Rogic’s next contract

929

Tom Rogic is well within his rights to take time to consider his next contract.  He is thriving at Celtic, but with a year left on his current deal, the future is open.  Front and centre of his mind, of all players’ minds, will be the dirty little subject.  The money paid to lesser talents than Tom in England is incredible, Tom is well within his rights to ponder his position in the food chain.

Then there is his place in the Celtic squad.  Brendan Rodgers is continually looking to improve the team.  It doesn’t matter who you are, you cannot be sure of a place well into the future.

There are also reasons to consider why Celtic might be a good fit for him.  He is not the archetypal English Premier League player, all physique and running.  Tom is a throwback to not so long ago when craft on the ball got you into the team, not the ability to burst a lung for 90 minutes.  All too often, he’s a 60 minute star.

Evidence is everywhere that he is a big game player and proven match winner, but he is not going to temp a title chasing team from England, instead it would be the bottom half battlers who are most likely to be interested in him.  He’s not a natural fit.  Better to stay with the champions.

  1. GLASSTWOTHIRDSFULL

I agree Robertson is a good player and have no problem with his selection.

If the huns had a left back rated as one of Europe’s best by UEFA would the mssm so readily accept him being moved position to accommodate a guy who at that time was a Liverpool reserve?

There is history with Scotland and this as a player widely regarded as the world’s best in his position was moved to allow the mediocre Jardine to play in his preferred position.

I like Robertson though he is suspect defensively but the circumstances stink.

  2. Apologies to all for another boring semi-final ticket rant but I tried to send the email below to JPT our supporter liaison officer but he is unavailable till Wed 28th March. So as I’m really hacked off you poor guys have to suffer….there is a genuine question at the end of the email and if anyone on the board can give me an answer it would help give my poor wife a break from my ranting, she said she can’t suffer until JPT’s return on Wednesday.

    Hi John-Paul,

I’ve had a few dealings with you in the past and been impressed with your impressive level of customer service.

I was in the ticket office yesterday thinking it was a formality to pick up our semi-final tickets. I was given the sold out news by the girl on the desk and was absolutely astounded. An older gent was in front of me and was told the same, he asked to speak to a manager. I asked if I could also join in this conversation.

A girl called Angela appeared at the window and was instantly on the defensive, I presume we were not the first customers that day to request some answers from her.

I simply asked for numbers to understand why this had sold out so quickly as opposed to previous Hampden encounters. I have been on the HCTS since inception and was at all 3 qualifying games as was the older gent beside me.

I received a text at 12.48pm on Wednesday. I was in no position to get online or attend the office to purchase tickets so presumed I would be fine to go down the next day. The older gent was informed the tickets were on sale by his daughter telling him that something had been in the paper that tickets were released. Angela kindly informed us that it was announced on the internet and tickets had been available the day before from 9am.

It must be great for people who can drop everything and get online or straight to the ticket office. I’m presuming no-one in these decision making roles have any regards for supporters who work shifts such as NHS staff, firefighters etc and most ironic of all, a lot of education staff who are qualifying season ticket holders and were obviously delighted with a 9.07am internet announcement that it’s first come first served. Can you please explain the rationale behind this decision and why anyone think’s it’s appropriate given the obvious flaws I am highlighting.

This is absolutely disgraceful way to treat customers who fulfilled all the qualifying criteria.

The older gent who was extremely polite in the situation said “ I don’t have the internet hen” her reply is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard from someone who is manager material in such a customer facing role….she actually replied to the gent with “it was all over twitter too” hopefully you can understand why I laughed at this reply.

Angela accused myself and the other gent of shouting, we didn’t, and of calling her a liar, we didn’t. She was looking for any excuse to get out of the situation because she knew she was fighting a losing battle. I was told to write to Celtic to request numbers so here goes.

By the way I asked Angela how many were available from her ticket office and she didn’t know, which I found remarkable from a manager.

    1. What was Celtics allocation from the SFA

    2. How many went to corporate/hospitality ticket holders.

    3. How many were available online with an absurd £7 delivery fee along with the £1.50 booking charge.

    4. How many were available from the ticket office.

    5. How many people are on the home ticket scheme and fulfilled all criteria?

The reason I ask the last question is that I was told yesterday that 22,500 are on it, if so why was the attendance at the Morton game announced as 18,200 and around 3000 of those attending were Morton fans.

Qualifying criteria for semi final was attendance at all 3 games. If you automatically take ticket money from 22,500 people were Morton compensated with a split from a 25,500 crowd or a 18,200 crowd. It would be interesting to ask them.

I look forward to your reply.

    Regards

  3. I see that Costa Rica were 3/1 last night and quite a few people cashed in on that price.

Anyone know the price for Hungary during the week???

