I support Brendan giving our younger players a chance and few games

    Ajer & Edouard included

  2. Forget any of the spin and look at the facts.

Moussa last year was being touted for 30-40 mill, Real, PSG, Chelsea, Manure et all were supposedly in for him, never bothered him, he just got on with it.

Unfortunatly he had a few injuries, it affected his performances, his time on the pitch has been curtailed, so he has not hit the heights of last season, so now it’s the likes of Brighton who are in for him, that is supposed to be turning his head, jeezo, anyone who believes that deserves to be locked up ffs, that is spin at the highest level, that is hun crap, that is the sort of crap they believe.

The boy has a career plan and it involved, as we were told by Brendan that he would spend two years min at the club…..now ask yourself what has changed….

The happy club clappers will tell you it’s the player who wants a move….

The realists will tell you it’s the club who want to sell him

    Take your pick………

I know what my pick is

There are two McGregors and the one I like wasn’t playing tonight.

It was also obvious that KT brought Sinclair into the game a lot down the left but Mikel was unable to do the same for Forrest in the first half. Only when Griff came on in the second half did JF have someone to spark off.

Yeah he has a tendency to do that moving forward in particular, I think Brendan is rebuilding his career, perhaps he is adept at learning, who knows. Despite his age he has played little first team football ?

The one problem the club has is hamstring issues. Right back years and it’s unlikely the coaches and sports medical staff will be aware of this saga.

The training regimes must’ve changed eh ? If I had a wee punt I’d suggest they look at Lennoxtowns surfaces.

    Maybe we are just unlucky..,

Ajer uses his pace at the back, SS breaks quickly, comes to nothing

    NOTTHEBUS on 23RD JANUARY 2018 7:53 PM

Thats good covering from Ajer, but goodnessl what was the clearance!

    ————-

I quote the above because it seems at variance with later posters who believe Ajer is slow. Personally I’ve never seen him beat for pace (from the same starting position as the attacker)

Also Boyata is useless. Lustig is done. Our passing is poor, especially from the back and the keeper. McGregor and Edouard get it in the neck.

So we managed to win the game with 5 out of the starting eleven, Tierney, Brown, Ntcham, Sinclair and Forrest contributing.

I must have watched a different game. We could have scored 3 goals in the first 4 minutes. We were playing very well. And yet the commentator attributes the best chance of the first half to Thistle.

Unfortunately the commentary influences perspective. Oh, and the scoreline. At halt time we were 1 down yet easily the better team. 1-4 would have been a more accurate reflection.

Then Griff comes on for the second half and somehow is credited with changing the game. Not from what I saw. We played the same way, made the same amount of mistakes and missed more chances (Griff missed a one on one AND was clean through but somehow managed to get caught by the defender).

It wasn’t a game of two (contrasting) halved. It was two very similar halves. Just two different scorelines. The second being closer to the true superiority we had.

  6. Ah well crap game but win in the end, how the ‘entitled green huns’ on this site must be hurting, your actually worse than huns, the sense of entitlement is polluting this site, I don’t include those with relevant comments regarding the performance, of course criticise constructively but the droning on game after game from the usual suspects is pathetic, some of you really need to get a grip. While I’m on a rant I’ve noticed complaints about how the blog isn’t as good as the old day’s , do you know what and it probably hasn’t occurred to those complaining there’s an awful lot of non posters out there who can’t be arsed with the constant ‘People’s Friend’ Chuminess between certain posters and the constant superior condescending crap from others. Maybe want to consider that before I’m blackballed by the committee…

  7. SOAL

Dembele of last season was on a completely different level from any other striker at Celtic. Something has happened that now sees him as third choice pick.

Some things tonight were fantastic and some were equally awful.

I’ll take the 3 points gladly but we’re nowhere near the team that we all watched last season.

  8. just glad to get 3 points in the bag away from home midweek

might help me get over Pedro wining CL there last season

    Fieldofdrams,

not often someone agrees with me,

just need Qawser or Gillian to do the weather

    and my night is made.

That Judith wan would give me nightmares

    Whit!!!!!…..where’s the Mods…

  10. 23 games. 50 goals scored. 16 conceded (4 in one game).

Defending doesn’t seem to be an issue. Yet all our defenders and goalkeeper are criticised every game. Except one. Thank goodness we have Kieran Tierney holding the fort single handedly.

  11. WITS

You may be assured to know that I still clap (sometimes happily, always vociferously) when at the game and never get on any players’ back (ooo err, etc)

    ;-)

  12. By the way some of the arseholes around me tonight really need to learn a thing or two about ‘support’ and objectivity and just about football in general.

