Reports of Roberts loan to Celtic denied

509

Celtic have NOT agreed a deal to take Patrick Roberts on loan next season.  Sources within the club expressed surprise at reports claiming as much. The club have been working with Manchester City and the player for some months, in an attempt to secure the services of the England youth international.

A loan deal is only one of the options being discussed.  But while Celtic look the most likely destination for Patrick, there is still work to be done.

Celtic, who will soon be able to offer guaranteed Champions League football to prospective players, are active in a number fronts.

No loan fees ? A class act who compliments the way Celtic play, and deadly on his left peg, hope he does come back but preferably as a signing rather than a loan.

I think you will find that we pay a fair whack of a loan fee on top of the wages, £2.75 mill has been mooted, how accurate that is I have not a clue, but for sure we are not just paying his wages.

A year is a long time in football, this time last year Armstrong wasn’t much in Brendan’s plans (till about November ?) this time next year Stuart could have had a great season enjoying his football even more, at the moment Brendan wants him or he would have got rid …. all good for the fans no downside in securing a talent, 2yrs / 5yrs in this day doesn’t matter, it’s only what a club will accept and hopefully our manager is deciding who goes and who stays

  11. Petec

Some Celtic supporters find it impossible to get past their own anti Celtic board bent, and it is their measure of all things Celtic whether it’s TGB, Hoopy the Huddlehound, or the price of pies.

Stuart Armstrong ‘if there was a bid’ which there clearly wasn’t could have stiffed Celtic in a very near John Collins such of way.

But he didn’t he has gone against his long standing professional advice group, who wanted him to hold out for ‘their fees’ and instead stayed loyal to Celtic so that they will get at least nearer his true value, should he be sold, or keep him again for two more years towards the ten.

Maybe the negativists should have posted beforehand that they wouldn’t be satisfied with anything other than the Quiff signed on a ten year deal? – but nobody did.

‘Armstrong of the Celtic’ sounds so much better, and I’m glad he agrees.

I agree, but there must be something holding things up, it’s either a loan or a sale, a sale imo would be much easier to sew up, agree a price, wages and how long and it’s a done deal, loans aremore complicated and I have never heard of a loan at this level without a fee, imo this will be the sticking point, Pedro is well known for wanting a good deal and City are entitled to get as good a deal as they can.

As I said we will be paying a fee on top of the wages, hence my reason for saying that I am really not too bothered if he comes back or not, we are developing him for them to rake in the profit, granted we will have a quality player, but remember for a year he wasn’t getting a start in front of James, when James got injured Paddy got in and fair play to him he did good, but he wasn’t always a first choice starter.

I am not a board lover by any shape or for, but I personally think they are doing the right thing here and holding out for as good a deal as we can for him, there are others out there who I reckon won’t cost anything like Paddy will cost us, tis a problem dealing with EPL clubs, they are cash drunk.

I did watch that banner from Legia Warsaw bench :-)

I know the guy who runs Legia Warsaw supporters website. Legia’s interpreter for Russian language could not be there for pre and after game conferences. Legia asked if Marcin knew anyone who could be there? This is how I got there, as a interpreter at both conferences. Legia media representative told me the he guy from UEFA was Scottish but I do not know his name. I did not ask who he was? You should see UEFA guys faces when the performance started. UEFA fined Legia with € 35 000. I know that just after the fine was announced, one of the guys set collection of that sum (for Legia) plus € 100 000 for still living veterans of Warsaw Uprising. Legia supporters and other people collected more than that in a few hours. Legia said they will pay fine from their bank and will give similar sum to the veterans.

Pretty much agree with that. Celtic Plc are far from stupid and personally I think they’ve played the Paddy situation well.

I don’t doubt that there has been some outlay in addition to wages but there’s no chance it’s been £2.5m.

I too think that Celtic, rightly, are holding and hoping for a permanent deal.

    Good on them!
