Regan footloose and disingenuous with the facts

456

Stewart Regan is today telling the media that only one club wants a review of what happened at Rangers during recent SFA president Campbell Ogilvie’s tenure as a director of the club. I think we can amend that slightly to read: only one LEAGUE of 42 professional clubs want a review of what happened.

It is utterly disingenuous for the SFA chief executive to portray the SPFL’s request for a review as a one-club issue. Regan is seeking protection in the amateur clubs’ numbers, ALL OF WHOM receive patronage from the SFA, against the wishes of the country’s only professional league.

You will remember how Sepp Blatter used the power of patronage with tiny Fifa nations to secure his grip on due process. Fifa money was spent and magnificent stadiums built where football scarcely had a foothold at the whim of Blatter, who enjoyed unquestioning support from micro-nations’ Associations.

When a chief executive uses the numbers in the amateur game, to outweigh the wishes of the 42 club professional league, for a review into what took place while a recent past president was a director at an errant club, you have all the ingredients for an abuse of patronage.

Stewart, all we’re asking for is a review, don’t pretend the country’s only professional league structure doesn’t exist.

Yes that’s the beauty of it from the SFA’s point of view, their can be no punishment to the club, hence the reason they will have a look.

Why do we need Hibs backing to take this to court?

This should go to the CAS, only one outcome, slam dunk case, it has to be done, a lot of rival fans will be behind it, with or without their chairman’s backing.

As I said a little earlier, many thousands did not boycott.I think they were still getting 13,000 going.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————

Around 6,000 were at the boycott match which was low enough to force the issue and the rest is now part of our history and folklore.

Well before the start of every season, club treasurers in the SPFL sit down with their chairman to calculate their income based on forecast ticket sales. What they decide is what determines how much their managers get to spend on contract renewals and acquisitions. Their calculations include two home games against us where they assume their will be a 100% take-up by our fans.

Even if only there was only a 50% boycott, this would leave a massive hole in their finances and they would be forced into drastic action like reducing their squad in the January transfer window which in turn increases the risk that they fall into the relegation dog-fight or fail to gain a place in Europe. If it looked like we could deliver a near 100% boycott these cowards would soon change their tune. We have the bullets, we have the guns. All we need is the guts to fire them at our enemies.

  3. Not a great fan of the Nats / Tartan Tories.

Liked when he first had a platform for his ability to attack with confidence and conviction.

Obviously it didn’t last as he got lazy and retreated into alliteration and third rate slogans.

Consequently not a fan of independence as it is based on nationalism, separation and division.

However one of the more practical reasons for being an internationalist is that Scotland as currently set up does not have the civic, cultural, societal, judicial or emotional ballast to be able to go it alone. We are too small with limited horizons and a limited gene pool to govern ourselves in a fair and equitable manner.

The SFA / TFOD / TFOD2 / TFOD2a shambles shows how limited we are.

Where is the fearless press capable of telling truth unto power?

Where is the strong judiciary that you need to hold power to account?

They are independent on in regard to the schools they attended.

The stewardship / business ethics plus the collapse of the TFOD and DM’s place in it all needs a full investigation. We as a nation are incapable of delivering this.

Consequently independence would be a disaster as the same attitudes would affect every aspect of Scottish life and the only response to national failure would be a hunt for scapegoats.

Praecepta who posts on here was one of the original people who were behind the Celts for Change, I;m sure he will furnish us with the right stats of the time, he told us it wisny easy and any boycott will be fraught with danger, we just can’t let this go, else we are the losers.

Weebobby – sad to see but emotions running high.

Celtic fans need to play it cool.

On the field – we’ve won the treble, haven’t lost domestically for ages, back to back champions league.

Off the field – the club is in great shape, nasty newspapers are dying, and the slow clear out of the SFA rangers supporters club is progressing.

Celebration not militancy should be the order of the day.

    Hail hail

  6. Gooood Evening CQN

Is Andrew Dickson, still in his role with FtSFA, yes the same Dickson who was involved in the alleged deception back in the EBT years ? Is he a board member ?

Then we have have Petrie, is he not one of the architects of the Secretive 5 Way agreement ?

So he will not want that out

Oh nice one Mr Reagan, if any of the participants in the 5 way agreement are prepared to release the detail of this agreement he will happily do so – hahahahahaha

Celtic Board, no turning back please, your fans are behind you 100%, see this through to the truth

Ben Johnson, Lance Armstrong, they competed fairly as well, until the Truth got out

  7. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS on 11TH SEPTEMBER 2017 9:50 PM,

I’ll be in the house watching.

I’m with Beatbhoy, won’t be back in Paradise till the same club shite is condemned etc. by Celtic. :-)

As for the stripping of titles, should be mandatory re rules but, couldn’t care less, I know, they know etc.

But, I now only go to away games – apart from Ibrox and Tynecastle, I know, but willing to stop the rest if the rest of the support follow.

Tomorrow could be a great time to show the world the corruption but, you will be lucky if 300 out of a crowd of 60k know what’s happening in the real world and, there’s the biggest problem.

    Twas always thus :-(

  8. the long wait is over on

Saw Regans interview earlier and it’s truly one of the most toe curlingly absurd pieces

of disingenuous guff I’ve ever had the misfortune to witness.

Even IF Celtic were the only club to ask for a full review that of itself should be enough to justify it taking place. Hell we should even offer to pay for it.

That a club , any club , whose profile and financial and credibility contribution to Scottish football so absurdly dwarves anyone else’s and who patently suffered more financial loss than everyone else combined from losing out on a possible CL league place should be denied an independent review which natural justice demands because the SFA say that Amateur clubs don’t want one is so outrageous as to be downright laughable.