  4. Only saw short clips of Scothun game.

Robertson defending was shocking in the clip I saw, with him flapping to the wrong side of attacker down the left at the bye line. It was like watching nursery level football.

  5. Andy Robertson didn’t have his best game last night, he did well at times but who could blame him? Going from Liverpool to that lot would throw anyone off their game. There isn’t much in it between him and KT, both are superb.

  6. Btw did anyone notice how many fouls John McGinn committed during his short time on the pitch? He wouldn’t get away with it in a Celtic shirt and certainly not in Europe.

  7. Happy Birthday to our resident dj/photo poster Roy Croppie and not forgetting his lovely daughter Lucy who shares his big day.

  8. Guys, is it true that even friendly games count toward a country’s co-efficient and or world place rankings.

In other words the more players you try out “as its only a friendly” in lots of friendlys and get beat, the more you will slip down the world rankings??

On the back of this the mentality is you are crap, and psychologicaly it is at the back of whatever players you put on the park.

Surely if it is true about friendlys counting toward rankings, then it’s in your advantage to win these games not to keep trying out different players and systems??

I know this is probably over simplifying things.

  9. MOONBEAMSWD

Robertson has good offensive qualities but is defensively lacking.

Like i said in earlier post he will be praised to the hilt by mssm no matter how he plays as he has been chosen to stop KT playing in his rightful position.

Just like the did to Daniel Fergus McGrain who as the worlds best in his position was moved to allow a diddy hun to play where he preferred.

  10. DAVID17 on 24TH MARCH 2018 2:46 PM

Spot on about Robertson last night.

KT IMO is a better all round player though.

Robertson v Tierney is like when we had Pat Crerand, we thought he was very good and he was.

However, when Bobby Murdoch came along, the standard soared.

Yes – friendlies do count for rankings. The MSM have to spin the defeat as not mattering. If Scotland had won it would have been hailed as a great triumph!

  14. Greetings from Dumbreck, which as some of you will know is within water siphoning distance of Ayebrokes. Call me an old cynic but I thought the timing of this legneds game was kind of close to the end of this month if you get my meaning. Well I think ole Glibby may be a bit disappointed with the takings because there were virtually no cars parked around my gaff and only a handful of zombies trekking towards Zombieland at half two when I was driving back from my wasted trip to Hamilton (ticket office was closed).

    Nae wurrrrld recurds then ;-)

  15. come on the sons today.

Always had a soft spot for Dumbarton.

Even though when I played for them for a short stint in the reserves in early 80s I had the mis- fortune of meeting Mr Davie Wilson, now he was a DOB..

  16. Lifted directly from the sevco website (but may have been awe_nawed during the transfer).

Ally McCoist, Barry Ferguson, Lorenzo Amoruso, Michael Mols, Andy Goram and Jorg Albertz are just some of the legneds who have signed up to play and Ayebrokes is sure to be packed to the rafters with fans not wanting to miss the opportunity to be fleeced once again as they watch some of the finest Tax dodgers and cheats ever to feature for rankers pull on the light blue jersey.  Ian Durrant and Mark Hateley are also looking forward to taking the piss from the dug-outs.

  21. Hungary lost 3.2 at home to Kazakhstan last night, so they are obviously not any great shakes either.

However they did beat Costa Rica 1.0 in November.

I was laughing at how bad that McBurnie was no skill whatsoever.

His second touch was a tackle. Whoever said doo without a heid is correct.

That’s staggering if he got MOM.

    Wee Gamboa was my MOM.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, I don’t like what games v “Rangers” can bring out in me so I’ve not attended one since 1964ish.

However from what you say and bringing my old work experience to bear there appears to be a hole in whatever customers services software Celtic use to provide what it says on the tin.

Had the customer services had 4 markers as in.

    1. Is supporter a member of the Home Scheme?

    2. Does he qualify for precedence? (And here you need a tracking subset to check the rules)

    3. Does he have an e mail address?

    4. If not what is his address?

Armed with such info non Internet users get a letter in advance saying when they can collect and Internet Users get an e mail later.

I’m not sure just how much of an alignment exists between Celtic’s IT systems and Customer needs but there should be a strategy to identify gaps or areas for improvement and put systems in place to meet. If not IT ones, then paper ones until IT meets the needs.

If you mention this to JPT he will recognise the source and the well meaning of the point.

Since we are cash rich I think alignment of IT and supporter needs is an investment that would pay hard dividends.

  23. My pal Tommy wrote this song about a pal of his he met in London and sadly passed away last year

He was born in Ireland and stowed away to England before the 2nd world war when he was 14, ended up joining the army just to get fed became an Alcoholic and came out the other side to help others fascinating life in my opinion.
