Rebellious behaviour will last for years

916

It will surprise no one that Uefa have charged our football club with “the displaying of an offensive banner and setting off of fireworks [sic]by fans”, this action was as inevitable as the dawn.  At least some of our number believes setting off flares in a football stadium is a reasonable action and that provoking European football’s governing body is a smart thing to do.

In terms of protest, “**** Uefa” is not quite up there with Martin Luther’s Thesis or what we’ve witnessed in the Arab world this year.  It’s simple rebellious behaviour, which some of us are compelled by in our teens and a few take a long time to shake off.

Forget calls to self-police, I’ve never seen it work with a football support.  Ever.  If you think you are going to convince anyone the folly of profane banners, flares or even IRA chanting at a football game, save your breath.  Those who are up for the protest (whatever the subject is) are more likely to find your call for restraint as complicity.

This series of protest and consequence will run for years, will split the support and damage Celtic.  Neither the club nor the support has the leadership to do anything about it.  Copy and paste the thoughts you write on the subject, you can use them again without having to retype.

I meant £10m …….the £19m figure is what they will need for jellyfish….!!!!!

Jellylegs has scored 12 domestic goals this season – 5 penalties i.e. nearly 50%

So 7 goals in open play by Xmas will not attract serious interest from big clubs down south – Wigan perhaps :)

Agree, Victor was my man of the match yesterday again.

Celtic are playing a bounce game against Morton on Wednesday at Lennoxtown, which must be to get players back to fitness, such as K.Wilson, Emilio Izzaguire, possibly Adam Matthews, and Kris Commons. Glenn Loovens.

It may be Victor will be required as a CB for the next two games, partnering Charlie Mulgrew or Thomas Rogne owing to Big Dan’s injury,

  4. celtic fc are being ran by a bunch of amatures and thats evident in what is happening at our club and has been happening at our club for the last 4 years. we may not all share the same views and opinions and we may disagree about what celtic ought to be, but we all share the same desire to see our celtic team winning, that is not happening and we are all to blame.

the board and the fans are so far removed from each other and unless there is a coming together on everyones part then we all suffer.

for example, the club insist they will ban fans for life, yes life, forever, because they acted a little stupid. now people murder others and get far less time, are we seriously saying its ok to ban, what is often young kids from celtic park, until they die when we can educate them and keep their support. kids make stupid mistakes all the time are we suggesting its one stick and your out, because if thats the case then good help us all.

    “outwith the big leagues”,

What does “outwith” mean Exiled Tim? Surely you mean “outside”? A Scottish word, per chance?

Hen1rik…..is there an “Outwith” lane on the “M8″?

Thought I passed you on it earlier tonight, going “through” to Edinburgh…:)))))

I’m on it noo m8 after today’s battering on here lol.

  6. haha, the orcs agreeing a £5m out of court settlement.

Such a low sum in comparison to the full figure would suggest that, had such an agreement been made, the HMRC case was “hingin on a shoogly peg”. This would further suggest that such a shoogly peg would come clean off the wall in court ergo no settlement offer would be forthcoming from the orcs and they would be (privately) confident of winning their case (as opposed to privately bricking it but being bullish in front of the LL).

Out of court settlements do not, by the way, set legal presidence (sic).

And yes, the various ‘wee’ tax bills do add up to roughly £5m.

I won’t be having a pop my friend.

Just looking forward to your defense of the singing, loud and proud, of ‘Go on home British Soldiers’ (without the serious sweary word) since it contains no reference to those three letters (or simply two if you’re especially sensitive). The added bonus being it also doesn’t contain any references to any ‘prescribed organisations’.

    Hell, it’s perfect!

Perhaps they’ll play it on the tannoy right after ‘This Land’…

    Night mate…

  9. Dalziel said “the ref was shocking” at £land yesterday. Butcher and Forlon thought he had a good game

  10. I don’t know why people put Jelavic down so much. Without him the orcs wouldn’t have qualified for the CL this year. That alone must have been worth £15-20m to them.

When I worked with AJ CFC, I was the ‘without’ evangelist.

Although ‘outwith’ is perfectly acceptable in Deliverance country (or Fife, as it’s better known).

Emilio must be getting close, although it would be a bit of a gamble to put him back in against them. Great news though that he will be back in the first team in the next couple of weeks as he is a Wonderful player and will be desperate to get back out there and play for the Bhoys again.

Ideally I’d like to get Victor back into a Solid 3 man midfield of V (at base of it), Broonie and Kayal to really outmuscle that lot in the key midfield area. Literally bully them out of the game the way Lenny and Keano did at Ibrox, so if Kelvin or Glen are up to speed all the better but it won’t be too bad if Victor has to play at the back.

I take it Joe Ledley is unlikely to play?

  15. Bournesouprecipe:

Why not play Charlie and Rogne as CBs?

Vic as Lennon seems to work too well to give it up…

I can’t entirely agree with you West Wales Celt but at least you are being smart. Work round the law. If you can get your point of view across without getting Celtic or even yourselves in trouble, fair play to you.