Stewart Regan is so hopelessly either conflicted or out of his depth that he’s has lost all credibility and should be relieved of his duties immediately.

  9. That awkward moment when, Fergus claimed that fans shouldn’t fly the tricolor as, some might find it provocative – back in the day.

That awkward moment when, Fergus said – “The decision to put Rangers FC, out of the same league as, Celtic FC, was the worst decision in Scottish football history.” – back in the day.

That awkward moment when, Brendan says – “A football stadium is not the place for, political songs.”

…..and, still they sing them !!!

Scottish football is effffed….because of, season ticket entrapment.

The introduction of, the wholesale season ticket era, brokered by David Murray and, latched onto by Fergus McCann, was the day that, the fitba fan’s power was neutralized.

    Anyway,….

For those guid honest, innocent, well meaning, ghuys & dholls who will be there the morra night, please be of a mind that, that club is, what ?, one ?, two?, dafty fines away from, stadium closure, banned from Europe, or who knows what else ? Thing is, be cute, leave the tardis at home, but, seriously, when you support the Cellic [like I did, back in the day] well, you have to be alive to the situation, that, there will be special, exclusive rules that will apply to you, that’s why, being cute, should be the beginning and, end of *your* own, game management. Don’t let yer guard down and, hold up a dafty banner or, sing tardis songs, which will have consequences. Jist, jist gonnae no.

Give yerselves a task,….see who can be as cute,….as Dena ;)

I personally have not attended a League Cup game or a FtSFA cup game for several years, not a single penny from me to that organisation

You do realise, even games at Celtic park in these competitions, we do not take the full Gate receipts and that we are funding these organisations.

    Boycott them

The feeling is all over, I haven’t seen any dissenting voices on any of the boards.

If the suits do the right thing, the support will back them to the hilt, all day long.

They just have to see this through, as hard as it will be, they have to do it, else we are fecked, and I’m sure they know this, it’s now or never IMO, I just would like to live this one out, I never thot that I would see the huns die, I did, I really want to see us take on the establishment and win, that will do for this Tim.

    ================================================================

The recent release of correspondence from P.L. suggests that the gloves are off.

Hard to know why this didn`t happen before , but I trust that the Board knows precisely what it is doing in relation to this matter and why it is doing it.

The question is why was this action taken.

Was it an exercise in P.R. designed to mollify our support ?

I doubt that . If that were the motivation , it could have been done long ago .

What does our Board hope to achieve by taking this action ?

My view is that this is the start of a process not the end of one.

We , at Celtic , appear to be on the outer on this .

Just where we have always been .

The outcome is uncertain , but for me ,what I needed to know was that the Board were on it.

    They are.

Hail Hail , my fellow Tim.

  14. Jeez I am sorry JT….Not

We need your input here, this as as big as it was back in your day mi amigo, bigger if the truth be known, the money has well taken over.

I know what I want to happen but do the support really feel that way, we have Calton Tongues saying that 300 ish out of 60K will know what this is all about, I reckon it’s a wee bit more that 300, but he is no far off the mark, so what is the answer, the answer is a boycott, tell the smsm that we are boycotting away games, they can’t not tell the world, take it from there, then we will see where their aleigences lie.

    HH

  15. Cowiebhoy…I think Regan said, if ALL the participants were happy to release details of 5-way agreement he would do so….nae chance!!!

Caltontongues…agree there is good deal of apathy amongst elements of our support…enjoy tomorrow.

  16. MacJay

Aye, it really seems like the gloves are off, I hope and pray the club carry this through, if we don’t we are the losers, I’m sure that the suits will be aware of this, as I said, it’s stick or twist, it’s the end game, this is what we have all been wanting for years, I just hope it comes to fruition whatever the outcome.

  17. GORDYBHOY64 on 11TH SEPTEMBER 2017 9:21 PM,

Does referring the euro licence to the compliance officer impact our ability to refer the matter to UEFA or in some way weaken our hand with UEFA?

Many of the actions of our football authorities seem to be driven by the desire to keep UEFA at arms length. New-club payment of European football debts for example or SPFL investigation with SFA as appellate body.

I know the big lad on the right with his hands in his pocket. A rare sight that is too!

The odds against us succeeding , I feel, are high.

But the result is almost secondary to me. The knowledge that we are doing the right thing is what really matters.

  20. I frequented the jungle between ’68 & ’74

I remember die hard Celtic fans that sang and supported Celtic through good and bad, (mostly good), but, for the life of me I can’t remember the thousands of “rebels” kevj keeps talkin about…….unless me and my mates were rebels and didn’t know it at the time…….

  21. Cheers for the replies to my question about the compliance officer,

Neither was I but then along came Brexit which kindof ticks all these boxes too…

  23. Anyway, before I go…I hope tomorrow we play our own game, the one we are used to playing. It’s no time for experimentation. We are good at what we do when we do it well. So, no matter the team selection, with a great, noisy support playing its part, we can turn these pesky zillionaires over…3-2 to the bhoys…

    Bring it on! Can’t wait…

  24. eddieinkirkmichael on

I go to as many away games as I can get tickets for, this season I’ve been fortunate enough to get tickets for my grandsons to also attend with me.

I would support a boycott but only if the offal supporter reps also backed it, no point otherwise imho.

I also think Celtic FC could show a lead by refusing to handle any away tickets for Scottish cup games, including semi and finale if we are fortunate enough to reach them.

  25. MacJay

I have told you before my feeling on your politics, they stink :-) but I have never doubted your love for Celtic, although we may have differing ideas on how we love them, we agree that we want the club to go get them, we have no choice, this really is the end game.
