‘Only Newco option is SPL’ utter rubbish

770

Scottish Premier League chief executive, Neil Doncaster, yesterday told the BBC that no provision existed for a liquidated SPL club to reconvene as a Newco FC at the bottom of the Scottish Football League (reported at 1821 on their crisis timeline).

This is being grossly misreported to suggest that the only opportunity for a Rangers Newco to phoenix is to slip straight back into the SPL – completely and utterly untrue.

There is also no provision for a Newco FC to slip into the SPL.  Newco FC would be able to apply for membership to the Scottish Football League (where they would unquestionably be accepted) or the Scottish Premier League.

The default position when a club goes out of business in the Scottish Premier League is that the club that finishes bottom of the league at the end of the season escapes relegation.  As things stand, Dunfermline would remain an SPL club and Ross County would be promoted.

No moral, legal or football administrative argument has been made to suggest that Dunfermline will be relegated to allow a new club entry into the league.  None whatsoever.  Dunfermline Athletic will remain a SPL club if Rangers are liquidated.

The various parties seeking to phoenix Rangers would get the lawyers onto securing a stadium, scouting some part-timers, buying a ticketing system, applying for entry into the Scottish Football League and finding cash to employ stadium stewarding. This could take weeks but is more likely to take months or even years.

Football needs to get used to this idea.

Neil Doncaster did not suggest a Newco FC applying for entry into the SPL had any primacy over an application to the SFL.  In fact, an application to the SFL would not have to overcome the unfortunate objections of Dunfermline Athletic  – who pay their BBC licence fee and are worthy of due respect.

Frascati a dessert wine? Never – it’s a dry white & even if there’s an “amabile” version, it’s nowhere near sweet enough. The best basic dessert wine is Moscatel de Valencia: to go up a grade, Beerenauslese (esp Austrian) with fruit, Italian vin santo or late-harvest semillon (best from Chile). Top-grade is Tokay Asztu, or port with chocolate dessert. Only my opinion, mind you.

The players were looking for assurances that they could be sold on the cheap at the end of the season if reports are to be believed.

Could it be that they’re aware that liquidation is an inevitably and they are in actual fact being quite insightful?

If a newco requires new players etc then if the current hun squad were permitted to be sold on the cheap, would that not put the newco in a stronger position to purchase the existing players of RFCIA?

  8. For all i like barcelona and don’t doubt they are a great team like spain, i do think their style suits the non contact modern game.

I think that is why portugese clubs do so well in europe as well – its all tippy tappy- soon as there is any contact then go down and most of the time the ref gives a foul.

For northern european teams there is an immediate disadvantage for what should be our main advantage: natural controlled aggression. Its always been like this but now it has reached absurd levels.

I really can see a day when the tackle will be outlawed altogether.

Is Messi as good as Pele or Maradona- how can anyone possibly tell when the game is so radically different? The former greats played at a time when they were closed down more and received apme robust even extreme trestment…what has Messi to face? Slight contact and its a freekick. It was hard enough against pele, jinky, best and maradona without being able to touch them like you get nowadays…

  9. Given that we’ve been assured that Celtic will vote against the newco, Yorkston at Dunfermline implying he can’t support its entry and Petrie at Hibs talking about the integrity of the competition, surely they’ll be on a sticky wicket with Dundee Utd, too.

Apart from the difficulty in getting their money, Stephen Thompson may have bitter memories of sitting with his terminally ill father watching their team being robbed by Kenny Clark of the Scottish Cup that should have been theirs. I don’t imagine he will be warming to the idea that the team that shafted them was put together against the rules and gets a shoo in to the SPL after going bust.

Also, are there any rules to stop any newco offering clubs incentives, e.g. in the form of compensation to Dunfermline, should they get into the SPL at the Pars’ expense? That one would need to be watched, in my opinion.

  12. wonkyradar, take your point but Messi has been booted stupid over the years.

My worthless opinion is that he surpassed Pele and Maradona some time ago, there has never been anyone like him.

Whatever happens I think a liquidated Rankers will lose their history.:))))

However while this along with removing trophies due to financial doping would be justice I don’t think it’s enough. A Newco should be made to start from the bottom. I’d rather the ceased to exist but realistically I cant see this being allowed to happen. While we are all enjoying their imminent demise, somewhere in the back of my mind is a nagging doubt. Suggeting what we are watching has all been orchestrated. My own limited take on this is Craigy White was probably a Murray stooge standing to make a few quid in return for taking all the flak. However somewhere along the line he got greedy & saw a way to cream off many millions. This has thrown an enormous spanner in the works & Murray or whoever it might be who have been waiting in the wings. Have been circling the wagons but it was too late the club was unsavable. What we are now watching is plan B, not desirable to lose the clubs tainted history but plenty of skulduggery none the less. St Mirren will be sacrificed & due too funny handshakes Hampden could be leased for a lot less than it was to us. Thus negating any hold Tickitus may have over the Pox. All far fetched maybe but while we are all celebrating I still have this bad smell in my nostrils.

Paul :-) Are you smelling similar?

The present Rangers has enough problems. Any Newco would have the same problems plus a helluva lot more.
