Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

Where were the GB last Friday night?

Were they in Windsor Park in loyalist east Belfast with their drums and banners?

Or were they safely ensconced in their secret wee bunker dreaming up last nights great wee whiz?

Those involved in the Republican Movement, men and women have my deepest admiration and respect. Their courage and dedication to their cause should not be reduced to a schoolboy prank and plastic flag. The overwhelming majority of them have also tried to move on and leave the Troubles in the past, while paying their respects to fallen comrades at the appropriate time and place. A football stadium is not the time nor the place for such displays.

The arrogance of these misguided eejits is staggering, if they think that somehow they are the true conscience of CFC.

Shocking in Mostar last night for the Dons fans.

Not a part of the world you want to be in when it kicks off.

Was trouble when Celtic last played there, not with the Celtic fans, but between the locals and the Partizan Belgrade supporters.

Celtic board have behaved like total gobshites these past lot of weeks.

Far too quick to condemn our supporters over minor misdemeanours and constantly pandering to our detractors.

    Incredulous, nonsensical statement.

None of the allegations about the banners would stand up in a court of law, yet they hastily release a statement basically stating the GB are guilty of the zombie accusations.

Somebody wearing a hat and a pair of sunglasses is a paramilitary all of sudden?

Could be anyone on holiday ffs.

All road signs are now connected to the Ra?

Or you could try and organise a banner highlighting the cheating issue, instead of waiting for some other group of Celtic supporters to carry out your wishes. I have no doubt the GB will produce banners which address the cheating, I do have doubts though about the PLC allowing it.

  12. Evening

Still hacked off after last night. Disagree with much that has been said here and personally am fed up with ‘this kind of thing’. Last night was an obnoxious evening although it was the singing that grated with me. Personal opinion.

Strange though to read its all down to the uni crowd. Most of the Green Brigade look to me to be about 12. I was never at Uni myself though I did see Blondie, Magazine and the Jam play in a variety of student unions when I was sugned by cleverer pals.

I see the Pensioners Brigade are still up in arms. Rather faulty memories some of them have when it comes to singing songs. But they have nothing whatsoever to say about the SFA/HUNs cheating Celtic. Silent about that, but they dont like banners, oh no. But cheating is fine, they will go along with that.

    Talk about two-faced.

Anything else you want to call Celtic supporters?

Delaney’s, i never traveled on the Uni bus to Ekeren but did go with a number of ex Uni bus members.

We travelled on the sleeper down to Euston, met the former uni bus members there (they then lived and worked in London. We got the train from Victoria to Dover , then the ferry to Ostende and onward to Brussels .

It was my favourite trip abroad to see the Bhoys . When we got to Antwerp on the day of the game , I bumped into Gal . He told me the Royal Antwerp fans had been out causing some bother with Celtic supporters the night before.

You are correct, the majority of Official GB are University educated and are in jobs that Catholics were excluded from when we were young. Political thinkers and movers. The future is bright.

  23. The reason I call the board spineless is for a few reasons.

They have accepted the charges from last night with a whimper, a half wit hun could contest them and get the club off with them.

I noticed mention of the Brendan banner earlier, maybes the GB shouldn’t have used him in this way, but the club have used the same banner on their publications before, albeit they had Paddy McCourt instead of Brendan.

200 zombies email UEFA, complaining about ambiguous banner.

That’s up to UEFA to invistigate, then to prove if the allegation is true – they could well decide that it was illicit, but they won’t be able to prove it, because it’s impossible.

They don’t need to now though, the club has already done that for them.

  25. FOLLOWING Wednesday night’s European tie at Celtic Park against Linfield, Celtic Football Club have issued the following statement.

Any support for a paramilitary or proscribed terrorist organisation has no place at Celtic Park. The Club has been consistent in condemning such conduct on the very few occasions in the past when it has occurred at Celtic Park. It is unfortunate that such a small minority of the crowd at Celtic Park last night behaved in such a way.

We know that the Celtic support will join us in condemning such behaviour. Events last night have resulted in charges from UEFA in relation to the paramilitary banners and unsafe behaviour in a section of the Celtic support. The Club has commenced an inquiry and will take appropriate action.

The burden of proof lay with those feckless feckwits at UEFA – prompted by the bitter goat-pumpers from this country who had emailed in their complaints.

Celtic FC – brimming with collaborators.

In one statement, your answer to the official Celtic appetite for title stripping and any measure of justice.

A statement guaranteed one thing- for some to rise a few degrees in the craft.

So the GB took the club’s advice not to travel to Belfast but won’t take their advice over getting the club in to trouble with UEFA?

That smacks to me as being hypocritical at best and cowardly at worst!

To now suggest that the Provo banner wasn’t really about the Provos is as bad. A sign of maturity is being able to own up to your mistakes. The Provisionals never hid behind anyone and claimed responsibility for things that went wrong. The GB really do need to learn the history if they want to be taken seriously.

Hopefully the Plc’s enthusiasm for plain talking in statements continues in the forthcoming weeks. I’m not holding my breath however.

The banana skin of Linfield has been successfully negotiated. The Plc possibly feared a trap in the Belfast feature and didn’t take tickets. That decision left quite a few folk here feeling like second class citizens and that Celtic Plc, puts the CL financial bonanza before the Irish support?

Linfield asked for 1,500 tickets to Celtic Park. And duly drank their way over and belted out their redundant party songs. No doubt the owners of the Louden Tavern(s) were at the Night Safes last night depositing plenty of Northern Irish sterling as a “Result” too!!

Glasgow’s Policemen and women earned a few bob too and helped out their brethren by hiring a few mini-buses. No doubt there was a large UEFA presence at the game too.

The GB did what Ultras do and held up banners, which played into the hands of the Level Skivers. One in particular of BR was unwise. It was just too big a temptation for the GB to resist whatever their motivations.

The UEFA have now charged Celtic and in the world of UEFA a charge is a conviction. All we are waiting for now is the penalty. The Level Skivers can put the boot in (not that they were going to run any #Strip The Titles stories any way). The right wingers on here will no doubt be hoping a hefty punishment and lifetime bans for the delinquents with the banners.

Thankfully as far as I am aware the game passed by peacefully?

It’s pretty telling that in many ways the Six Counties appears to be moving on and possibly some of the posts from supporters in that area reflects that (on the assumption that the posts are genuine). That’s good.

Quite possibly the money which sustains Scottish football will be less forthcoming from the 32 counties if the powers that be continue to allow cheating and biased administration of the game for the sake of the handy earner that the (deceased) ‘Old Firm’ provides.

The Sevco Board, SFA, SPFL are outdated, inefficient outfits that are not fit for purpose. Lets hope that Celtic Plc can help save Scottish football by ensuring that a review happens and change occurs.

Having spent the last few days in Scotland and having met a few Sevco supporters, I’m convinced that they are unwell. Sick with denial, hatred, bigotry and lies. Their world has caved in. The ‘world’s must successful football club’ died and has also been exposed by the courts as a liar and a thief. It’s Directors are/were charlatans and fraudulent.

Ireland is changing lads, fewer people identify with the past. Many have built bridges and don’t look back.

July the 12th comes and goes here on the Boyne and it’s just another day. I didn’t meet one person last Wednesday who noticed that it was the ’12th.’

Having said that it’s great to celebrate Irish culture at Celtic Park and some folk would be better off watching cyclists riding round and round the Chris Hoy Velodrome than going to Celtic Park and then endlessly criticising the support.
