Rogic’s next contract

929

Tom Rogic is well within his rights to take time to consider his next contract.  He is thriving at Celtic, but with a year left on his current deal, the future is open.  Front and centre of his mind, of all players’ minds, will be the dirty little subject.  The money paid to lesser talents than Tom in England is incredible, Tom is well within his rights to ponder his position in the food chain.

Then there is his place in the Celtic squad.  Brendan Rodgers is continually looking to improve the team.  It doesn’t matter who you are, you cannot be sure of a place well into the future.

There are also reasons to consider why Celtic might be a good fit for him.  He is not the archetypal English Premier League player, all physique and running.  Tom is a throwback to not so long ago when craft on the ball got you into the team, not the ability to burst a lung for 90 minutes.  All too often, he’s a 60 minute star.

Evidence is everywhere that he is a big game player and proven match winner, but he is not going to temp a title chasing team from England, instead it would be the bottom half battlers who are most likely to be interested in him.  He’s not a natural fit.  Better to stay with the champions.

  1. Just having a look at the the League table there. We have 8 games left whilst being 12 points clear of Aberdeen who have 8 left and 10 clear of the Huns who have 7 left. So, should we win our home games against Ross County and Dundee we will travel to Hamilton on Sunday 8th April a minimum of 12 and 13 points ahead of AFC/Huns. Prior to the Hamilton match Aberdeen have 3 matches and Huns 2. If the Huns drop 3 points or more and Aberdeen 4 points or more, both scenarios are entirely possible, we could win the League at Hamilton.

The most likely scenario is we will clinch the Title in the first match after the split. Rumour has it the Huns match is planned for the 22nd of April, first match after the split. I cannot see the SPFL going ahead with that. Therefore my prediction is that the Huns will play Aberdeen with Celtic playing at home that weekend. either a Celtic win or either of the other teams failing to win will finish it.

Got to laugh at the daily records pathetic attempts to talk mcleish up “There was no cry of emperor’s new clothing, however, about McLeish’s charges. The manager promised new faces and a new, positive outlook and ultimately he delivered despite his side’s failure to win.”

*aye had tae laugh at that myself, although it should not be forgotten that Costa Rica will be at the WC this summer.

What should be ringing alarm bells though is the U21’s injury time equaliser against Andorra in a European Championship qualifying tie, Andorra FGS which isnae really a country and are bottom of the section with only 2 points scoring only 1 goal, against who, and conceding 16.

The future for Scotland disnae augur well.

  3. G67- Petrie is the next Golden Blazer in waiting, self serving and no interest in taking Scottish football forward ,for the good of the game.

As Chair of the 2011 UEFA Licensing Committee his peg should be on a shoogly nail unless he was duped of course, in which case he should be in favour of the investigation the SPFL requested last September. It would provide opportunity to clear himself….. or would it?

  5. AOW,

It’s sad the Rock used to be one of the “in” places to go to.

Traditional suburban pubs are really struggling now and many are going to the wall.

My hound is really missing Loch 27. Used to be a great pit stop for dog walking. What a cheek shutting down , just as she had been pub trained as well. Hopefully somebody will buy it as its sometimes too far to stagger back from Inn Deep.

I guess the question would be did he do all that off his own bat or was he being “coached”?

  7. I was in The Rock before Christmas, it wasn’t particularly busy and a it is run down. I remember thinking at the time, with some serious investment the potential is endless. It is great location and has plenty of space with a nice south facing facade for outdoor seating. Buy it, flatten it and start again. Maybe even build up the way, a hotel/bar/restaurant type project.

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

Auldheid- Petrie has stated it’s time to move on, he wouldn’t have something to hide ,would he?

  9. Guys sad to say, but the Sotland football team is a busted flush.

SFA are cheats always have been always will be. Plain and simple.

There is no appetite to clean this corrupt organisation from within.

The majority of the office bearers are cheating, selfish individuals.

    Sad but true

    :)

  10. Just like to wish the Sons of the Rock good luck today, I would hazard a guess that our latest octogenarian will be cheering them as he spent a season there on loan when it was a Celtic minded club, former Celts Johnny Bonnar and Alec Rollo were also there around that time as was another young Maryhill (Harp) based Celt Dunky MacKay on loan tae. We also were the opposition when they switched on their floodlights in what is still known 60 or so years later as the “Charlie Tully Show”.

