Serious Treble Threat, material loss

624

Pretty gutted for Inverness keeper Dean Brill, who will miss the Hampden Scottish Cup semi final with a dislocated knee.  We saw enough from the Highlanders on Saturday to know they pose Serious Treble Risk, but you want to beat teams at full strength.

Anyone who tells you Celtic suffered a material loss due to Rangers liquidation is blowing out his bum.  We lost some revenue but we’ve not been in such good shape, financially and on the field, in years.

I I could argue it was the best thing to happen to Celtic in the last 48 years but we’ll have the decades to come to ponder the full impact.

The Memorial Stone for CQNers no longer with us has now been fully funded with circa £500 left over for Mary’s Meals. A humbling effort, well done to all involved, especially TBJ.

Ta for that I will also compose a note and send tonight. Make the point if the Police advise them of their intentions re searches, idiotic traffic control etc then they should be capable of increasing access by opening sections of the gate and manning by the Stewards or Police who frankly do nothing.

  3. The question is would profitability been higher in last 2 years with TRFC as main rivals?

The players wage arms race began with the arrival of SDM at Ibrox , a race which Celtic joined from 2000 to 2004 under Martin O Neil but, unlike RFC, realised it would bankrupt Celtic.

RFC’s response from 2000 remember was to negate the wage differential using EBTS but read all about here in an excellent article on the BBC site that identifies fully the role of SDM in Rangers demise from Feb 2012 2 days after Administration was declared so the author Bernard Ponsonby he must have been preparing the ground…

CL group stages will always be cyclical for clubs like Celtic. 2 out of 3 or 3 out of four seasons would be good.

Its the nature of where we are in the football world to be a selling club and not realistic to expect players to stay who have developed to a point where they can treble their wages.

The trick is in reducing the continuity risks. If you get a good manager at developing talent pay him the big money to stay and keep rebuilding.

Change the season to the Scandinavian model to remove fitness and familiarity risks in July. That also means a different transfer window so no last minute purchases.

Make sure other Scottish clubs get a share of UEFA CL money to encourage them to change seasons. Call it a bribe if you want. We win, they win.

Remember this. If we had the Lisbon Lions equivalent playing for us this season and they won the CL – none of them (bar an aging keeper maybe) would be at Celtic next season.

Its some balancing act but it can be done.

  4. That picture of the supposed New Balance top for 15/16, is IMHO disappointing. To flashy and commercial looking.

Why mess with a jersey that is as striking and iconic as the Hoops?

I can understand teams with solid colours jazzing up their look a bit. With the Hoops it’s just not necessary.

I only took the SKY Sports for Celtic away games, no interest otherwise. Anyway, all binned even though they tried to keep me in.

Abhor the entire SKY thing especially the EPL.

  14. Oneoftheseventy – what’s your take on the second biggest wage bill.in Scottish football not guaranteeing promotion from the second tier of Scottish football?

    Embarrassing? Yep.

Losing a few games in any given season – not really embarrassing.

I reckon you are embarrassed by this year’s football but not for the reasons you give.

Dear CQN please could you set it so that links automatically open in a new window/tab. Then I won’t keep accidentally shutting you down.

    ——-

Not something CQN can resolve. Some browsers you can set it up to do this. Regardless, if you click (press) and hold on a link you should get options pop up, one of which will allow you to open in a new tab.

The acid test is Europe. The pesky foreigners are a level above our domestic chumps. If Stokesy is up front by then, we will know that the CL may be beyond us.
