Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

I know your right but I would love it in a GIRFUY kind of a way

  2. Awkward business taken care of today.

Due to the gulf in class, performances were difficult to judge.

Everyone did what was expected, although I’m probably a minority of one, but I thought that Ki controlled the game from start to finish.

No one switches the play as effectively as he does.

I watched the report on RTE News just now and couldn’t believe hearing the home support booing NL as he made his way to the bench.

  3. Warnock sacked presumably as a result of dreadful league form of late

he was given a substantial transfer kitty in the summer

    brave decision ….

  4. Going by today would we want our young footballers exposed to thuggery ?

Newco huns though would be in their element.

Fouls committed: Peterhead 17 Celtic 4

Well you’d expect the lower league team to commit more fouls.

    No, wait a minute.

Fouls committed: Arbroath 9 Rangers 14

    Something is not right.

was it not only 3 or 4 weeks ago that they only comitted 1 foul against premier league opposition hmmmm?

So would I, it’s sad that they done away with the reserve league, nothing after the under 19’s, consigns loads of kids to the scrap heap who could go on to make it.

That’s scotland for you, care not for the footballers, I think the performance of the ref today proved that.

I can’t remember why they scrapped the league but something in the back of my mind tells me the hun had something to do with it, I stand to be corrected on that.

Are you sure it was Zaluska that made the save in 40 seconds?

I was watching the game on Sky and according to dobby provan big Fraser was in goal.

…… and according to him the match was being played at night.

I also think Crocker’s photographic memory of every team that has beaten Celtic is a wonder to behold.

    Hunnish in my opinion.

    ‘Neil not a happy guy’

    Read the article.

    Neil’s perfectly happy guy.

“I wasn’t happy with the challenge on Ledley but the referee deemed that to be accidental. There were a few meaty challenges going around but you expect that when you come away from home in the cup.

Yes and this was a quote when El Diouf joined the huns:

Warnock said: “Oh my God! Is he really signing for Rangers? I can’t believe that.

“Well I can’t see me and Stuart McCall ever taking over at Rangers when Walter leaves in the near future if he’s gone there.

Opinions, if we all saw the game the same, Paddy was played in a role that I have not seen him in before, and he didn’t put a foot wrong imo, he was involved in all the goals, he never shirked a tackle and won nearly every one he made.

His passing was superb also, the one for the first goal into the wind was world class, though that doesn’t surprise me Paddy is world class, as is Sammi…..

Opinions and ass holes, we all have one :>)

The skinty huns made it clear they wanted no part in a reserve league and if folded shortly after.

  17. OfficialNeil Neil Lennon

Really pleased with the team today. Delighted to have gone through. Shocked that Neil Warnock has been sacked. Ridiculous decision

  18. I’m very happy with today’s result. A potential banana skin which we negotiated well and hopefully without any serious injury. The referee should be taken to task over his failure to protect our players from what was a series of vicious assaults from a number of Peterhead players.

I think it’s great that the Scottish Cup includes teams from all divisions and even from the Junior Leagues. It gives these teams something to look forward to out of the ordinary if they get a plumb draw against some of the bigger SPL teams and a chance to create a bit of memorable history for their supporters if they manage to pull off an upset against them. A number of lower division teams have managed to do that against Celtic in the past two decades and good luck to them.

What I draw the line at, however, is when certain players from teams like Peterhead start a game against Celtic after being whipped into a frenzy by their manager who thinks it’s alright to ‘put their foot in’ which is football speak for ‘try and cause as much damage as possible’. I lost count of the number of times in the first half when Peterhead’s approach was to shove the Celtic player in possession followed by a swipe at their leg or ankle. Their big cntre forward should have been sent off for committing an atrocity in each half. Jim McInally should be ashamed of himself. Peterhead’s players should appreciate that Celtic are there to be beaten but no Celtic player was there today to have his career finished prematurely by their thuggish display.

  19. Further proof of Warnock’s relationship with and the influence of hun Stuart McCall:

QPR boss Neil Warnock insists he’s got other irons in the fire despite being linked with Glasgow Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic.

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall, who Warnock knows from his time at Sheffield United, contacted his pal about the frontman, who is also wanted by Everton and Sunderland.
