Celtic will play three familiar opponents in the Champions League group stage: Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow. We have a mixed recent record against Barcelona, eliminating them from the Uefa Cup in 2004, but finishing behind them in the Champions League group stage in the autumn of that year. Barca also knocked Celtic out of the Champions League in the round of 16 in 2008. The Camp Nou is the only ground Celtic have managed to avoid defeat on away Champions League duty.
Gordon Strachan’s Celtic eliminated Benfica from the Champions League group stage in 2007 and again in 2008. They also got the better of Aiden McGeady’s current team, Spartak Moscow , in the Champions League play-off round in 2007.
It is a difficult group for Celtic but each of their opponents will be wary of the Celtic.

From a progress point of view yes. But from a footballing excitement one – I’m happy. United as usual get the Group of Dearth. How bored must their fans be in the group stages?
By the way Braga – Pot 2? No bad for a pub team!!!! Although I was wondering where Maribor, Unirea and Kaunus were!
aye spot on lol man city must be pissed off eh
Big sammy for me but a close comp

Quick vote please guys!
Player of the month for August, choice of five…
A) Kris Commons
B) Victor Wanyama
C) Georgios Samaras
D) Fraser Forster
E) Charlie Mulgrew

Has to be the boy Little from Rangers surely? He is already down for sports writer player of the year……..
Evening,all.
I’m delighted wi the draw, for a number of reasons.
Barca will be a great couple of ties,as they always are. Cement our good relations with the world’s second-greatest club.
Benfica will be a good test for us,but I think we will do well against them.
Spartak, least attractive for me-if I won the Eurolottery tomorrow,I still wouldnae go there. But they will be towards the end of a long season, and are there to be taken on the night.
And finally, just being in the draw at all is a h-u-g-e GIRUY to all the so-called experts who said we wouldn’t be there.
Back to goat-bothering for them,I’m afraid.
So Swally has not been banned from the touchline – why must the Sevconians be punished once more? I demand to know who’s idea the suspended sentence was?

Exciting and frightening prospect young Messi facing the hoops!!
I saw the worse case scenario of Barca, Man City and Juve and was more excited than frightened.

Are you anythign to Sheik Mahaun?
Anyway – I suspect Manure will have problems filling their ground in that group. They need the shekels too!!
City? I’d love to have sympathy for the 100’s of millions of ££££’s team getting such a tough group but for some reason I’m struggling…….
Have you read that article on the bbc re Sally’s ban?
“The company that previously ran Rangers entered administration in February with mounting liabilities, including debts to several Scottish clubs.”
“However, after the Rangers Football Club plc could not be saved from liquidation and were relaunched by Green’s consortium.”
Unbe-fing-lievable!!!
Celtic have never won their opening game in the Champions League.
This must change against Benfica.
Ross County boss Derek Adams named manager of the month – well, I guess 4 wins in Europe don’t really count if you can go a month without losing in the SPL.
S
3 match touch line ban, suspended for 12 months, fo allycat, for his reaction to the transfer ban …..the SFA have no integrity at all…..way back to watch the rest of the Celtic game…

Absolutely. Another great aspect of the Celtic support is their appreciation of good football played by good players regardless of who (well apart from our former rivals) is playing it. The Champions League is all the better because the love of Celtic is there, the love of football, the love of a challenge and an absence of the edge of ‘hatred’ that tainted our other big games against Deadco.
What a shot in the arm this is for Celtic.
Delighted. Over the moon.
Nothing to lose, everything to gain. Don’t often agree with Chic Nic but he said today that Celtic are in a win win situation. Cannot wait for this to start.
Good sensible pricing by Celtic that should ensure full houses.
Ole Greeny on Shortbread talking about his attempts to sign Templeton from Hearts, he’s a law to himself that cretin.
The huns have died but the SFA decision today tells us same old same old.
Which should be of no surprise
As it is now all open and accountable.
Can we ask why it was deemed necessary to suspend Sallys sentence ?
Can the SFA assure us that his behaviour in the shame game was also taken into account.
It is time to get this sorted.

‘marvellous day for the players….watching the draw was a magnificent feeling
I think itv owe us an apology’
What did they do?
Urgent request please:
Need date for the Barca away game. 100% no guesses, just nearly booked a return flight on 24th, but UEFA site states we play that night.
Headline on BBC site reads:-
“Cardiff sign Noone from Brighton”
That’s nothing- we’ve no signed anybody fae Sevco either.
Awe_Naw
It is necessary to suspend the sentence as having him on the touchline is the real punishment. What if he wasn’t there and they started winning all their games?
Anyway, as I said earlier, the verdict and the timing of the news release stinks ‘good day for bad news’ some once said I think.
S
Who was on the disciplinary panel ?
I demand to know ?
The Scottish public demands to know

Good to be at home for our final group game. Better being at home if we need a point or points to go further.

The latest spin. Comical Ally and co continue to peddle bullplop to the hard of understanding while they part with their hard earned to pretend they are watching Rangers 1872.
More fool them and hell mend them. They killed the old club, they will stop the new one from getting off the ground. Don’t interupt them……
just been on the celtic website and the package for season book holders is £84 for adults which is very reasonable

Samaras for me
£84 for the three match package. I’m liking this more by the minute……………….Nice.
My son keeps all the paper tickets from all previous games. Just had a look at the Shaktar game ticket from 2007 (£34 Non SB price for LL Stand) and ManU game ticket from 2008 (£38 Non SB price for JS Stand). So good pricing.
Bring on the Barca.
ASonOfDan –

I’m told Templeton is a Celtic fan. He is also a half decent player.
If he does go there serious questions will need to be asked as to why and how these guys (em, the mighty sandaza and internationalist Black and the mighty fat kevin kyle) are being persuaded to go to the third division……….
A guy like Templeton could go to the championship and treble his wages no worries.
