SFA: officials and administrators out of their depth

297

Don’t mention John Beaton’s name, apparently.  Referees and VARs are not open to scrutiny.  Brendan Rodgers did not say Beaton was corrupt, he did not say Sunday’s VAR was fond of celebrating at hostelries hostile to Celtic, he simply called out what he saw was “poor officiating”.

As a consequence, Brendan faces an SFA disciplinary hearing.  The difference between calling out poor performances – which we are all capable of, including Brendan – and asking for specific referees to be barred from your games is stark.

The SFA has reacted like this because it is weak.  It has weak officials who make mistakes and it has weak administrators who are out of their depth.  This is the environment Celtic have to do business in and whether you think it corrupt of just plain “poor”, it drags us down.

Player toiches ball past Lawrence and jumped into him. He expected a leg to fall over. Dive.

    THANKS.

  2. Rangers claim everything, no matter how ridiculous and ref fell for it there. Goal kick when blatant corner.

Our dear friend Alex, Eurochamps67 of this parish, passed away earlier this evening.

He was some fellow: A husband, Dad, teacher and pal, and of course a Celtic supporter all of his days. He called himself a golfer although the evidence of that was as thin as some of his 5 irons.

Ryan Christie hadn’t signed for Celtic when Alex was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the 5 year survival for which is 7%. Typical of the man, he set about becoming one of the 7%, embracing his time and his opportunities, and much to is doctor’s surprise, celebrated that milestone last Spring.

There’s a lot of crap around, on this blog too, folk forgetting themselves perhaps, but let’s not forget Alex McKillop tonight, one of the few, one of the best of us.

    Cheers Big Man.

Exactly. Would you swap the two wins against the currant buns to be top of the league and still in Europe?

i will sit on the fence and say it didnt happen so…😁

but they 2 days when we beat them were great days.

but if we were still in europe then it would have meant we had a team that could compete at that level so that would have been good

such a hard question to answer

if only 418 or Andrena could provide us with the right answer 😄

Sad news mo chara, my brother passed away from the same thing two years ago.

My condolences to friends and family.

  7. Ottamendi 36. Di Maria 36. I hate to say it but I can’t see Benfica beating them at ipox

Agreed. Wonderful player in his day though and one for the big games. I believe he has scored in an Olympic final, Copa America final and World Cup final.

  9. the long wait is over on

If benfica had a half decent finisher in their team this tie would be over

I didn’t know Alex personally although I well remember him as a poster . That was a very fine tribute to a man you obviously remember fondly . RIP.

all cancers are horrible obviously, but with pancreatic cancer the worst thing is that by the time its diagnosed it is very often too late. hence the survival rate.

unlike breast or testicular cancer when the person can feel a lump early enough then theres plenty that can be done.

early diagnosis is the answer, if only it could be funded with our tax money instead of lining fat cats wallets

Huns now favourites in the tie .

    not sure i agree.

i think they generally look more vulnerable at home than they do away

  16. Benfuca had loads of chances despite their panicking and poor finishing

Expect them to be calmer at Ibrox and go through

  17. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

The huns will go through now. The Portuguese generally lose in Glasgow. Hopefully they’ll get Liverpool or Leverkusen if they do go through. Two games chasing shadows and getting a measure of themselves would be just the ticket.

Meantime Celtic’s abysmal European record under the ‘stewardship’ of cheapskate Lawwell continues…

  18. Benfica players surround the ref after the match – he was dodgey. Sevco are a decent team and with pace to add will always be a threat – very direct , no faffin and not short of physicality. Yes, we’ve beaten them twice but before celement changes implemented and signings bedded in.

Benfica pace may well be decisive 2nd leg as they have to attack as home side.

  19. How many players did we have sent off this season in Europe, for a team that is poor at tackling and in contact ,yet they don’t even look like going down to 10 and are very physical how can this be?

  20. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Celtic just need to take two video clips in with Brendan.

    Hearts at weekend given.

    West Ham tonight not given.

  21. Huns have a very good keeper which earns them at least a goal every game. They also play with a consistent back 4. It will be hard for Benfica in the away fixture. As someone said earlier. As long as Liverpool are still in it they ain’t winning it

  22. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

More you see it, the more of a joke the handball against Iwata is.
