Shameless attempt to exploit corona and manipulate media

270

The Press Association yesterday reported an unnamed Scottish Premiership club sought to exploit the coronavirus with a call to have the season declared void, the same club contacted several other media outlets.

PA report the club spokesman saying, “We don’t see how titles, promotion or relegation can be agreed on any basis of sporting fairness.”  But in a move that surely caused acute cognitive dissonance, added, “Perhaps prize money can be split on the basis of the current table.”

It was not Hearts, or Hamilton Accies, neither of them would campaign for the prize money due for the 11th or 12th placed team, it was a PR man at a club high up the table, but not high enough to have a reasonable chance of winning anything.

This is naked attempt to exploit the distress, illness and mortal danger people find themselves in due to the coronavirus, all to provide cover for their colossal failure.  It is deplorable and shameless.

In this unprecedented time, all we can ask is that Scottish football works in the same way as most leagues across Europe and is not subject to desperate and bitter media manipulation.

  1. Really surprised they canceled Juniors games. Out in the open. Small crowds. People able to keep their distance..

  2. New face/same old message or time traveler from 2162?

“”As a lifelong Rangers supporter, it is an honour to work for the world’s most successful football club. When the opportunity arose, I was very pleased to fulfil this role and am looking forward to getting started.

“I am excited by the board’s vision for Rangers as we work towards our 150th anniversary and beyond.”

  3. Any EPL decision to install Liverpool as champions will be key to what happens up here. Our manager’s suggestion that the SPFL apply the points average of the previous 30 games to the remaining 8 fixtures is unarguable.

But Scottish football is coloured by the ABC mentality. Such people won’t shrink away from any opportunity to damage Celtic. That they’re exploiting a humanitarian crisis won’t embarrass them in the slightest. .

this should come as no surprise to anyone. sevco will use their massive influence with the football authorities and media in this country to have this season declared null and void. they will bully and intimidate other clubs to support their campaign.

the people who run our club will of course, do nothing.

*Dear God you must be new tae this game. As has been repeatedly said we like all member clubs only have one vote and unless we do a Belfast Celtic or Derry City and jack it in there’s nothing we can do.

When we refused tae take the flag down and faced expulsion it wisnae the soup takers in Leith that backed us but deidco on the south side of the river.

After the moreons thuggish attack on 3 of our players without retribution we asked for a meeting at hunden, big Gas Meter was allegedly told in no uncertain terms by the uneducated provincial club player who runs/ruins our game tae eff off.

A meeting was then called for all clubs tae attend, the then manager of killie refused tae attend, didnae dae his career much harm did it.

As for this scheidt about the calvinists threatening tae sue the freemason association if they’re relegated, no going tae happen as member clubs are not allowed tae do that, if they do UEFA will kick them out of the game and suspend our clubs and the national side from all FIFA/UEFA related tournaments.

Would that not leave the table exactly as it is ( Except for the small problem of two teams who have not played 30 games) ?

  10. There is no way we will not win this league either on the pitch or off it. I get the concerns from folks but there is no chance this season will be null and void. It’s not going to be the SFA making the call.

If we do play this to a finish, next season could split after playing each other twice, less games in 20/21 season.

  15. !!BADA BING!! @ 2:37 PM,

    That’s an interesting development.

It’s also interesting to note that a Scottish Football Club went to the press association, can’t see I’ve noticed that before, a change af tactic by someone!?

On the subject of the league positions. I would be looking at the meeting of the F.A. on Thursday, which will no doubt be influenced by the UEFA conference tomorrow.

If the F.A. give the PL Championship to Liverpool we will be in a great position to become Champions of Scotland again.

However, if Liverpool aren’t awarded the title there’s not the remotest chance the SFA/SPFL will award the title to us.

Another aside, I’ve seen fholk stating they don’t want an astreix beside this years league, well unless the league recommences very quickly that’s bound to happen.

We will have to win the ten to bring creditility to the ninth if it’s awarded this season, if that makes sense.

Talksport….”and Keys has questioned whether the Rangers boss is actually more concerned about Liverpool winning the Premier League…

“What about Scotland? Should Celtic be ‘given’ a title they haven’t won? Of course they shouldn’t and as manager of Rangers Steven Gerrard should be making that very point,” Keys said.

“Or is he more concerned about Liverpool? It makes you wonder doesn’t it?

“No. Liverpool can not be handed a title they haven’t won. Nor can Celtic.”

Rangers are currently 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, and their form does not suggest that they can topple the current champions.

Gerrard did make a statement about the current situation earlier today on Rangers’ official website.

He said: “Games getting cancelled, leagues getting put on hold around the world, but I think it’s very much a time where football has to become secondary.

“People’s lives are at risk, people’s businesses are at risk.

“I think we have to be patient.

“This is a virus that’s spreading very, very quickly around the world.

