Reality is a different country

1769

I was asked a cracking question last night: ‘Everyone knows Rangers went into administration on 14 February 2012, but do you know what date they came out of administration?’

Can anyone guess? This is the material Cognitive Dissonance is made of.

Duff and Phelps did an incredible job. Had they stuck to Whyte’s plan, put a fait accompli to the SPL, with a matter of days to decide, ‘Our Hero’ would still own the ground, the club and would still be exalted by those who initially crowned him ‘Our Hero’, before the term became a weapon of irony.

We got a further glimpse into the goings-on at Cardiff before popular and successful manager, Malky Mackay, was sacked.  Chief exec, Simon Lim, while commenting on the £30m loss the club made last season, as a Championship club, spoke of the signing of 20-year-old striker Andreas Cornelius for £7.5m, from Copenhagen, with a £45k per week, 5 year contract, somewhat more than the £6k he was previously coping with in Denmark.

Earlier this month Malky said, “What I said at the time still stands. £7.5m was our record transfer at the time but a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward in the Premier League costs two or three times that and every team in the Premier League are striving for someone like that.”

There you have it, £7.5m is not enough to buy a hit-the-ground-running centre-forward, you’ll need two or three times that! In England, reality really is a different country (this is not me getting involved in the referendum debate, before the nationalists start trolling me again).

English football is broken in ways it is increasingly difficult to fathom. Only the persistent annual losses and ballooning debt figures offer a glimpse into what the future may hold.

Our namesakes, Belfast Celtic, withdrew from league football shortly after their players were attacked by a mob following the final whistle at game against Linfield on Boxing Day 1948. Star man, Jimmy Jones, died yesterday. The then 20-year-old was thrown over a wall and out of the stadium, breaking his leg in the process.

That was the end for Belfast Celtic but Jimmy recovered and is the Irish League’s all-time top goalscorer.

It seems that we are headed for the old financial rocks

Perhaps people will now get off PL’s back about not spending money since it appears that any day now we are about to be bankrupt!

Perhaps Pistol Pete is saving our pennies for a rainy day!

Been a decent day on the exchanges, 5 mins for AZ to score and a very good day, no looking like it tho.

Watched Tony Watt tonight, had a decent game, didn’t show as in the past few weeks, but mush of that was down to poor service.

Play him thro the middle and he will shine for us.

Sorry to hear those comments. The Celtic family is a broad church and this blog as petec has illustrated encapsulates that. I too think that the blog is a much better site because of the wide variety of opinions expressed on a multitude of topics. In case you hadn’t noticed some NI politicians( using the term politicians very loosely) attacked our club probably on an issue that you would agree with them. Some on here decide to take issue with them on the issue itself and indeed on their hypocrisy. As I said earlier I will take no lessons on sectarianism from those whose sole purpose is to prop it up. The alternative is to act like a carpet and if you do that there is nothing surer than you will get walked over. In terms of following Celtic and attending games I get up at 6 to get the bus and depn upon the boat will be home at 11pm or 3am the next day. Having said that I don’t feel it gives me any more or less rights re posting on this site. Everybody’s contributions should be welcomed. That is what makes us who we are.

  5. I notice the sentimental euphoria on Fergus is building to fever pitch in time for his visit.

He did a job,got well rewarded and walked into the sunset.(a foreign sunset at that…..Celtic fans’ share money in his sky rocket…..attracting very little tax,in an offshore account).

Fair play to him…..it’s what businessmen do….and some might say that he was disproportionately rewarded for a small risk that others would have taken.Rewarded from the pockets of hard working taxpayers even.

A polite round of applause on the day is probably merited.Anything else is like his level of reward……Disproportionate.

    Some might say………….

    I’m stil here.

Hope you fall in with another bottle of something equally good soon.

    Slainte!

  7. It’s time to show we are Celtic supporters.

If u can , show your support .

    Go to the game tomorrow.

  8. Even balls are girly these days,ey?

Charlton captain Johnnie Jackson, 31, has criticised the pale orange ball that will be used in this weekend’s FA Cup fifth-round ties – claiming it is too girly.

Feargus’ legacy is our fantastic stadium

    and our well managed finances.

However i agree that there is some Feargus

    revisionism now taking place.

FM was a football financial visionary

however he was not a football man.

Very good points and well made.

Ah-the old sixoclock start to the Celtic supporting day!

I disagree. You cannot put a price on the cost of saving Celtic. Well you can but I would rather focus on the result than the cost.

  12. Auldheid….

We can agree to disagree mate.

McCann got more than others would have taken,in my opinion.

There wee others ready to ‘save’ the club.

  13. Gordan64

Hope you and the legend that is VP are keeping well.

    Doc/Sixoclockatthechapel much appreciated.

  14. Wonder if all the people on here slating the board about losing the soul of the club and Brother Walfrid being ashamed the way the PLC are acting etc ,etc . Do you think Brother Walfrid would have approved IRA songs being sang at Celtic Park.

  15. FM alone did not save Celtic although

he was instrumental in our eventual revival.

It should also be remembered that Mr McCann

made a shed load of money on the deal before he left.

  16. Aidenbhoy….

Songs being sung at Celtic Park?

Heard it’s noisier in Parkhead Library these days.

    The Plc have no soul.

That is why crowds are on a downward spiral.

Not the Celtic most of us want.