As a young lhad and not allowed tae travel tae Parkheid without an adult I spent my Saturdays either at the Millburn watching the Vale of Leven Juniors or Boagheid tae see Dumbarton. This was around the time the Sons had a very good side and got tae the quarters of the SC beating Motherwell and Queen of the South both away enroute , unfortunately they lost tae a Willie McNaught led Raith 0-4.

Boagheid was in the Silverton area of Dumbarton where my da was brought up. I recall asking my mother tae buy me a Dumbarton scarf, black and gold, that was the colour of Knoxland School the deadly rivals of my da’s primary wee St Pats, as it was known.

Nae chance, that was definitely a bridge too far.

So change will have to come from external pressure something I hope the CST were able to consider at the AGM.

It is a scientific fact that the sharper the knife the more pressure it can exert to cut.

The Celtic support organisations if united on the common cause of SFA reform would exert much more pressure as a united front than each acting or not acting on their own.

A point I’m hoping was covered at the CST AGM to form such a coalition. A bit like they did on opposing the OBAF.

  12. Bada Bing

As truly independent observer based on evidence would be more likely conclude that the SFA Licensing process is more inclined to find ways around the rules than actually imposing them.

That comes from the top and Petrie was at the top of that group in 2011.

He should be very interested in what the Comp Off finds. Covering up the evidence is a non starter. Criminality may be involved and the Comp Off cannot risk being part of it.

The future integrity of our game depends on proper licensing with clubs observing the conditions and if they are in breach being given clear instructions on how each can conform with time to do so.

Has anyone at SFA ever said to Rangers – you have x months/a year to assure other clubs you are operating on a sustainable basis or no licence.

    If not, why not?

  13. AULDHEID on 24TH MARCH 2018 1:39 PM

I agree totally. If change will not come from within it must be forced upon them.

It will be a monumental task, one that I am sure you Res12 guys are more than capable of.

Hail Hail and keep up the good work

    :)

  14. David 66

Res12 guys will play their part but we need a bigger platform in order to be heard more widely.

A coalition of groups would provide that as FAC has shown.

  15. BADA BING!! on 24TH MARCH 2018 1:51 PM

BADA BING, I watched a bit of last nights game as my grandson was up staying with us and he was crap. McBurnie that is not my grandson :)

Are you saying he got MOTM?

If so ffs… By the way the only 2 players that would get pass marks came on as subs, yes SA and CMcG.. The rest were pish.

  17. Regan, McKinlay, Broadfoot. There is a line in scripture that says something on the lines of if you see the fig trees blossom, you know summer is on the way.

Or was it when the leaves brown and some fall you know winter is coming?

D66- i watched game in the pub, i’m sure he got some award when interviewed after the game…..

  19. Seems Scotland’s one shining light was Robertson.

No surprise there as he is a good professional.

Also as he is the chosen method to force KT to have to play out of position he will be praised to the hilt by the mssm no matter his level of performance.

We should take note that he was still picked over KT in that slot when he couldn’t.t get near the Liverpool starting eleven.

His brilliance will only be surpassed when McCrorie gets a Scotland shirt.

Thank the stars Windass is English.

Robertson is a good player. Gets forward well and puts in really good crosses. Wouldn’t swap him for Tierney as Kieran is better defensively.

You could probably get them both in in a 3-5-2, maybe with Patterson on the other side and Forrest up front.

  22. Hamiltonhilltim,How can I post a e mail to the secretary,Is it still Marie,I have to tell her about my new Email Address ,and Mobile Number, thanks.

  23. FAN-A-TIC on 24TH MARCH 2018 2:07 PM

I actually forgot about Robertson, he did play quite well.

With regard forcing KT out of position, it should never happen, but probably will.

Could Robertson not play 1 forward on left side in a more attacking role, and KT at left back or wing back.

McLeish praising himself for keeping Villa in the premier league.

Now mentions winning the league cup. You’d almost think this was scripted!

Again “forgets” to mention the two relegations. McLaughlin also “forgets”.

  27. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I suffered the first fifteen minutes of the Costa Rica game.

Apart from the goalie, and Robertson and Mulgrew, I couldn’t safely identify another Scottish player.

I noticed a waif-like figure running around like a headless chicken.

It turned out that he was called Mc.Burnie. A poor man’s, very poor man’s. Jamie Vardy look-a-like, but not play-a-like.

I couldn’t stick it any longer and turned over to watch Germany v Spain, who, at first glance, were playing a game which, on the surface, look similar to what was going on at Hampden.

It turns out that it was football they were playing.

  28. Seeing as it’s quiet in here I had a look through deadCo media, they are drawing up a 5 man managerial shortlist, deluded doesn’t cover it
