  1. My biggest gripe for today was that I had Griff first goalscorer and 4-1. But we took our foot off the gas when we got to 3-1. Grrr…

  2. When Celtic play a high tempo, passing with purpose style of play we look a very good side.

When Celtic play a low tempo, passing the ball along the back four, going nowhere fast style of play we look a very ordinary, vulnerable team.

  3. BR’s post-match comments were to the point.

Not a great performance but a pleasing result.

We now move on to Suduva who will be a lot more streetwise than the side we faced in 2002.

Good to see James Forrest earn a one week reprieve from the scapegoat pen. He does not have to play badly to end up back in there, though.

Ajer and Hendry both made mistakes in the goal conceded as did both defensive mids.

Didn’t see the game, but was in and out listening to It on the radio. Missed Thistle’s goal, which came from nowhere, but Hendry getting panned. Again. Was delighted with the response. Showed me the mental strength is there, no panic.

The girls that supply the flowers to Celtic (Floresters on Duke Street) saying they were in this week. Staff were saying the feud thing totally overblown and not to read the tabloids as well off the mark. Hope so.

Hendry getting pelters again? I don’t get it. He played really well today

    your at the wind up

  6. Taking nothing for granted against Suduva if we play Ajer and Hendry. I’ll be amazed and angry should we see out this transfer window without signing a Central Defender.

  7. Today showed why we need new blood. When someone fresh is brought in all of a sudden players realise they need to up their own game to keep their name on the teamsheet. Gamboa has not had much opportunity at the club even though he was BRs 1st signing. Today he took his opportunity, he knows Lustig has been off form. I can see him getting a start on Thursday too.

Hendry looks v shaky at the back. The Boyata situation has caused us a big problem, we need someone quick, even if its for 1 season. An experienced CH is a must. No more ‘prospects’

  8. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Through to the next round we were never really in any danger. Jack Hendry needs to play the simple ball and that will help to cut out errors Gamboa looked good going forward but I would prefer to see Lustig in the side on Thursday for me he is the better defender also Izzy looked good so should allow Tierney not to be over played. On now to the Europa League play off a huge match for our season so Good luck to Brendan and the Bhoys. H.H.

  9. Well done Celtic, into the hat for the next round, just heard BR say he was not happy due to the team being passive, not what his team should be like, whatever it is he recognises the end result is not good enough.

Johnston I thought showed good pace was direct but then greedy when through on goal, did fine hope he learns to look for a team mate to stick the ball away when he can’t, goals were shared about which is fine, Moussa showed great power and pace when he came on, SS showed in bits that his game is returning, Gamboa good is rapid, Henry should keep it simple always he fell over a ball when he had an age to use it also did not block the shot for their goal both CH’s were poor at that, Izzy was solid and found his man quickly with forward passes.

A hospital leg breaking tackle on SB that is a red card everywhere but not when it is a Celtic player, hope BR takes these tackles further, better doing it when we win, maybe Thomson will get demoted for that, blatant non application of the laws of football, and no excuse other than it was Celtic on the receiving end.

Hotsmoked and GG are cleverest posters on here.

i’m not just saying that because HT stole ma burd aged 13hauf.

  11. Mikel Lustig will not turn 32 until December.

It is an open secret that the club were looking to land a RB to replace him but that RB was also to replace Gamboa who might fetch a fee after his WC showing.

Gamboa played well again today but I would be willing to guess that Mikel will play more games than Cristian in 2018/19. A new RB might play more than both.

  12. a simple observation a pass forward from his starting position from JH would be a start , why does he on insist taking the ball forward for 10 yards or so then make a sideways pass to normally SB then forget that he is a centre back and not return to his position at centre back.

  13. It will be interesting too see if Gamboa gets a decent run of games now. He played well recently but back came Lustig. I hate saying anything against Mikael, I love the guy but he is in the same boat as Boyata, in terms of even when off form Brendan has a soft spot for them and they get the start. Don’t get me wrong Brendan is not beyond dropping players but sometimes I wonder.

Brilliant to see Izzy back, he played like he had never been away. Remember two seasons ago he covered well for KT? Absolutely no reason this season to run KT into the ground.

The CHs as usual we are weak. Ajer will come good. Hendry I doubt it. He reminds of GMS, a good player but can’t make the step up.

  14. RON67

The striding forward then hesitation before passing sideways or back is an annoying habit all our centre backs have.

Especially as they often have space to attack in front of them.

Is it a coaching directive or caution due to the lack of movement ahead of them?

Are florists the new taxi drivers? :))

  16. We started well and took a deserved lead, then just stopped playing. We were very one paced after the goal, particularly in the second half and seemed a bit disinterested and lacked focus. Thought Ntcham was particularly poor in the second half and lucky to last as long as he did. They were man marking him throughout but he needed to do better with the ball possession that he had, he carelessly gave the ball away on numerous occasions.

