SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

Episode 5 of The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind comes hot on the heels of one of the club’s most controversial European ties in recent memory.

3 at the back or 4 tomorrow night? And given Sviatchenko may be out, who will they be?

    ___

Probably Ajer with Tierney, Lustig and Jozo. Izzy is off, Gamboa injured and I haven’t seen much signs of Ralston during pre-season.

I think Ajer would do alright, I don’t expect Rosenborg to do much attacking and he already has experience at that level.

” …. why Brendan Rogers didn’t have anything to say about the continuity myth, or the stripping of titles.”

Apart from anything else, I would guess that most of what we read by Brendan is his response to questions by the MSSM. I don`t think they have yet got round to asking about continuity and stripping just yet.

  3. Meanwhile back in the ole looking-for-laptops department I’m happy to consider any recommendations. A max budget of £600 to get me a new laptop, preferrably a 17″ screen, decent speed for watching (ahem) live sports and with the Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) suite….

Been searching various high street sites for a couple of hours and totally bamboozled with terrabytes, RAM and GigaHertz…… ;-)

I’m hoping for 2-0 tomorrow but have a bad feeling about this. Way too much negativity about the place. Nuts!

  6. My guess at BR`s selection for tomorrow:

    Gordon

    Lustig Simunovic Ajer Tierney

    Forrest Brown McGregor Armstrong

    Rogic

    Sinclair.

Few references to squirrels. Are they cuddly red ones or the nasty grey ones?

    Just asking.

    —————————————-

    It varies.

However, you’ll be glad to know that the red and grey squirrels are actually different species and not reproductively compatible. Surely this can only be a good thing for CQN…

Journalist: ‘Brendan, what do you think about the GB, would you like to tell them what you think of them?’

BR: ‘To be honest, that’s hardly the biggest issue facing Scottish football at the moment, is it? I’m much more concerned about the continuity myth, and the title stripping issue. The integrity of the Scottish game is in question. These are the sort of issues that exercise me, and it’s those issues you should be asking questions about’.

Maybe he’s not bright enough to respond like that, or maybe it would be more than his job is worth to do so, or maybe he just doesn’t care.

I don`t think there will be too much negativity around the players.

I am comfortable about going through this round.

Even 0-0 tomorrow would only slightly dent that confidence.

I watched some of the Rosenborg against Dundalk game. Rosenborg of old they are not.

    Celtic for the victory.

Remember that Anor Wee Gin mob toiled against Cork City in the last round.

And Celtic are going to score against them in the away fixture.

    Let’s be realistic here.

  15. ernie,

I , also, would like that kind of response but most managers , most of the time don`t court controversy ( I wish they would). If BR truly wanted to talk of continuity and stripping of titles it would , as you show, be very easy:

Journalist: Brenda, is Dembelle likely to play any part in the Rosenborg game?

BR: ‘To be honest, that’s hardly the biggest issue facing Scottish football at the moment, is it? I’m much more concerned about the continuity myth, and the title stripping issue. The integrity of the Scottish game is in question. These are the sort of issues that exercise me, and it’s those issues you should be asking questions about’.

    Ernie and Sionnach

Timothy Daniel Sullivan, the Irish Nationalist MP who wrote God Save Ireland, was the grandfather of Kevin O’Higgins the first Minister of Justice in the Irish Free State.

Now if every anyone deserved to be called a ” Free stater” it was Kevin O’Higgins.

On the 8th December 1922 he signed the death warrants for 4 anti treaty IRA prisoners ( in revenge for the killing the day before of Free State TD Sean Hales)

The 4 men were selected ( one from each province) Sean McElvey,Liam Mellowes,Dick Barrett and Rory O’Connor, although all had been in prison at the time of the previous shooting.

Rory O’Connor had been best man at Kevin O’Higgins wedding some months previously.

O’Higgins himself was executed coming from Mass 5 years later aged 35.

    Free Staters,West Brits, who cares

    Just sad waste of life.

  24. Jobo, while you are at the Heids office you might want to consider using an alternative to Microsoft Office –

instead try Openoffice, which has all the functionality you will need and it is FREE!

  25. I wasn’t too worried about not qualifying because I thought we had a pretty strong spine in Gordon. Boyata/Simonovic and either Dembele or Griffiths.

Looks like the midfield will need to be totally on the ball and I’ll bet Griffiths is kicking himself for stupidity. There’s a lot of it about.

  26. Rock Tree Bhoy on

I think at the end of the day they are just too many pro sevco persons in positions of influence within Scottish football for any punishment to be successfully applied, OK cut to the chase MASONS, way too many of them, they will make sure the whole things dies a death and Yes in years to come they will simply refer to this period as the Banter Years. In terms of opposition we are simply not united enough to put up any sort of in depth strong challenge, from Dermot Desmond all the way down to me there is no tangible body strong enough to oppose and beat the powers (MASONS) that run Scottish football.
