Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

  1. See and there was me thinking that sitting on your arse was always the best option.

Have you ever noticed the Huns in West Lothian talk about SanGwitches ye ken?

Embarrassing to try and explain their language to Restaurant or cafe workers when they venture out more than 20 miles of M8

Now now, you love the quality time, I know you do, much better than being in a boring boozer watchin a couple of nonentities sluggin it out to be the best in Europe innit :)

On the Fenian topic – my take is that if you want to sing that you’re a Fenian, then don’t you dare object to some bigot calling you the same.

On the Billy Boys, I don’t want that banned. I want every time they play us they sing that song, I want their sponsors to be associated with it,I want their fans to explain to their sons why they sing it, and I’d like, maybe some day, a journalist to say “we’re not going to make a fuss of this, but is it OK if we publicise the words of this song to every other club in Europe ( not that you’re gonna play there any time soon).

  6. Only 5-5 I’ve just watched some were lassie fall and hurt herself

  7. Real mopping up Athletios best period with ease..

Nothing better than being able to afford the best players in the world in a country with fantastic cities great culture, food and climate.

  8. So far , not a bad game, for me, watching these two reminds me of the famous Dan Maskell quote when McEnroe faced Jimmy Connors in a Wimbledon final. In his opinion ” it was a great shame that one of them had to win”.

Ramos was offside, but in true ITVSport style the BT comes team will not criticise the ENglish officials…all a bit daft. The mentality of the English escapes me at times, they are clinging to the thought that they are important just because the narcissistic Clattenburg is reffing the game..

Only a halfwit hun would have a problem explaining to their kids what Brendan Rodgers Fenian army was about, and anyone that took offence would be looking to be offended.

    ……………….

Aye O.K. If you say so, O Knowledgeable One.

  10. Really dislike A. Madrid because of 1974 and dislike Madrid because they are the establishment team (although seemingly Franco supported A. Madrid) so I just want Ricky Burns to win tonight.

Christiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale apparently argue like an old married couple in training

They look quite ok tonight though

James Forrest/WC – so, an unexpected, but welcome consequence of Res12 is that the 5-way-agreement puts der Hun between a rock & a hard place…..karma indeed ;-))

    Theoriginal…,

I do say so and here is a very simple explanation you can give to any offended children you might meet.

The Fenians fought and won their freedom from an empire which had enslaved and oppressed them for over 800 years, much to be admired. The people who think is a derogatory term are people who support the continuation of slavery and oppression.

Now was that so very hard, and why would you want to colour it any other way unless you like being a victim.

If Celtic are not playing then my interest rating is at zero, even when money is involved

Football is football ….but Celtic is different

We need to eradicate diving from the British game. Sending Bale to Madrid is a good start.

Agree with most that’s been said here on the “Fenian Army” discussions. My point originally was,if Rodgers, who’s name will be attached to it,doesn’t like it should we sing it?

  18. PARKHEADCUMSALFORD

I agree, it’s been okay, but I expected more fireworks . Zidane has been cute hi team drop off and leave two up top making the pitch very long for Atleti to cover and do their “hunting in packs” stuff.

Perhaps the RM midfield will tire, but it looks like Atleti left it all on the park against Barca two weeks ago. If they can rekindle that fire they can grab a goal.

  19. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Just on first time today. Told to look back at Winning Captains 1:53pm post, but it’s gone. What was that about anyone?

Came down from the Highlands today to visit youngest Miss Hunderbirds who is at college in Glasgow. First time in the town for a while. Met her for lunch in town, went up west, botanic gardens looking great in the sunshine. Went to Kelvingrove museum ( all the free attractions ;)) went for a couple of pints, and now back at Holiday Inn Express at Hamilton, having a beer in the room.

A great day, eeeeeeeeeeexceeeeeeept for a big long line o Phannies wi crimplene toy sodjer uniforms, beatin’ their drums and playin their shrill whistles and flutes right in the middle of town, ruining everyone’s day.

Later up west, one Chapter of them, or whatever they call themselves wending their way along Argyle street into Partick. All looking the worse for wear, and flanked by some knuckle draggers wi Huns taps. Honestly it’s time this was stopped.

    SERIOUSLY!!!
