Standing up for your views, San Siro

658

Another day another Uefa fine for crowd-related transgressions, the umpteenth in recent years.  When we went to Seville we knew you could take tens of thousands of Celtic fans anywhere, secure in the knowledge they would make friends with police and locals alike.  That reputation’s gone, the Fifa and Uefa awards, relics.

The world appears to have its share of Pussy Rebels.  Someone who will tarnish another’s reputation (in this case Celtic) but not have sufficient courage in their convictions (in this case their right to break Uefa rules) that they will do so in their own name, accepting consequences accordingly.

The internet is full of them too, keyboard hard men who will carry a campaign to the ends of the earth, as long as it doesn’t leave a trace of identifying information.  If their name gets out, they will run 100m in the opposite direction of their declared stance, faster than Usain Bolt at am Olympic final.  Pussy Rebels, every one of them.  Lots of people have crazy/offensive/just plain wrong views, but manage to put their names to them – nutcases, but Tiger Rebels.

If you have a view, or way you like to enjoy a game of football, stand up for it.

The incidents in Zagreb pale into insignificance compared to the mini-bus attack which left a child injured before the League Cup semi-final.  That wasn’t a rule transgression, it was proper violence.

A few days after the incident I wrote I was concerned there had been no arrest.  Despite the overwhelming outrage among Celtic fans and others, and the damage done to the victim, the reward money is still unclaimed.  Do the proper thing, report the crime and claim your reward.  We have a reputation worth putting your name to.

Not sure how things will go (on the field) tomorrow night.  Celtic have an incredible record in the San Siro over 90 minutes, four draws and I think only a couple of defeats?  A win would see us into the last 16, it’s a huge ask, but don’t bet against Ronny.

Farewell James Easdale, we’ve loved your work.

My thanks to Andy Coyle.  Don’t know him from Adam, but he called me out of the blue, met outside Celtic Park, and put £100 in my hand for our Mary’s Meals appeal.  God bless the Celtic support.

On the subject of which, you know you’re dealing with someone special when you learn Lisa Hague, Kris Commons partner, bought a ticket for CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner.  She’ll be helping out too, more on that later.  After the dinner we have Packy Bonnar, Joe Miller, Tommy Coyne and the one-and-only Tom Boyd, with Archie Macpherson speaking about Jock Stein and Patricia Ferns on song.

Let me know if you still need a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

I agree that no-one who deliberately causes our club harm or brings our support into disrepute deserves anything but a good doing. We used to self-police,and that was the norm.

I have to say though that our charge sheet is long but our crimes are insignificant when we see what others get away with regularly in Europe.

  4. Bit strange no arrest made after bus incident. No forensics, no cc tv, no independent witnesses, no grass. Anyone else thinking it was huns v huns?

  5. And the mysterious pro IRA chants at the Renne game in 2011. Chants that never happened . In spite of live coverage of the game the offensive chants non-existant were not recorded . I think it was the police match commander who heard and reported the non-existant chants to UEFA.

if this post on KDS is anything to go by you won’t have to wait long

“Well, if it is for flares, I reckon we won’t have long to wait to find out what the next punishment would be. I know for a fact that people are travelling to Milan in possession of these things, with every intention of setting them off.”

I bought mine from Ebay, and like me, you’d be better going for a box which is “pre-loaded” with the programs you are likely to use XBMC, etc. I’ve found it at times to be a bit of a learning curve. The quality of the feeds can vary, from excellent HD coverage to buffering old analogue quality (the recent games in Gran Canaria being an example).

Good news is you can usually find whatever “sports event” you are looking for, but sites can shut down overnight. It’s worth keeping an eye on the facebook forums for up to date news. Also, there’s a couple of guys on here who have them if you are having trouble..

And as I’ve said before,we were right beside The Green Brigade that night.

The Celtic website reported the other day that all Celtic fans will be searched before entering the ground on Thursday. I hope the Italian police are good at their job. Any Individual caught letting these off should be made to pay the Club’s fine.

I don’t have a KDS account, only really go to look at the photoshop stuff tbh. Cartuja and Arsene Parcelie’s stuff is genius at times.

If anyone does, I’d be asking Goodbye Sevillian who these guys are and passing the details onto Celtic

  14. I just hope the support report to Celtic anyone who steps out of line tomorrow night in the San Siro. I can’t get my head round anybody setting off flares. Why?? To be honest, I find it even harder to understand why anybody would go to the bother of making a banner (with sweary word) criticising UEFA. All that does it bring discredit on Celtic.

I have a feeling we might get a result tomorrow night. Would make up for the times we have been cheated in Italy.

  15. UEFA must coin it in on Euro nights, every team must get fined for flares set off during games…..every Club gets fined don’t they? Absolute joke, yet another rule with no consistency. Not condoning the half wits who do it btw.

  16. Bobby Russell and 001 Bhoy thanks for the pudding references was going to use them myself but thought the better of it. As I see it as regards our fans behaving is self policing, nip it in the bud before it starts, especially this obsession with flares. I saw self policing in action in Seville and see how that turned out – well apart from the result. 3-1 tomorrow Hail Hail Hebcelt

  17. !!Bada Bing!!

It was at the home leg of the tie. I was situated quite close to the GB who were supposed to have done it ,but I heard no IRA chanting. The match commander took it on himself to report us directly to uefa .Was this a first??

  18. There’s a picture in the Scotsman with the idiot standing proud holding the flare.

He should be invited to Celtic Park, handed the bill for the clubs 10,000 Euros fine and a banning order.

  19. This Croatia fine seems to be for crowd disturbances ??? They dont say flares . Did something serious happen ?

‘Crowd disturbances’. Entirely the cause of the police wading through the Celtic support in a totally inappropriate manner. I was there and there was no trouble. A flare had been lit well before the police moved in but by the time the police moved in everybody was watching the game and trying to stay warm.

  23. IRA chants that nobody heard.

A Fxxx UEFA banner as a result of the above.

    A Bobby Sands/William Wallace banner

Each charge was defensible. Yet our club decided not to.

    Why not.

Compare and contrast to the charge and aquital of Nazi salutes in Israel.

  24. How can anyone get through customs carrying flares? Certainly not at airports, surely?Anyhows, Celtic should issue a statement pointing out the punishment we`ll get if flares are let off yet again, and asking decent fans to `police` themselves. Worked in the past, I have been away dozens of times watching Celtic, and have seen first hand some bampots taken to task by proper fans.

    Hi Fellow Celtic Fans,

At the risk of being branded an anonymous internet troublemaker…

How the feck can Celtic be fined more than £100,000 in just over 3 years by UEFA for illicit chanting and the like and yet our new south-side neighbours are allowed and informally condoned by the not-fit-for purpose SFA to sing in great numbers songs which are clearly anti-Catholic and religiously and ethnically prejudiced? This really makes my blood boil!

Very recently I have watched UEFA place TV adverts during European matches categorically stating that Racism has no place in the game. I always think why are they so in our faces about this issue yet ignore the religious and ethnic intolerance which is a cancer in the game in Scotland?

Any modern business worth its salt these days has an equality policy whereby there is no place for intolerance or prejudice based on gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or skin colour. UEFA and much more so the SFA, you are both cowards who not only are out of touch but are truly harming the game in Scotland, not to mention doing their bit to shore up one of Scottish Society’s great ills; that of religious and ethnic intolerance.

Shame on you SFA and shame on you UEFA!

    Yours in Celtic,

    TB&F.
