Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

  1. Far too many armchair warriors on here for this bear!

Throwing about accusations of “touts”, people being “spineless” and “gutless”!

    As laughable as it gets!

At the end of the day, this is football that we are talking about, despite what some think it is not really that important in the grand scheme of things.

Like i said. Plenty on here condone the cheating by the SFA/HUNS, but are offended by a banner.

How come they are not outraged by the blatant cheating, yet a banner drives them doolally?

  3. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Last night we hosted a social underclass.

Heel draggers (and knuckle draggers) who spew filth and drape themselves in an anachronistic flag without realising that Sean and Sinead went to University and got good jobs while Sammy and Arlene continued to build bonfires and go on marches.

A bunch of rebels without a completion date dragged us down to Linfield’s level.

Want to indulge in this stuff at Celtic games?

Fine by me – just have the courage of your convictions, give your names and addresses to the media and deal with the fall out (reputational and financial) instead of leaving it to our club to clean up your mess.

    Alternatively, just rise above up?

    Hail hail

I would imagine we’ve been charged for the paramilitary banner next to the Brendan at work banner. I doubt the Brendan banner would be deemed illicit on it’s own. The GB put both up together and brought Brendan into it.

The Paddy McCourt Celtic View cover is just a danger sign (standard British road sign?) with Paddy McCourt in the middle, you would have to ask the editor if he or she meant more to it. Regardless, it doesn’t act as an excuse for last nights display and neither does any other issue such as the ongoing fallout from the Supreme Court decision etc.

I see the Pensioners Brigade are still up in arms. Rather faulty memories some of them have when it comes to singing songs. But they have nothing whatsoever to say about the SFA/HUNs cheating Celtic. Silent about that, but they dont like banners, oh no. But cheating is fine, they will go along with that.

    Talk about two-faced.

Anything else you want to call Celtic supporters?

You complain about a banner, yet condone and take part in a rigged league.

I will have no lecturing from people who cant call out cheating, but are bothered by banners.

  9. I wonder how many of the Green Brigade who were able voted for the Independence of this ” wee bigoted country” Celtic are part of? Imo, a lot of good young lhads are being manipulated on occasion by far left folk, who don’t care if they undermine Celtic Football Club in achieving some spurious political gain.

  10. Parkhead

Like many who consider themselves on the political left, I would imagine that loads of GB would have voted for independence. It was not for nothing that the nationalists went heavy hammer on decrying those against independence as being “unionists” , seeking to Ulsterise the independence debate. Though I also believe that a number of them have had their eyes opened to the true authoritarian nature of the SNP by their persecution under the OBFA.

    Top post .

Celtic fc means different things to different supporters . As for Celtic PLC ? Money or principles will soon be the elephant in the room .

A room filled with suits that dictate the rules ( or lack of rules ) for Scottish football .

I hope they are smarter than The Green Brigade were last night .

Whether you disagree that much about UEFA rules and regulations , nobody complained when they handed us millions for qualifying or did I miss something . It’s their party . It’s their rules . Abide or ……..

  16. Collateral damage from the GB display may well come from the way the MSSM will treat any banner they create to promote the Strip The Titles view.

I know the MSSM would find a way to ridicule the notion anyway but we should not be making it easier for them.

I hope the above are my only words on this subject. We really should be talking positively of Celtic in these amazing times. If you want to criticise the Board then contact them and ask for answers. Letting off steam on here plays into the hands of those who would applaud our demise.

Just got my ticket for the Rosenborg game and I am looking forward to it already as I had to miss last night`s game.

  18. I firmly believe the Green Brigade may as well go all-in for the Rosenborg game and give us a banner of King Billy – with a surprised look on his face and a finger perched on his wee goatee cleft – getting royally horsed (see what I did there, monarchy & equestrian fans?) by his big white rampant steed.

Add the tagline: ‘Eventually the Tables Get Turned #stripthetitles’ for sinister effect and let the fun commence.

Love to see that one covered nationally and internationally by the SMSM Huns.

Of course you knew that the reference to “bear” was an attempt at humour because you learned that at whatever place of learning you graced with your presence.

Perhaps you can share with all us less committed and no doubt therefore, less worthy individuals,

All the banner experts. Did we see you on CQN complaining about the racist abuse Scott Sinclair is subject to?

Did we hear you complain about Celtic supporters violently attacked in the Gallowgate by Ajax Huns?

And have we heard any complaints about how the league is rigged by the SFA/Huns?

Or is it just banners and Celtic supporters that you are concerned with?

Did anyone stop to think that the GB want to encourage debate by their passive demonstrations? That and embarrassing the suits of the Plc with their chums in UEFA.

I see the usual right wing suspects and Unionists are now seeking to assuage the damage to their consciences by demonising the GB.

In my experience many of these individuals are primarily motivated by the contents of their sporrans rather than any ideological integrity. :)

IMHO the banner argument is a sign that the jobs worth in Nyon who were placed by the Hampden huns are out to impose their bland version of supporting on us by repressing our historical roots.

They ignore Chelsea (yes right) fans rioting in Manchester, bottles being thrown in Belfast and a decade of cheating from down river.

    Why? The answer is obvious.

The grey green brigade bring colour and yes controversy to Celtic Park but it would be a dull place without them.

They should have been banned from Celtic Park for throwing bottles and coins at a Celtic player.

But the PLC and the pensioners would rather see Celtic supporters banned.
