So-called spivs only ones to cough up again

1057

It appears that the so-called spivs are once again the only people likely to put their hands in their pockets to fund the coming season’s shortfall at Newco Rangers.  There has been a campaign for much of this year to drive the club into the gutter, although on this occasion no one has accused Celtic fans, the SFA, HMRC or various imaginary enemies of acting in an underhand manner.  These moves were all the work of formerly loyal Rangers men, who wanted ownership of Newco on the cheap, or some kind of influence thereafter.

The ‘spivs’ have not been intimidated or been blackmailed into handing over the club to hostile forces.  Instead they are prepared to invest again, stay the course and see a return on their money.

‘Spivs’ is an unnecessarily pejorative term but if money comes in from the variety of hedge funds and offshore entities it will not be a gift.  Neither was the initial investment of £5.5m, or the subsequent monies raised at the IPO.

It’s too late to complain about who owns the club, or that a collection on wealthy fans could have bought the assets of Rangers on the cheap when Charles Green stepped in.  Campaigns to undermine the club will not bring about a dramatic change, they will only weaken an already painfully weak entity.

Two years ago someone inside the game told me ‘the Rangers you know are dead, whether they phoenix or not.’  The outfit which exists now will forever be a bit-part player, which even Dave King recognises is an untenable commercial proposition.

Remember, Tommy Gemmell, Bertie Auld and John Hughes will be signing copies of their books at the Celtic Store in Argyle St from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday. Take a camera.
And before that, Bertie Auld will be live on CQN from 1pm this Friday. Expect anecdote overload.

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

Nats constantly say a Yes vote is not a vote for Salmond…

But in the same breath, they assure us a No vote is a vote for Cameron….

It is neither a vote for Salmond or a vote for Cameron in my opinion

The SNP is merely standing up for what they believe in and their belief what the Scottish people want. If you vote Yes, you are saying yes to governing yourself and goodbye to being governed by Westminister whether it be a Tory, Labour Government.

Nothing to with reasoned politics but I will say this; a yes vote would mean no longer being associated with a United Kingdom or more importantly the Union Jack. The latter I despise immensely because of the way the zombies flaunt it. As I say nothing to do with the politics on how we should vote but there you are I have said it.

Would it not great not to see a Union Jack again and to see what the flag the zombies adopt next!

    Keep the Faith!

There will be no currency agreement with the rest of the UK

We will only be allowed back into the EU on EU terms……if at all.

Then again, not being in the EU is a nationalist goal, surely? Insular navel gazing and myopia is the vision :-)

who are mostly against Independence and lose their seats, suddenly become for an

Independent Scotland and fight for seats in a new Scottish Parliament in whatever party they are in?

  6. With the World Cup upon us I was reminiscing today about a happy memory from Argentina 78.

Still only ten years old, Italy were taking on the hosts , the whole family watching . Think it was about one in the morning when Roberto Bettega got the winner and we all went crazy.

We were in the kitchen watching on our first colour TV bought specially for the World Cup . Happy days.

  7. I hope that the independence vote is YES. Will see many years of negotiations before Scotland becomes a country on its own. Could be a struggle at first then but will be better without the hand of Westminster

It is not all about currency mate; there is far more to it than currency. I take from your post…I’m being sold a pup that I have decided. For the record mate I have not decided but the question of what currency we will use will not sway it for me.

We will of course have a currency, just exactly what that will be, we will find out if it is a yes vote.

What I would say on the currency issue is that Westminster gave the yes vote a boost when they said you can’t have the pound (it’s our ball and we’re not playing, rattle out the proverbial pram).

People are frightened of change and the unknown, they prefer the status quo. I will and would urge anybody to make a balanced decision across all the issues and not just on currency.

Maybe those same Cumbrians and others might just start to ask what the feck do we need with these fecking things anyway. We don’t need them, we can’t afford them and who cares where they go as long as they aren’t on my doorstep.

If Scots vote Yes it’s up to the English to make a decision on whether they keep them. If they choose to vote for the same London centric parties then that is their problem, not ours.

A Yes vote in Scotland will see dramatic changes in the way people in England see political parties. Once the Scots economic subsidy is gone, the rest of what is left of the UK will have to fork out to pay for the expansion of London and the SW, they wont meekly accept it forever, a Yes vote in Scotland will be the best thing ever for ordinary people in areas outside London and the SW, the press in England are already asking questions that have never been asked before.

One thing is now certain, Scots are starting to ask and to an extent demand self determination. Whether it happens now or some time in the future is anyone’s guess but happen it will, now that it has started Scotland will never be the same again.

The parties that ultimately rule Scotland know this and as a result if we vote no in September there will be an almighty rush to strip us of our remaining assets and powers of the Scots goverment will be diminished so as we can’t as easily give ourselves the option of opting out of this unequal Union again.

This debate is about so much more than mere political ideals, who gives a toss about whether we elect a Socialist goverment, as long as we don’t elect a so called Socialist party that was responsible for getting us involved in illegal wars that result in the deaths of 100000s of innocent people while at the same time allowing big buisness to run PPI schemes that built hospitals and schools at greater cost to local taxpayers than if the local authority had been allowed to borrow finance on the open market that will be good enough for me.

Socialism, there’s barely a politician in Scotland that can tell you what it means and in the rest of the UK there’s only 1 left and that’s Dennis Skinner.

I was in Denmark earlier today, I can’t imagine many citizens believing that life would be better together with one of their larger neighbours.

I see this opportunity to be independent as such an opportunity. I would not be able to look my yet to be born grand kids in the eye if I didn’t vote to give them the opportunity to live in an independent Scotland.

I don’t believe it will be a land of milk and honey but I believe that the opportunity to make our own mistakes, to celebrate our own triumphs, to build a country where the decision makers are just along the road is one we should take. For me it is not about being £20/week better or worse off it is about giving ourselves the opportunity to shape our nation.

  19. Eddieinkirkmichael. Now there’s negative scaremongering if ever I saw it……so are they going to remove devolution if we vote no. What nonsense. Where you calling JK names today?

Fair enough and I expected that reaction. My real point is that I don’t think that either side can say with any certainty what the financial implications will be. There are far too many variables including political decisions which depend on future elections. I would just rather have those decisions taken closer to home.

” SAGs are usually, but not exclusively, co-ordinated by a local authority (LA) and made up of representatives from the LA, emergency services and other relevant bodies. They meet at regular intervals, or when necessary, to review event applications and advise on public safety. They may be event or location specific but otherwise tend to be based on LA boundaries.

SAGs do not have legal powers or responsibilities and are not empowered to approve or prohibit events from taking place. They provide independent advice to event organisers, who retain the legal responsibility for ensuring a safe event. (Individual representatives of organisations forming the SAG may have powers to require event organisers to comply with their legal obligations.)”

Basically, the polis and the nanny state health workers are saying Celtic can’t have a Safe Standing Area because you might take someone’s eye out with that.

But , if you vote Yes, I am sure it will all work out fine

  28. Hi justafan. My general point to you was to point out that democracy is just that. A majority vote. We have that now, with all it’s votes, independence won’t change that. As for compulsorary voting well of course the SNP want that. They also want to outlaw catholocism.
