Scottish Greens football fantasy

192

I see the Scottish Greens have decided it is a poor decision to allow fans to congregate in pubs to watch football.  Their proposal is to allow Saturday’s fixture from Celtic Park to be free to air on TV, despite, you know, all the contracts and stuff.

There is not a shred of self-awareness with the crowd.  The Greens hold the balance of power in the Scottish Parliament, the SNP depend on them to pass legislation, in return for which they get nominal nods to their pet projects.

The Greens have no levers of control over TV contracts, but they exercise unique influence over the Scottish Government, whose policy it has been for months for football fans to congregate at indoor pubs instead of socially distanced and policed at open-air stadiums.

This reminds me of Life of Brian, the People’s Front were full of plans that would achieve nothing and refused to take the clear path before then.  Until Brian turned up, of course.  They have become a meme.

  1. Turkeybhoy,

I think that is correct. I’m sure it was getting mentioned on here that following a positive result a person has to quarantine for 10 days.

If you have not tested positive but have been in close contact your quarantine is 14 days.

I think it’s because the average incubation of the virus is around 5 days.

It was a calculated statement on behalf of the SNP based on the premise croppy boy will always lie down whilst an olive branch is offered to der hun waverers. There has been no apology for the insult and nor will there be.

Lot more has gone on at a local level, everyone just got on with it for the greater good. Nicola just broke the camels back. We expect that shite from the Tories not from our own side.

  8. Good morning, friends and a Big Happy Friday Glasgow Derby Eve from a clear skied, wind free, gradually dawning, peaceful East Kilbride. 8 hours of work and then the start of a weekend to remember. I know it’s asking the obvious but we are about to witness the lowest EVER numbers to attend a Celtic v Rangers game. Although as they have only been existence for 8 years then the current record must be around 49,000?

    Have a great day, everyone.

  9. Morning all, I see ‘Christie may play’ headlines splashed across most of the back pages this morning. There seems to be little substance (shock I know) to the reports other than we are hoping to piggyback on Arsenals attempt to have our old bhoy play for them this weekend. For me the issue here, and it’s one I’m currently living, is that there is no checks and balances on ‘close contacts’. Once someone tests positive there word becomes law, anyone they name gets a tap on the shoulder and told to stand down for fourteen days.

  16. On Monday evening Arsene Wenger ‘played’ to a packed audience at the London Palladium as part of a book promotion exercise. Graham Norton did a similar show there a couple of weeks back. Cinemas are open, or at least some of them are. Events are planned at the Royal Albert Hall next month with thousands present. Ergo football is treated differently, ie empty Hampden, empty Wembley and yes empty Celtic Park. Unfortunately Paul, your own comparisons with Germany fell at the first hurdle with your lack of knowledge on the actual rules re local infection rates per 100k, which if applied in Glasgow this weekend would result in an er empty Celtic Park. Still, like the Green Brigade, keep banging that drum. Westminster will debate the issue on November 9, but do not expect that date to compare with Berlin in 1989, not unless you are planning on storming the gates of Paradise that is. That might do it.

  17. I have a gut feeling that there will be a few goals tomorrow ( that will now mean a 1-0 win or a 0-0 draw ?), and hopefully Celtic at home will play TWO upfront ?

As for Brother Ref Beaton…what will it actually take for the SPFL/SFA to RULE that ANY Officials who openly ( or otherwise) display their “Loyalty” for one side or the other to be BANNED from being the Ref or Assistant etc from Celtic v Huns games ??

I wont be holding my breath for that to happen.

IF any Ref/Assistant does or has shown where his “Loyalties” lie he/she should be nowwhere near these games. I am sure that certain Board Members of certain Clubs are in effect BANNED from Voting at SFA/SPFL Meetings in certain circumstances, due to having a “Vested Interest” in such Votes ?

    What do I know ?

  18. The Sun,stuttering for words at the sheer audacity of the GB to stick posters up all over Glasgow.Gasp, they even stuck one on the home of the Hun.Upon my soul. The jolly old Glaswegian bit of banter regards the traffic cone placed on the statue of some worthy in Queen St,an image now used to promote the city, has now become an act of “Sectarian bigotry” when a Green and White version was plonked onto the head of Billy Boy in Cathedral Sq. Great

Our grateful thanks to the Sun for bringing this to the attention of Tim’s worldwide, giving them a good few moments of mirth. Also for enraging the permaraging even more.

MICK, if you haven’t already seen it try and get a copy of Broony’s DVD from last year, marking his 10 years with us. A truly great viewing, very grounded guy who has bought into us. Still goes back to his Fife village and plays with his kids in the local park he played in. There’s a great early scene when a young Broony dumps Lenny on his jacksie and the look on his coupon says it all. Then, of course, he becomes our captain and, as you say, legend.

    Enjoy tomorrow.
