Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

While they are still waiting for a licence they really should be the Provisionals

Ian Black is their provisional signing

Alejandro Bedoya is their Provisional Winger

    and so on…….

Ally McCoist is still a full fat sleekit pie eater. Nothing provisional about him. Apart from his resignation letter…….

  13. An opportunity not to be missed

By: Newsroom Staff on 25 Jul, 2012 14:22

IN recent times, the back pages of the newspapers have been, in the main, running with stories off the pitch, but with the new season almost upon us, Paul Brennan of Celtic Quick News is determined that it´s time to get back to matters football.

The full interview is available to watch HERE

Brennan told the official Celtic website: “We´ve got to start talking football again. I want to talk about Celtic, about centre-halves and how we´re going to do in Europe.

“That´s why I started Celtic Quick News; to talk about these things. Hopefully we can get into the Champions League. That would be a boost to the whole club.”

And Paul is in doubt as to the significance of the hurdles as well as the potential excitement that lies ahead for the Celtic support, particularly in European competition.

“The first games are like summer cup finals,” he said. “This season, Celtic are seeded, but it´s going to be a big ask. On paper, these teams don´t look like much of a challenge but several are mid-season and better prepared in terms of match fitness. The challenge for Neil and the coaches is to get the fitness and sharpness back up to make sure we can reach the group stages for the first time in many years. The whole spectrum of our season then changes.”

Paul, of course, recognises the financial void that exists without our old rivals in the division, but is quick to point out that supporting Celtic isn´t just about the derby matches.

“We don´t actually buy season tickets for just two games a season,” he explained. “It´s an addiction to this whole Celtic thing, we can´t really get away from it. Perhaps the greatest moment in my Celtic-watching life wasn´t a game against Rangers – it was a game against St Johnstone in 1998 and we´ll see those kind of moments again. We´ll fill the stadium and we´ll win the league.”

The role of the Celtic support in the season ahead also looms large and Paul has first-hand experience of what they bring to the club and their importance.

“I know a guy in Germany who buys his season ticket but only ever came over for the Rangers games,” he said. “For a couple of seasons he gave me his book so that I could pass it around to other people who perhaps couldn´t afford to get to the games.

“Now he doesn´t have the option of the matches against Rangers but he was on to me the other week because he was having a problem buying his season book. He´s buying it because it´s what he does.

“He feels that it´s his way of contributing to the club and it´s the only thing he does that feels substantial to him. He wants to contribute his money to the club even though he won´t be getting over for the games.”

Paul concluded on a positive note, urging supporters to come out to the matches. He´s convinced that this season is an opportunity not to be missed.

“It´s going to be a party out there for every single home game,” he said. “There´s been a great atmosphere anyway recently, since the Green Brigade got things, but this is going to be a special season. We´re going to have some great memories and have a lot of fun out there.”

  26. Sign Hope Solo. She’s in Glasgow, and Zaluska’s injured. C’mon Neil, you know it makes sense.

And while we’re at it, sign Wambach. Big centre-forward, just scored with a header from a corner and has scored 138 international goals. Yup, 138. She’s also in Glasgow.
