Celtic will play three familiar opponents in the Champions League group stage: Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow. We have a mixed recent record against Barcelona, eliminating them from the Uefa Cup in 2004, but finishing behind them in the Champions League group stage in the autumn of that year. Barca also knocked Celtic out of the Champions League in the round of 16 in 2008. The Camp Nou is the only ground Celtic have managed to avoid defeat on away Champions League duty.
Gordon Strachan’s Celtic eliminated Benfica from the Champions League group stage in 2007 and again in 2008. They also got the better of Aiden McGeady’s current team, Spartak Moscow , in the Champions League play-off round in 2007.
It is a difficult group for Celtic but each of their opponents will be wary of the Celtic.

Fat fingers…
Glasgow Celtic have rejected an offer from Queens Park Rangers for the Kenya international Victor Wanyama, who has been informed he will not be allowed to leave the Scottish champions in the present transfer window regardless of substantial
interest from England.
QPR proposed a deal worth more than £6 million (Dh34.8m) to Celtic for the powerfully built central midfielder at the beginning of this week only to be told Wanyama was not for sale. QPR subsequently readjusted their targets and are working on a deal for the Cameroon international Stephane M’Bia. Wanyama was told of Celtic’s decision ahead of a crucial Champions League
qualifying tie with Helsingborgs on Wednesday. Although upset at being denied the opportunity to fulfil his ambition to become the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League, the 21 year
old resolved to focus on the European tie, and scored in a 2-0 victory.

was it you who bumped into WDH in Cambuslang last week?
Well, our chances in the group look good,if we can just get 2 or 3 players in with good CL experience to help the Bhoys on.
Our away form is better these days and is say were much more exciting as a team than under GS,the good thing is were the underdog now unlike the q’s so the pressures off,if we just make sure our defence isnt sitting adrift and take games to teams I feel were good enough to progress.
Said earlier the two huns would get off after us qualifying,it was a certainty, the whole set up in Scotland has no shame,Sevco should have been forced into giving the dumplin’ a ten year contract.
Well done to Celtic on the pricing for the CL group matches.
No doubt the huns and their friends in the msm will put a negative spin on this – prices down because of the Armagedon scenario!
Three sell-out crowds bringing in c£5 million in gate receipts?!
Plus a minimum(?) of £15 million from the UEFA pot?!
Thems are/will be bealin!
HH!!
Tom,
All our group have come a cropper against us, I think they will be very wary, we have earned their respect, obviously a bit more than you credit.
Hun on Clyde tonight..
“Can you get the people that come onto your show to stop calling us Sevco or New club?”
Delahunt. “Eh no it’s a free country”.
Hahaha. Made me laugh anyway. Ain’t it great to be a Tim?
Great draw. Lenny and the bhoys will do us proud of that I have no doubt.
Another vote for Fraser Forster – just recall how I felt after the Helsingborgs away game.

Keep the Faith!
Hail Hail!
It just goes to show how money has contorted the game down south when we’ve got to fight off interest from nonentities like QPR for our best players like Wanyama.
Season ticket packages for home ties a snip at £84, £60 for kids. Well done to the board.
I’m a bit deflated with the draw. I was looking forward to playing someone different, getting the chance to see Celtic in the Bernabeau or the Alliance or somewhere else I haven’t been to before.
While we have magic Euro nights to look forward to…..trips being planned as we type….the sleekit muppet fae the darkside has sold his soul to Snotty G for 25 years…as good as a life sentence for king ned…..
…..the sfa : lookin’ out for f.c. ratbag and no one else. Campbell Ogilvie…what’s he for? What’s the point of him? Like an untreatable std.
Right the votes are in……
And Georgios Samaras wins by a country mile! He has ten votes to his name, with Forster having 4 and Commons 3.
Thank you for all that votes, now to complete by monthly report for the magazine with the result!
A sorry state of affairs indeed when we sell a player to Swansea for an initial £6.3 million plus add-ons, and are telling QPR than another of our prize assets is not for sale.
HH!!
I think we should tell Vic that we have knocked back Real, Barca, Man U etc. Before every game. He was fantastic last night.
Pay rise Peter
Especially after his post match interview. The bhoy was the consumate professional

Not sure I follow.
Which part of that is “a sorry state of affairs” – selling Ki or not selling Wanyama?
Not having a go mate. I genuinely do not understand the point you are making.
Have just been trying to find out who these two players we are set to sign that Lennon talked about last night are. I’ve been trying everywhere to find out who they are, but can’t. I’d love to see Del Pierro, he’s always been a very clever player and those type of players often get better with age. I do wonder if it’s a smoke screen though.
Burley asked if it is a wise move for Templeton to join the Huns.
“Who knows?” he says.
Joke of a commentator. I remember him slaughtering the standard of Scottish football after we scored 8 at Dunfermline.
Now, he is non-committal about a bright prospect plummeting to the fourth tier (and joining a club with a manager whose own fans even consider a useless football dinosaur…)
Reading a few Spanish reports on the draw for Barca and they are giving the impression we are a very awkward game for them. They dont easily forget teams who pap them out a competition.

I’m in Barcelona that week and am looking for same info
fingerscrossed csc
Fair play to Hearts.
They are trying very hard in this game.

I thought that was a blatant dive by Templeton. He will be in good company if he joins SevCo

I thought it was Sutton, shows how much attention I am paying..
A few minutes ago, the BBC online Live summary showed Liverpool 1-0 Hearts.
Now it is back to 0-0.
Which is it?
Celtic have went from 500/1 to 350/1 to win CL. Dermot must have put a fiver on us…
0 0 Tom..
Liverpool had a goal disallowed as the ball had gone out for a goal kick
Wishing we drew a dutch team…I knew a girl from holland once, she wore inflatable shoes….unfortunately she’s popped her clogs…(Mr T. Cooper circa. 1976) ithankyou
