Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

  1. When assessing whether or not you permit someone to be a member of your association, you should be looking for members who ‘tick all the boxes’ rather than those who have excuses for not satisfying requirements.

It is abundantly obvious when an applicant is grasping at technical, legalistic reasons for getting around the rules, that the applicant is exceedingly dodgy and should not be invited to join the association.

Further to this, when the applicant is essentially the same applicant which has a track record of flaunting every rule it sees as standing in its way, has followers who have a track record of issuing death threats, it would be reasonable to assume that admitting this applicant to join your association is going to lead to continual headaches for your association in the future.

When considering how to vote on item (j) the chairmen of the SFL should perhaps assess whether they believe that the executive of the SFL and the SFA have served them well.

These are the same people who have allowed this fiasco to flourish to the degree where you are not placed in this most undesirable position.

You now have the chance to tell these people, NO, you are not administering the game to our satisfaction and we prefer that you step aside so that a more competent, less compromised body of men take your place.

Say NO to item (i), take back the power to run the game and rid yourself of these corrupted officials.

Any club which votes YES, you’d best get used to empty grounds because the fans are going to disown you and disown the game if these corrupt procedures are allowed to succeed.

The water will still be warm enough well into October, and the way things are forecast into Nov as well, treat yersel to a dip.

“For me the prize is now the dismantling of the SFA and installing an accountable organisation in its place.

The season after next if a weakened Rangersaswas make it back to the SPL I would enjoy beating them regularly on a level playing field.”

You are a more optimistic Tim than me. What evidence is there, from the actions of Doncaster & Regan, and the latter was supposed to be our new clean white hat, that pro-Rangers influence still looms large in their thinking. You must be somewhat disappointed in Stuart Regan’s willingness to lie to SFL chairmen and to lie so unconvincingly. What guarantee do we have that we will get our next clean up operation any more right? Is it not more likely that the other club chairmen will come after us having got a taste for humbling Rangers?

And as for enjoying beating Sevco next year, I may be too conflicted to enjoy it as much as I used to. Why are they even in the same division after what they did? Are we doormats or masochists that we want abusers back so quickly? Don’t we need to free ourselves from our dependency on Sevco, even if it is a dependency that thrives on beating them?

And for how long will beating them be an easy ride? TV and Sponsors told us to jump and have them back in our league and we will have sold principles to comply. The same TV and sponsors will not thole an uncompetitive Sevco for long. Either they will get the refs to re-dress the balance/advantage again or they will introduce a Championship play off format whereby winning the league, even by 50 points, does not guarantee the title as Sevco deserve a knockout play off chance.

I am still feeling a little grubby at the blatant disregard for rules with which we are being urged to go along

  5. Some of the debates have been a bit heated in recent weeks but was only to be expected.

The majority of us being left-wing extremists – a sentiment some spokesperson for Strathclydes finest shared with a sunday rag while victimising the GB – we are likely, like most left wing thinkers, to have numerous disagreements on the best approach to progression.

This inter-strife amongst socialists was the reason given to by me a prominent Swedish communist friend for supporting communism (hallå if you’re lurking), as otherwise the united right, in their pursuit of self interest, will always win through.

For the benefit of the UK security services, I disagreed though. We can embrace healthy debate and agree to differ, and use intelligent debate to win through ourselves. (I just need to master the intelligent bit).

“I really hope to God that nobody on this fine Celtic blog is accusing Neil Lennon of being a man without integrity or principles, following his recent statement on the official Celtic website.

You know, the same Neil Lennon who could have walked away from the club when his life was threatened with bombs & bullets. The same Neil Lennon who was physically attacked at Tynecastle and his family moved to a safe house in the middle of the night on a number of occasions.

Nobody would dare question this man’s integrity or principles on here, would they?”

I would see two players and no more move in each transfer window, with two coming in (or ‘up’) to replace them.

Continuity and all that – nae sense in having to rebuild a whole team every year or two.

I certainly see Wanyama, Ki, Kayal and Izzy being for the off in the next year or so with a very reasonable return for their and our efforts: 2 league titles, a CL last 16??, a cup or two and the not inconsiderable sum of cash from the sales, £30m or so.

Then it would be Hooper, Ledley, Forster a year or two later for similar or more, hopefully consolidating CL last 16, or pushing into qtr-finals would see values rocket.

This could put us firmly into the ‘Porto’ model, which we seem to be aspiring towards, and have certainly being working towards since Neil took over.

    Which would make me happy.

Critically these are the folk who spend serious money at Ibrox. My pal had 4 corporate seats, he personally sponsored a first team player. He now sees association with them as discrediting his business. He’s sponsoring community level football and thinking about Man Utd seats…

That is what will keep them mediocre whatever league they start of in.. They have lost financial muscle.

Ibrox with only rabid UDA supporters will not attract the more sophisticated clientelle with disposable income. In fact even the extremist Huns will tire of it..

Meanwhile salt is rubbed in to the wounds by Celtic domestically and in Europe…