Tommy Cook wanted to leave at 6:15 but the Police insisted a police convoy leaving at 7 with about 6/7 buses. Some bhoys went DIY and stayed behind to gain more drinking time but I would imagine that the security would still be the same later on.

Outwith would sure be a Scottish word, and is used predominantly in the NE. It’s a good word, encompasses many things, another NE word that is even better is Sine, means whatever you want it to mean.

When I lived in Ireland, they had an even better word that meant even more than Sine, and the word is Yoke.

As for your description of Fife, I concur 100% :>)

The PLC Board has, for some time, been clear it is in favour of extinguishing any mention of the IRA at Celtic Park. In pursuit of that objective it would appear that it has been complicit in both police activity, complaints to UEFA and attacks on a section of the Celtic support. It is not in the interests of the PLC Board to defend either the Club or the support at this point in pursuing its objective.

It has made this position clear through its CEO and Club Manager. The PLC Board has decided that this is the time to pursue this issue and is therefore aware of the coverage and image issues currently being thrown to our detractors and in some cases enemies.

At the same time our Nemesis across the river is in meltdown financially, but also reputationally and has been fighting a rearguard action on a number of fronts in order to prevent complete extinction. As the Scottish establishment club it expects to be able to call on (and has done so) support from all quarters. It sees 2 possible scenarios. Drag us down with them or survive by making us the life raft.

In the PLC world the Celtic Board is not convinced at all by the demise of Der Hun and thinks this will ultimately be bad for income and the balance sheet. It is therefore currently following a line of appeasement as it thinks that it will be to the detriment of Celtic for the hose to be applied to Der Hun. This is not a view shared by the vast majority of the support.

The PLC Board is therefore pitching itself against the main Celtic support on 2 fronts. Firstly against a vocal minority who do not wish to stop singing about the IRA and do not believe that they should. Secondly against the vast majority of the support who not only want the hose applied, but would like nothing better than to hold the hose personally.

What can we conclude from this? The PLC Board is seriously detached from the general feelings of the support in relation to our broken southsiders. It has either deliberately or mistakenly adjudged this to be the time to address (in their eyes) the RA question. The PLC Board (like most people in power) is convinced that all its actions are not only right but justified. It isn’t listening.

For their part the RA supporters are indignant and initially took on the PLC Board (as well as others engaged in the defence of Der Hun). This has been somewhat restrained in recent weeks, largely due to the personal intervention of our Manager and the respect afforded him by the support.

The vast majority of the support has announced their displeasure that one of the offspring in the family (not heard that word for a while) has been singled out for some pretty nasty treatment. That is clear. However, the RA supporters may have deduced this for support for their position rather than for their treatment.

This effectively means that off the park where we have a fully fit team playing against a team with their ankles tied together we have nevertheless been scoring OGs for fun instead of focussing on ratcheting up a beating of significant proportions.

It seems that Der Hun have the Big Tax Issue and The Wee Tax Issue. I think that all the forces of the establishment are clear what the current clear policy issue is and they are all determined to deliver Der Hun from Evil with a minimum of spanking.

Meanwhile, with all the tactical advantages at its disposal, there is no agreement on the Big Policy Issue for Celtic, no agreement on priorities and no agreement on strategy, leading to a divided house.

As a family we are entitled to hold differing views, entitled to argue, entitled to make mistakes and entitled to express ourselves. But if in so doing we lose sight of the big picture we are doing our forebears and our descendents a poor service.

Time for unity. Time for unity of purpose. Time for reflection and to decide whether our current tactics are helping us win the game, lose it or snatch a scabby draw from the open jaws of victory.

  24. Just heard an interesting conversation on Ireland’s “Newstalk” while driving home. The program was the excellent sports show, “Off the Ball” and the

presenter was interviewing a Scottish guy about why the EPL has had so many successful Scottish managers.

Anyway, in a very articulate answer, he described the brilliance of Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly and later, Alex Ferguson.

He talked of the excellent system for coaches in Scotland and mentioned a few well known guys. For instance, I didn’t know that

José Mourhino earned his badges in Scotland.

Finally, and with excellent timing, he showed how the whole successful legacy of Scottish managers can be traced to one man, Jock Stein.

The training system and man mangement set up by Big Jock was used by all his compatriots and copied by the next generation.

He stated that Alex Ferguson has always acknowledged the original work of Jock hugely influenced him.

Another interesting factor was how the latest batch of Scottish managers learned their trade from guys who had followed the big man.

Examples given were, David Moyes from Billy McNeil from Big Jock, Alex McLeish from Alex Ferguson from Big Jock, likewise Gordon Strachan.

Anyway, I was really proud at such praise for one of my all time hero’s.

Weird thing was just as I pulled up the house the interview was ending and lo and behold,

I hear the presenter saying, “I’d like to thank Pat Nevin for his unique insight.”
