Playing against Celtic, Fit and Proper moment ahead, crystal balls

1108

The second half last night will be remember for the fact that right back Mikael Lustig came within the width of the crossbar of scoring a hat-trick, while left back Emilio Izaguirre also hit the crossbar – and was caught offside in the centre forward position.  The movement and energy levels required for this type of performance cannot be overestimated.

Adam Matthews’ goal on Saturday, when he burst a lung to cover half the field and get on the end of a move as it developed on the opposite wing, is another example of how physically taxing playing for Celtic is right now.  And just as importantly, how taxing it is to play against them.

Motherwell competed as best they could before hitting the wall and capitulating.

Kano

I knew the minutes’ applause for Kano was coming last night, but it was a hard moment nonetheless. Sannabhoy read a letter at halftime from Martin’s wife, Carolyn, explaining the family’s appreciation for what the Celtic family did for them.

It’s appropriate for us to return our respect to Kano’s family, and to Sannabhoy and his Kano Foundation colleagues. They got the charity work ball rolling for so many of us. They gave us the opportunity to aspire to become better people.

There’s a link at the bottom of the article to sign-up for CQN11, where the work to build another school kitchen in Malawi goes on. You are part of an incredible community. Be there.

Just a brief note on Honest Dave King’s recent claims.  He will become a director of newco Rangers in the event the forthcoming EGM votes him so.  I’ve no doubt he will be able to find a NomAd to work with him, not all have the same standards, allowing the company to retain its listed status with him as a director.

It is also true that the SFA cannot stop him becoming a director.  They do not have a Fit and Proper test, they have fit and proper criteria, which directorial appointments are measured against after they are appointed.

Despite all we’ve seen in come out of Hampden over the last few years, I would be amazed if the SFA board approved a tax convict and former director of a club which broke tax law, player registration rules and went into liquidation.  It’s not even a remotely tenable suggestion.

After the event, the SFA would be in a position to penalise newco Rangers – most probably through a fine – and instruct them to dismiss King.  King, of course, has all the humility and self-awareness required to apologise and resign without a fuss.  There’s no way he would use his well-marshalled media campaign to try what Craig Whyte and Charles Green did before him – play to the gallery, blame all his ills on an ‘anti-Rangers’ conspiracy.

Note how the media campaign is rolling out King comment and press releases as definitive news, not subjective claims.  Note also that Easdale press releases are being covered by the media, but that pantomime-hate figure, Jack Irvine, is being attributed as the source.

Note that Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias are saying nothing.  They’re just going about their business.  You don’t need crystal balls to see how this one is going to end.

CQN11 St Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance is on Friday 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park. The focus of an excellent night’s entertainment will be funding the construction of a kitchen at Chibwata Primary School in Malawi, for Mary’s Meals.

Although bean counting is not the only factor one of the calculations I would be doing if at Celtic is

How much will our gates increase by if/when there is an unreconstructed TRFC in the top tier.

    V

How much will our gates drop if we stay silent as a club on one of the reasons for that drop which is ( as an unknown number of supporters see it) allowing an unreconstructed TRFC under an unreconstructed SFA, who actively pursued in the regeneration of TRFC, to become our opposition?

An indication of that unknown number will come out in the demand for tickets to the LC game.

I think it important that those who do not want a return to the bad old days and feel strongly enough about it let Celtic know their reasons. I just hope the numbers are high enough to give the bean counters pause to think.

Games v RFC for me have for years been of “there is not a barge pole long enough ” variety for a simple reason.

They bring out the worst in me. Especially when I think I’m being cheated, so how much worse when I know I am.

Just as a developing player will produce inconsistant performances, so too will a developing team.

The best thing we as a support can do is to allow this team the time and space to develop.

I don’t want to return to the stuffy, turgid style of the last few incumbents, even though they got results.

The prevailing view of the blog was that Tommy Burns’ team was an enjoyable experience to, watch, even though they won nothing, except a dire 1995 Scottish Cup.

Hopefully, with time, last night’s performance will become the norm and we can all rejoice in Celtic Style football.

Thanks for that.. where does he play ? U any opinion on him.

Perth csc- yeah rosies is the hq.. big irish pub in the main nightlife area. Not a great pub in my opinion but good atmosphere for games and some solid celts.

Its only 15mins from my house but the kick off times rarely suit plus i already pay for celtic tv and setanta so rarely fancy spending the 80-$100 to go in there for the games.

Why do you and your like-minded want to punish Celtic because of the shit that the Ibrox mob are in?

Our minority amounts to 17% in Scotland – The Rangers have a constituency three times that size.

Conclusion there will always be some kind of ‘Rangers’ – like it or not.

Celtic has access to some of the cleverest men in the UK – why are they not advising Celtic to give a running commentary?

It would be counter-productive and only appease the blinkered in our support.

Why can’t you and yours see this?

I haven ‘t been to a Glasgow Derby since a minging day in May 2009 . A dreadful game of football. They won . . I hated the experience . I vowed it would be my last .Truly can’t be assed with people bellowing about King Billy and The Pope.

I have been at lots of Glasgow Derbies . Never felt scared .I did feel scared at a Napoli v Rube game. I was even more scared at a Roma v Lazio game .Violence at a Catania v Palermo game made me think -I am never doing this again . I went to a derby game in Istanbul – jaw dropping atmosphere / intensity.

    Two words.

    Self respect.

If you read what I said you might notice the use of the word unreconstructed in terms of TRFC and the SFA.

The same guy who set RFC on the ebt trail is the President of the SFA.

It’s not about punishing Celtic it’s about not allowing them or anyone for that matter play on my loyalties to the extent I stop having to respect my values.

That is how football gets away with the abuse of supporters, it prays on their unthinking loyalty.

As long as enough are happy for that to continue it will.

If enough feel their loyalty is being leaned on too much and do turn away, that is not punishing Celtic, that is a consequence of their taking a punt on the numbers.

Re the article, Good observation about our full backs’ energy levels. There’s plenty ex-players, pundits and hacks out there that don’t get that fitness and footballing talent are not mutually exclusive, and it’s a good idea to build a team that has both. Last night’s performance is a prime example. This is what Ronnie’s trying to achieve and I think if he’s afforded the time, it will pay off for us.

Also well done to the club and support last night for the fitting Kano tribute. My kids were Kano Foundation guests a couple of years back and can now be found taking up their own seats in the North Stand. The Kano Foundation are a great testament to their patron, the club, and the Celtic movement.

All round good performance against an unimaginative Motherwell team. The team pressed the ball in the 37% (yeah right) of the game they didn’t have possession. Kris Commons had a poor game last night, but despite his obvious talents, he doesn’t press the ball well.

Izzy was MotM last night by a long way last night No idea how Biton got it. He didn’t play badly but seemed to spend most of the night tying his laces. Needs to invest in some velcro I think.
