Rodgers interview is just noise

302

Can everyone just calm their jets on the notion that Brendan Rodgers, or anyone else for that matter, is in prime position for the manager’s job?

I’ve seen these appointments at close quarters for a long time.  An interview is often little more than a courtesy.  Remember years ago, the ex-Juventus boss, a disaster in Turin, never taken seriously in Glasgow, but he had an influential agent that Celtic wanted to get closer to?

There was also an ex-Celtic player who applied. Everyone know he was a hopeless manager, but still, am ex-player deserved a little courtesy.  He was interviewed, then politely told they were going in a different direction.

Brendan was a winning Celtic manager. If, as reported, he was interviewed, you’d better believe he has invested some capital in even being considered. The way he behaved at Liverpool, then Celtic, and his lack of structural legacy at both these clubs and at Leicester, means Brendan has a bit of a reputational challenge going forward. Even being considered by Celtic would do him good.

I don’t see it going any further than this, though.  We’ve seen what an actual great manager can do. One that leaves a legacy of a valuable squad.  One that never considered short-term loans as part of his modus operandi. A team player in every sense.

We have had an elite operator for two years. The difference to what went before is stark.

I know that in 2019 we didn’t as much appoint Neil Lennon as end up with him after an unfruitful search. So, if we’re reading the signs, there’s a chance we’ll end up with a breaker, not a builder.

I’m reading the signs and I just can’t see Brendan Rodgers getting this gig.  His interview is just noise, it’s not the sound you should be paying attention to.

I await you’re next post with 80’s level fear including manager level espionage, CQN spy stories and espionage fears that were popular during the 1980s, partly fueled by the ongoing board (kelly’s) War.

The fear of covert operations, espionage, and infiltration by enemy huns added to the general atmosphere of suspicion and distrust within the season ticket holders

It’s important to note that these fears and concerns were not uniform for everyone and varied depending on factors such as location, socioeconomic status, and personal circumstances.

  10. The only thing I disliked about Rodgers’ style of play was his possession obsession.

The best thing about it was his penchant for scudding the Huns.

If he can further exploit the ruthlessness of Kyogo, the creativity of Reo and Jota and the rock steadiness of CCV, we will be treated to more hun skelping.

3 or 4 league wins over the cloven hooves almost guarantees CL football and the riches that follow, allowing us to further strengthen the team.

    That’s good enough for me.

  16. Celtic, get this managerial appointment sorted. The last thing we need is dithering on an Eddie Howe scale.

If a ” top” manager is to be installed, he will want autonomy. He will want control over who we sign and who we ship out.

He will need to evaluate the academy prospects.

He will want to oversea pre season tours and training.

He will want to review our rapidly impending fixtures

He will want to properly prepare for our crucial , mega important CL campaign.

He will need familiarisation time, especially if its not BR.

To state the obvious, we cannot do anything of the above and the clock is indeed ticking.

Who is in couple hours flying distance that has the same agent???

    Or something similar

In the last 10 years Celtic has always been good disguising their transfers

No one in the media had a clue till it was announced

I believe this one will be the same……

    ——

So as reported by McGowan, BR had two phone calls with Desmond, these calls went well enough for our CEO and CFO to fly out and present him with an offer and presentation on where we see the Club going. Further talks with Desmond are planned for this week in London.

Very simply, the job is Brendan’s should he want it and I suspect we’re some way down that road already.

  23. If it’s to be Rodgers – and I’d grudgingly accept him back – he needs to be told in no uncertain terms that the core of this present team stays as it is.

  24. Fassreifen, Not sure you could do that.

I expect Desmond & Nicholson have presented Rodgers with a blueprint of where they see Club going,

I am sure pesky things like remuneration and staff would have been dealt with by now.

Rodgers for his part would have put forward his wish list and I feel certain that full control of Footballing matters would have been high on the agenda.

There will be differences right now, I’m sure Desmond will want assurances that there will be no mid Season jumping ship, Rodgers will also have his list, Agents & Lawyers will be involved,

If this much vaunted Head to Head between Desmond & Rodgers actually happens, I reckon the deal will be done.

However as we all know these things can become unstuck, I feel pretty certain that just like Howe & Ange, in this eventuality there is a fall back Manager waiting in the wings.

I’m still puzzled by Paul’s Article, maybe all the red tops have it wrong & it’s only all noise but right now it doesn’t look that way.

  25. Checking in.

Is the Rodgers still just noise?

Feeling very feckin noisy across the spectrum. Let’s just get the right appointment.

Get it done. Like the look of the young Norwegin B2B guy we re on the verge of signing. More of the same please.

    HH

  26. Harald Brattbackk talking about our latest signing.

“He’s from my hometown,” he said. “He’s exciting and he moved from home quite early to Valerenga. He’s been consistently good and he is one of those players who are still young, but also good.

“How well he would fit into a Celtic team I wouldn’t know because I don’t know who the manager is going to be. I would say he is more attacking than defensive. Certainly his work ethic is really good. He runs a lot and is one of those players you don’t see all of time during games, but he is right behind you backing you up or just in front of you taking charge.

“I think he’s been at a good place developing. He is discussed [for potential transfers] every year. He was only 17 when he left and has been three years at Valerenga, I think.

“The manager wanted to play him young, so he’s got quite a few games at a high level. You can see that he has got potential.

“With the likes of him compared to say a Martin Odegaard, maybe he has the same potential, but Odegaard got the potential out when he was 15.

“You could see he would become really good. With Holm, it is a bit different and it is always exciting to see when players move if they are able to reach the next level.

“You would think they have got it, but you don’t know until they try.”

  27. No return of Congerton

No expensive loanees with no chance of buying at the end of the term.

Put Rodgers in charge of the development of players (his sweet spot) & infracstructure and have the scouts work their magic on incoming (to a template of young stars with a sell-on in a few years).

Get Peter Lawell back in his box and leave Nicholson to manage Rodgers.

Excellent lead article from Paul67 IMO. ‘Breaker’ v’s Builder analogy sums it up for me.

Huge red flag if Rodgers comes back…..unless he has undergone a personality transplant.

The only scenario I see Rodgers working without disrupting the structural work started since 2021, is that he informs the club what type of player he requires for his system and the club presents a list of names.

Kinda, like the transfer committee where Rodgers role is that of Head Coach.
