Scottish Government’s confusing policy relents

275

My appetite for circulating in public diminished after hearing news of how the virus has taken hold in several towns across the country.  Public health always comes first, with the consequences of the economy and children’s education following closely.  Nothing else really matters.

Despite that, we have to learn how to navigate our lives through this and news that 300 people will attend Ross County – Celtic and Aberdeen – Kilmarnock on Saturday is very welcome.  Not much will be learned from such a low number, perhaps only that the temperature measuring equipment used works (it has already been tested in greater numbers, it works), but it feels significant that the Scottish Government acknowledge that controlled trials of any activity is necessary and responsible behaviour.

And be clear: despite being practically the last activity permitted, the health risks of socially distanced, well policed, outdoor gatherings is negligible to zero.  Pubs reopened for indoor custom in Scotland eight weeks ago, without police oversight or any prior trials.

Now that the concept of holding trials has been agreed, the next step must be to hold meaningful trials, when we will learn how efficiently thousands of fans filter through entry systems.  Who knows, maybe taking fans out of the pub to an outdoor stadium to watch the game will slow the virus.  If only the world’s entire scientific community would speak clearly that indoor meetings are more dangerous than outdoor, the Scottish Government’s Indoor Pubs First, Outdoor Football Last policy would be less confusing.  Not that policy from London is any better; I’m beginning to think the SNP’s strategy of shadowing Boris Johnson’s government on Corona planning is not such a great idea.

The main reason that the death rate from Covid-19 has been lower in late June/July/August than in April/May/early June is because of the restrictions in social contact.

The restrictions cut down the opportunities for the coronavirus to jump from person to person.

Result was less of the more vulnerable groups being infected and, hence, less people being admitted to hospital with severe symptoms, and less dying.

The time to tighten restrictions was when infections were at their lowest – there was a chance to, at least temporarilly, eradicate the virus from Scotland (albeit cross-border and international travel would have to be tightly controlled thereafter).

Exactly the wrong thing to do was to get to a relatively good position and proceed to release the virus into the community again through ill-considered ‘relaxations’.

We aren’t at square one again, but we have managed to create a problem that could have been lessened by better decision making – specifically (seemingly) falling in with the lead provided by Westminster.

  9. Since some are still spouting the MSM narrative, here are a few facts that they don’t tell you.

    9th Sept 2020

We have had a Flu vaccine for over 70 years and the Flu deaths rise year on year, per capita of course.

There is NOT and there is NO prospect of a vaccine, info from the Lancet and other American medical journals, for a virus that can be killed by simple hand washing, yet folks are screaming out for one, one that is getting churned out by the billion as I type this, and you are gonna get it believe me.

The CDC, where all the health info comes from in the US have stated in the last week that only 6% of the deaths attributed to Covid-19 were actually solely Covid 19 related, the other 94% of deaths, the unfortunate people had at least one other underlying health issue, they have revised the actual C-19 death rate to less than 10.000, they have also confirmed on their site that C-19 test results were 90% false positive.

The Italian government have stated that over 90% of their recorded C-19 deaths were people who were over eighty years old and over 99% had at least one other health issue, there is no face mask wearing in Italy BTW, they don’t see the point and they have no spike in so called “cases”

World wide specific mass gatherings are permitted by the powers that B, obviously they know that the virus is intelligent enough not to target the permitted gatherings, while other gatherings that are not permitted the virus will attack, so will the police, as smart as eggs this virus so it is.

Kinda proves that this social distancing is complete and utter bollix.

In England alone there are over 10.000 deaths every month in care homes that are totally unrelated to C-19, I was astounded at that figure, but it came from the mouth of Matt Hancock at one of the daily C-19 briefings, he was a tad conservative BTW, it’s actually higher, can you imagine the fear if they were to show all those coffins on the news day in day out, this is only in care homes and not allowing for folks who die in their own homes, hospices and hospitals, it’s little wonder that the funeral industry is a cartel.

They started selling Covid-19 testing kits in 2017, and initially sold over seventeen million of them, the info can be found on the WITS website, seems like they knew something was in the pipeline.

The survival rate for anyone who is unfortunate enough to catch this virus is over 99%

As ever I challenge anyone to dispute these facts and provide me with any info, even government info as it’s all government info that I have provided, that will contradict what I have written.

A vascular surgeon that I spoke to today was apoplectic that they were shutting down the health system, his words, this is in Spain, some are attempting to speak out and have been told that their jobs will be gone if they do, he still intends to speak out, has tried and so far is being ignored by the MSM and hopes he will get a job in the private sector when he gets fired, it’s that bad.

And like GP says, draw your own conclusions, the info is out there if you look for it, but places like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram etc take down anything that goes against the MSM narrative so you have to look a wee bit deeper to find out things, real government info that they know the majority will not bother their arse looking for.

    Now an opinion…….