For their goal, Ntcham has to do a lot better, he is a good ball player but does not sense danger, he cannot allow their player to run off him. From there on the centre halves make a dogs dinner of it, Ajer has to take everything when he steps out, man and ball and Hendry just defends very weakly.

We responded well with two good goals. Excellent play from Gamboa on both occasions, however we cannot ignore the fact that he also defended weakly at times throughout. He is at this time a better option than Lustig but not a long term solution. Dembele is different class and it showed, i maintain that he and Edouard will take the team to a different level. Overall job done but still lots to ponder.

    MotM – Izaguirre

  17. Need an experienced CH to help the boys (Compere ?is he still alive) maybe move J Henry to right back would help him. Mid field did not help defence when thistle scored.

P.S. flares were thrown by Plymouth Argyle fans. ” honest guv’nor”

  18. cathedral view on

Hendry tends to get caught in possession when he doesn’t have a short pass to midfield on. He looks like he’s playing to instruction not to hoof it upfield.

  19. Saw the game and saw a team lacking in urgency and a sense of purpose. What’s wrong with getting players so fired up before the game starts that they blow mediocre opposition away? 2-3 goals in first 45 mins then rest players ahead of midweek games. We seem to do the opposite.

With the players we have, Thistle should have been gasping for mercy after 20-30 minutes. No Mas.

That it only happens for 5-10 minutes when we found ourselves at 1-1 is not good enough.

I feel for big Jack but he really does look ill at ease and should be moved on or loaned out. He should not be learning his trade in the middle of our defence.

  20. Any weaknesses Gamboa has in his defensive play should be coached out of him. One big problem though, we do not have a decent defensive coach at a senior level, that has been obvious for several years. We can’t even deal with set pieces. John Kennedy should be found a new job maybe as a kit man. Kolo Toure, sorry, but shown the door.

  21. Tonight on BBC2 8pm there is repeat showing of the Clydebank Blitz in Bombs that Changed Britain, I have seen it is is worth watching.

  22. Another point, if we had decent centre backs the weakness of our full back’s defence would not be quite so crucial. Think back to Virgil & Jason.

  23. We started well and lost our way after scoring the goal. Izzy was brilliant, never looked like he’d been away. Gamboa needs more game time. I would play him at RB v Suduva with Mik in central defence at the expense of Hendry (though that won’t happen). Broonie looking out of sorts, needs a rest. I think we will only play with one up front v Suduva and that will be Moussa.

IMHO – sort out that central defence and we really won’t have much to worry about this season as long as we keep the strikers fit!

  24. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Hi all. Not bad today. Enjoyed that.

Izzy looked good and will fit back in well.

Gamboa terrific going forward but, as with most converted wingers, is rubbish in the tackle.

Griff getting sharper, Moussa looked good.

Earlier in the week I thought we needed 4 players to freshen the squad. Probably an emotional reaction after AEK result.

If we can a decent CB and a half decent midfielder ( What Brendan asked for after all) get Lewis Morgan ( remember him?) absorbed into the squad and keep most of the guys fit, we’ll be fine.

Important to stick together. There is a very real organised campaign to undermine Celtic at every opportunity.

We need to rise above it. These are good times.

    Hail hail

  25. SUPERSUTTON on 18TH AUGUST 2018 2:48 PM

Criticise Ntcham, Brown and Ajer. Any of them could have prevented the opportunity long before it became Hendry’s mistake.

    ————————————————————————————

Good to know someone else was watching the same game as me ?

  26. Hendry is very poor he wants 10 minutes to make a decision, he combines that with the making of wrong decisions when he eventually gets there. He is weak as f@?k and should be nowhere near the first team.

The goal they scored was so poor, hendry actually tried to avoid tackling the striker in the 6 yard box when it was on. Get him to f@ck.

  27. Yes, DM’s will make mistakes but CBs are your last line of defence. (Not counting the goalie).

  28. It’s rarely just one player’s fault. But there is a pattern at Celtic. In that it involves the same players so frequently. About 4 out of a squad of 20+

  29. BACKTOBASICS… @3:34pm

Campaign to undermine Celtic has always been there, but even more so this season with the appointment of Gerrard at Ibrox in a desperate throw of dice to get SEVCO out of the last chance saloon. I am sure some posters on here are level 5 infiltrators a well.

Don’t know what you see in Jack Hendry.

I am sorry to say that I think he is shite at fitba. Ian McWilliams was a better CH than JH.

  31. Just back from game. Felt we thought the game was won once we went 1 up. Criticism of Hendry is way over the top. Felt the boy actually played very well
