Radical change needed to UK football

756

It’s kicking off in all directions today but keep an eye on the English Football Association proposals to introduce a series of changes to lower league football.  One option on the table is for Premier and Championship sides’ “B teams” to compete in a new structure with League Two and Conference teams.

The FA are eyeing an opportunity to allow the best young English talent, often cosseted in the youth squads of top Premier League teams with little chance of first team action, to be exposed to competitive games.  The proposal includes a geographical split of northern and southern teams.

While the FA Premier League is bust by any known measure, the Football League is in an even worse financial state.  Average income in the lower leagues is remarkably high but the steep pyramid-model, which has clubs chasing huge increases in revenue in the Premier League, leads to excessive over-spend.

With these proposed changes on the table the Scottish FA could do worse than discuss their own game’s future with their English counterparts.  Well run Scottish clubs are hamstrung by their better-funded neighbours cherry-picking their best players for a relative pittance.  Scottish Premiership clubs regularly cannot compete financially for players in England’s fourth tier.

It’s surely time to federate the top Scottish league with the English league structure.

Information slipping out of Switzerland this morning that Manchester City and Paris St Germain are each facing a fine of circa £50m for breaching Financial Fair Play rules is encouraging – if Uefa are able to deliver on the deal.

When you consider financially punishing an entity which owns the oil wealth of a sovereign nation the figure needs to be a big one.  £50m just about hits the mark.

Apparently the Great Sevco Shakedown began this morning when the club’s first every goal scorer, Andy Little, was released.  The news is harsh on the player but the club needs to learn the lesson – income needs to match expenditure.

Imran Ahmed’s court hearing today against Rangers International comes exactly three years after liquidation expert, Craig Whyte, was triumphantly welcomed into Ibrox, an ominous anniversary, for some.

Why were ALL the assets allowed to be sold to a company fronted by Charles Green by the Administrator when that is the job of a Liquidator?

Did Duff and Phelps overstep their remit?

What do BDO have to say?

    ——–

Not sure what happened there. I think HMRC trusted Duff & Phelps to act properly. Hector was happy for the ground and training complex to be used by a new club. But it is obvious shady deals were struck behind Hectors back.

    Do Not Trust the Trust

Today I made a tweet, limited as it was to 140 characters, regarding my anti-Union of Fans stance relating to Andy Little’s departure from Ibrox.

It was not the best tweet I have ever made, and went something like this:

“Andy Little has had enough. He’s leaving. That’s what CG/DK/UoF want. To tear this club apart. Please don’t support them”

I tweeted this before the news broke that the club had not offered him a new deal, but it was not an unreasonable assumption that one of the players on the fringes of the first team, irritated by his lack of game time had decided to call it a day and move on to where he would get first team football. There was also the possibility of the off-field chaos contributing to his decision, whereby he had simply tolerated enough of the instability and decided to move on.

    Both stances entirely understandable.

Having made this tweet, Union of Fans’ supporters pounced on it and I was called a ‘flaky’, a ‘moron’, ‘not quite right’, ‘odd’ and every other derogatory name under the sun. Indeed, the mockery extended to attributing the following bizarre statement to me:

“Chris Graham asked Andy Little to leave”

Before I continue in haste, I would like to point out I am offended by none of this, because when those whose beliefs you oppose resort to slandering and insulting you, generally it highlights their lack of argument in rebuttal.

I do not even mind being lied about, because I can clarify those lies here. And consequently that is what I will do.

Of course Chris Graham did not ask Andy Little to leave, nor do I have any clear evidence he or the rest of those who support the Trust scheme wish to tear Rangers apart. But if they succeed in their Trust scheme (actually just a limited company with a bank account in truth) that is exactly what will happen. Rangers will suffer the ignominy of admin 2, 25 points will be docked from the club back in League 2 and once again we will lose the majority of the playing staff.

It may just be too much for some supporters to take. If UoF succeed, they will tear this club apart, ripping its soul out irreparably, a soul which is already fighting for survival such is the warring and infighting between those who support their scheme and those who do not.

So by force of logic, if you support the UoF’s plans, plans which will inevitably destroy the club should they prevail, you are supporting the dismantling of Rangers. You might not be intending that, indeed, I would hazard a guess that 100% of those supporting the scheme want Rangers alive and thriving. But, alas, this scheme is designed by one man to have the opposite effect, and that is a Mr Dave King.

How exactly can withholding hundreds of thousands, millions of pounds in any way help Rangers? Why exactly do some Rangers fans trust a man with their money when he ripped off the South African tax man to the tune of 2.1B RSA?

The Trust fund is nothing more than a political tool to damage the club, and in particular, the board. King, having previously supported Wallace as part of the Requisitioners, now deeply loathes the man given he will not just kowtow to his threats and demands and give him power.

The statement released by the club makes it clear that Rangers FC will not give “Ibrox 1872” security over any of the club’s assets. In one statement, King’s company lost all its bargaining chips because supporters who subscribe to it now stand to lose their seats if they do not renew.

The Trust is a smokescreen, a political bargaining chip which became a joker. And its supporters, like those who abused me, have been wonderfully programmed to do its bidding.

Before you describe me as barmy, think about it. UoF fans are being spearheaded by Richard Gough (as well as King and Graham). Gough condemned the fan-endorsed ban at Tannadice, he backs the UoF scheme yet he also said this in 2012:

“The club I gave blood, sweat and tears for is dead. Whose fault is it? I don’t care.”

Gough is a legend for his playing achievements at Ibrox, but any supporter who backs a man describing his or her club as dead really needs to re-evaluate their motives.

Rangers are not dead. But we are in A&E far too much now.

Another win against us and he would have been in the running for manager of the year.

    Kenny Shiels leaves Greenock Morton

    Club statement:

“We would confirm that, following the result against Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park on Saturday, manager Kenny Shiels has tendered his resignation. This has been accepted with regret by the board of firectors.

“Shiels said: ‘I’m extremely disappointed that things didn’t work out at Greenock Morton and would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone associated with the club all the very best for the future.’

Chairman Douglas Rae said: ‘I can confirm that the board have accepted Kenny’s resignation, and we wish him every success for the future.'”

I don’t really care if the judge in the Imran Ahmad process is somehow getting extra from the goat down the ludge. It sounds ludicrous but it is not beyond reasonable doubt.

However, if the single motivation of every law lord in Scotland is to crush those terrible micks then today wasn’t much of a victory for those would be wigged schemers.

Regardless of today’s outcome Rangers do not have enough income from known resources to complete next season. They have two choices, raise more or cut.

Cutting means the chances of reaching the promised land and re enacting the quarterly sectarian panto look a tad slim. Ok the rules were changed to allow the second placed team in Scotland’s 2nd tier a play off but we now have the possibility of Rangers, Hearts, Dunfermline, Hamilton, maybe Kilmarnock or Hibs joining them. This is what Ally canine Swally. Another year in the doldrums.

So when the season ticket money runs out and the likes of Andy Little is away Rangers have two options. Press the big red button and sell the assets or pump more cash in. This cash, as per the 120 day review will come from existing shareholders. £8m is promised. That would pay the wages until they reach he next season ticket income time. To do that they need to sell enough season tickets.

The bears killed the gers again oops.

King wants them for nowt. He wants them ASAP so that he can pump money in to guarantee the league next year.

King will not be allowed any share in Rangers from their current owners.

Your task Rangers supporters, should you choose to accept it is to push one of two buttons. Neither guarantees that the cadaver will be carried any further.

Of course they could just go away and start their own sustainable club but they wouldn’t like that either as they would soon realise what sustainable meant.