“I think we’ve got a duty of care first and foremost for our own families, and our own people, at Rangers and our supporters, and wider society as well.

“Do everything you can to take precautionary measures to help the virus not spread any quicker than it is, but it’s certainly a very concerning time right now.”

TB&F you don’t like the fact that many people were protected from going to the front line by holding skilled positions, positions that were dominated by certain groups, in fact certain groups were formed to ensure that other groups of people did not have access to said skilled workforce.

*I’m well aware of the shipyard loyal etc but not all war effort employees were of that ilk, although I dare say a huge percentage was.

My da, who had Irish parents, was supposedly a good wee fitba player; at the age of 15 he tore his cartilage playing badminton. An injury that didnae get repaired until I was 10, that’s about 20 years later. He failed his medical but was given an apprenticeship in a war related industry; it may have cost him a promising career in the game but possibly saved his life.

Both my granny and grampa came fae republican parts of Ireland, in fact her first language was Gaelic, daily Mass and Holy Communion plus the rosary kneeling on the floor every night were a ritual and yet pride of place on my granny’s sideboard was his older brother’s photie in his RN uniform.

Fast forward almost 40 years and I’m standing on the hill in a building site in the Vale of Leven.

I was with an older colleague with a generic name who didnae say much about fitba or religion, although rumour had it that his Irish granny started the riot at the famed Dumbarton orange walk, seemingly as all the men were standing at the Vennel growling she ran across the road and skelped the worshipful master with her shopping bag, all hell broke loose after that.

Anyway he turned tae me and pointing down the hill said “look son what do you see” when I shook my head questioningly he then continued “Catholics’ and stupid prods as any prod with half a brain widnae work in the conditions we have tae.

  24. MONDAY 16TH MAY 1981

I had a wonderful visit today with my mother, father and Marcella. Wonderful, considering the circumstances and the strain which indeed they are surely under.

As I expected, I received a lot of verbal flak from Screws going and coming from the actual visit. Their warped sense of humour was evident in their childish taunts, etcetera.

I wrapped myself up well to keep me from the cold. My weight is 58.25 kgs today, but I burnt up more energy today with the visit. I’ve no complaints of any nature.

I’ve noticed the orderlies are substituting slices of bread for bits of cake, etcetera — stealing the sweet things (which are rare anyway) for themselves. I don’t know whether it’s a case of ‘How low can you get?’ or ‘Well, could you blame them?’ But they take their choice and fill of the food always, so it’s the former.

They left my supper in tonight when the priest (Fr Murphy) was in. There were two bites out of the small doughy bun. I ask you!

I got the Sunday World newspaper; papers have been scarce for the past few days.

There is a certain Screw here who has taken it upon himself to harass me to the very end and in a very vindictive childish manner. It does not worry me, the harassment, but his attitude aggravates me occasionally. It is one thing to torture, but quite a different thing to exact enjoyment from it, that’s his type.

There was no mirror search going out to visits today — a pleasant change. Apparently, with the ending of the no-wash protest, the mercenary Screws have lost all their mercenary bonuses, etcetera, notwithstanding that they are also losing overtime and so on. So, not to be outdone, they aren’t going to carry out the mirror search any more, and its accompanying brutality, degradation, humiliation, etcetera.

Why! Because they aren’t being paid for it!

I’m continually wrapped up in blankets, but find it hard to keep my feet warm. It doesn’t help my body temperature, drinking pints of cold water. I’m still able to take the salt and five or six pints of water per day without too much discomfort.

The books that are available to me are trash. I’m going to ask for a dictionary tomorrow. I’d just sit and flick through that and learn, much more preferable to reading rubbish.

The English rag newspapers I barely read, perhaps flick through them and hope that no one opens the door. A copy of last week’s AP/RN was smuggled in and was read out last night (ingenuity of POWs again). I enjoyed listening to its contents (faultless – get off them ! – good lad Danny (Morrison)). I truly hope that the people read, take in and understand at least some of the truths that are to be regularly found in it. I see Paddy Devlin is at his usual tricks, and won’t come out and support the prisoners…

Well, that’s it for tonight. I must go. Oíche Mhaith.

No doubt ine of the more sensible suggestions. My take would be UEFA would be looking for lawfully sound and consistent solutions. Pragmatic and practicle solutions can still be fraught legally.

    ERNIE LYNCH @ 3:56 PM,

You have a point, but he’s a consultant, depending on the contract I think it would be quite easy to margilise him.

For me his frantic and amaturish handling of the Morelos situation must have been the last straw. Steven Gerrard spoke out about it.

From my view point, in January Rangers had to get Morelos off their books and bring in a quality striker.

The ensuing mess meant that was not going to happen, it ruined Rangers season. That situation would not have gone off without fallout!!

The Jabba situation will have to be managed, surely he’s got as much (un)credibility to loose as the Club!?