There does sem to be marked variation in flu deaths year-on-year but, as the variance is between a low of 0.1% and a high of 0.2%, it can be difficult to see this. Especially since flu deaths are also not always categorised as such. Here’s what a fact-check site says:-

“The WHO estimates that between 290,000 and 650,000 respiratory deaths globally each year are associated with seasonal influenza.

Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19. Public Health England does not publish a mortality rate for the flu.

The USA’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does publish estimates of the number of flu cases annually, including estimates for the number of hospitalisations and the number of deaths. The number of cases has ranged from nine million to 45 million a year, and the number of deaths ranged from 12,000 to 61,000. These figures suggest that over the past decade in the United States, the percentage of flu cases that resulted in hospitalisation has consistently been between 1% and 2%, and the percentage of cases that resulted in death has been between 0.1% and 0.2%.”

Lockdown will be killing loads maybe even more than than the virus .

All the folk that couldn’t get treatment for cancer ,heart disease , etc etc.

Then people made ill from living in fear and stress for many months .

The women locked up with psychopathic wifebeaters. Suicides have risen , through mental health and livelihoods being destroyed .

Its going to take years for Scotland to recover . It will never be the same place that it was. There have sadly been deaths but nothing like the scale that was predicted. I listened to highly qualified doctors and professors saying that the there should not have been a lockdown and most restrictions were not needed . And now we are getting numbers of CASES ,many of these are not even ill and they dont go to hospital and they are not dying. These cases dont require new lockdowns . The virus is everywhere now and its way past its peak. Governments and media should and will be held to account . Why has it been done . Easy to find out with research. We really really got to wake up .

My thoughts are we should have pushed active suppression to the max to deliver local eradication.

I think that the SG got lucky with the lockdown timing — 2 weeks too late for London but two days late for Glasgow — but they have thrown away our position of strength.

We had 6-8 weeks to really push for local eradication — Late June in early August.

However we did what we have done throughout the outbreak — took the easy option and went passive.

We are not an ope society — Nike …

We cleared the hospitals and to hell with the consequences.

We have tested only as a last resort.

Self isolation is just DIY government.

The holiday quarantine episode is just institutional laziness.

Where are the fever hospitals / the CoViD wards / the active quarantining / the health ninjas?

Instead we have the Ambulance Service taking over the mobile testing from the Army.

The Army did the swabbing — the SAS hand you a pack through a car window and tell you to get on with it. The story of the Scottish response to the virus — not our finest hour.

Regarding the politics — Sturgeon has been let down by the civil service / health bureaucracy. Box tickers / pole climbers / powerpoint warriors / PR experst …

At a UK level — they have been happy to spend big money so that you sit in the house but spent little to boost the medical capacity of the nation. Huge PPE orders to their pals is as good as it gets regarding equipment.

Not sure where we go from here — the holidays have broken even the good countries.

Local eradication looks just about impossible now and that means no real crowds at CP.

Things are so bad now that BoJo is saying moonshot in public.

Interesting mix of the strange / the puzzling / the challenging and total tripe.

Base point in your mish mash is who gains from this?

WITS has had its stuff fact checked and the stuff you highlight was first developed for other uses and has now been re-purposed as CoViD19 critical — consequently it was as you say on sale in 2017 just a case that the disease was not CoViD19.

Impact of CoViD19 = 60K excess deaths in the UK — March to June.

And that number is an undercount as other deaths are well below average now that the CoViD19 element is down to single figures.

Care homes — you seem to have missed a lot of heartbreak and suffering.

Flu deaths — big number but without hand washing / social distancing and masks.

Flu 2021 — lowest number in 20 years is a given.

Not sure where you got this from but your analysis does not stand up to any level of scrutiny. Golf club saloon bar pontificating at best.

  16. TET @ 10.37

  19. TET @ the edge of reason

You have spouted a number of “facts” in your ramblings but they are all cathedrals in the desert regarding providing a cohesive picture never mind a full picture.

Most people over 80 have something wrong with them.

Most people over 80 will see their 90th birthday.

Most people over 80 who got CoViD died withing 6 weeks — losing out on a further 5 or 6 years of life.

What you have written about is flannel put out by people with an active interest in dimishing the severity of the CoViD19 outbreak.

You are correct lots of people die in care homes — average time in a care home is under 3 years possibly less than 2 and a half years.

So the death rate is high — 3% a month at a guess.

Just a case that 26 patients / 30% of the beds dying in the space of 4 weeks breaks all known records. This was in May so not prime flu weather.

You do yourself a disservice regurgitating all this nonsense.

It does strike me as odd to be called out as unbecoming by someone who posted “that was a pile of pish!’

As I said it was insult not argument or refutation.

And, there was no high horse involved as have been guilty of the same offence on more than several occasions.

  21. MADMITCH

In the last weeks hardly any deaths and other European countries the same. The peaks past. Loads of highly qualified doctors saying but not being given any media coverage . The cases are just due to loads of testing. The positives a mostly not even ill . And the the negatives can sigh with relief – until they come into contact with someone else.