  13. Might be in minority here, i thought Eddie done well tonight, showed for a pass, good movement, head up, works hard, not sure about the agreed fee, but i can see another year loan possibly? Only 20, give the bhoy a chance.

I know…..and what you posted earlier was fair comment…..though maybe married life is turning you into a grumpy old man..

What with all that washing and ironing you have to do now)))

  15. CultsBhoy- Last of the famous international PlayBhoys on

    Reminder…

    We won tonight.

Anyhow…Griff proves his worth again. He’s 1st choice ahead of Dembele. I like Dembele and I believe he has all the attributes that will see him go far. But he is still potential. Griff is reality.

Eduards…not for me at the price quoted to secure him. I can’t see him kicking on to a level where we”d be able to cash in.

Loving BR taking risks and feeding in younger player like Ajer.

Simonovic and Boyata are toast if Komper turns out even half decent.

Give me a centre half, a right back and a forward. If not a forward let’s bleed in some of the young guys like MJ.

  16. HT- Hoopy Birthday, yes you get guys who are newbies and moan if it’s not 4-0 at half time….

  17. !!BADA BING!! on 23RD JANUARY 2018 11:49 PM

Agree re. Edouard. More of a link up player than a penalty box poacher. If you watched BR’s Swansea teams the goal threat came from wide and he used the centre forward to link up the attacks and hold the ball up, creating space for, others. Probably sees that in Edouard.

  18. GB64- i’m stuck for words……hope the weatherbabe gets better soon, ……unless Christopher Blanchette makes your rain storms better….;)

  19. G67 – link up play for a striker usually happens when strikers get older…..i think he has something….hope so

“I don’t think that aspiring to better than a scrappy scrappy doo 1-0 win over a struggling league rival with a tiny % of our skill set and budget should be seen as being spoilt, complacent or having an undue sense of entitlement.

Rather I’d see it as a fair and reasonable expectation, a SMART objective as it were. ”

    It depends, does it not.

When you identify a SMART target for a Celtic vs Thistle game at Firhill, your expectation of the score, if it is truly SMART, should be based on the usual score and performance in these fixtures.

BSR gies you that stat above which suggests that the average game produces a 2:0 or a 3:1 win on average. So, 2:1 is very far from being a statistical anomaly or an underachievement. I would also throw in that the 33 to 6 total that gives us the 2:0 or 3:1 average is distorted by 2 anomalous scores -(5:0 in May 17 and 5:1 in March 14).

Our last few scores at Firhill read:- 1:2 (tonight), 0-1, 0-5, 1-2, 0-2, 0-3, 1-5, 1-2, 1-4, 0-2, 1-2, and 0-2. I have looked at the next dozen or so results prior to that and 0:1s and 1:2s abound so I don;’t think expectations above 0:1 or similar are all that SMART.

If we look beyond the scoreline to the quality of the play, expecting more than a scrappy game, we are in to the realms of subjective judgement. Few spectators or viewers who are Celtic fans, would describe tonight as anything less than turgid, livened by a few quality moments. Now, was that an anomalous performance or a departure from a SMART expectation re quality?

Who knows? All we record of previous matches is hte scoreline so unless there is a database somewhere that records whether a majority of Celtic fans rated a 0:1 win as an A+, B-, C+ or XXX, we have no way of knowing. I have seen exciting accomplished 0:0 games and boring wins by 3 or more (such as the Brechin game last weekend).

It remains reasonable to want improved performances. It is certainly reasonable to expect a (slightly but not greatly) improved scoreline but we cannot expect a multi-goal win in every match just because we are richer than most by a significant factor. In the long run, we win much more than we lose but, every match is a possible 3 pointer, a possible 1 pointer or a 0 pointer and that will remain the case. We can lose to minnows and beat giants.

How much more superior to Thistle should we be?

    tonight we had 66% possession

    28 shots to their 7

10 on target to their 3

and 7 corners to their 3.

That’s pretty superior but it stil only produced a 2: 1 win.

We also got a famous win by 2:1 against Barca with 5 shots (3 on target) to their 25 (8 on target) and 16% possession. Superior play does not always produce wins.

I am happy to win a Glasgow Derby away from home. The memory of the turgid performance will fade if we produce a few better performances and results in the next month or two.

However, if it becomes a regular thing, we could be in for a rocky ride. An 11 point lead at the end of January suggests we are worrying unnecessarily about the league.

But, I still expect Zenit to be a massive bridge too far for this team of ours, even if we land some bling inn the remainder of this window.
