Support and paradoxical intent

594

I suppose it is inevitable, this far into a period of domination, that draws and defeats attract disproportionate criticism.  We are not used to defeats, recently we have not even been used to a season without a treble, so reactions to dropping five points in a week have few reference points.

In the social media era, players are not immune to what is being said about them, some of them no doubt reflecting on years of successful service behind them, who perhaps feel deserted when the call was made.

I know what you’re thinking, this is classic paradoxical intent.  We react to that which makes us anxious in a way that can only increase our anxiety.

Neil Lennon is dealing with the absence of Forrest, Edouard, Johnston, Jullien, Bitton, Elhamed and Barkas, and easing the return to fitness of Ajeti, Christie and Griffiths, while hurting at some painful results.

We travel to France tomorrow then back in the early hours of Friday before it all goes on the line, again, at Hampden on Sunday.  All while Aberdeen rest and prepare.  In these circumstances, this is a tough ask.  Tougher still without support, and I don’t mean supporters, I mean actual support.  This is a no-brainer time, circle the wagons and get back to doing what we always do.

Listen I love and respect your passion and loyalty to the cause

But you insult me (and probably a few more on here) when you suggest I get my view from the Internet

    Come on

it’s great to have a debate and I make no suggestion that my view is infallible

But without sounding like Brian Clough “we have a chat and then we agree I’m right” we are in a pickle

I do not believe its the players

Lennon stated in his after match interview that some “players lacked confidence”

Ajer has stated “this is not the case”

    Harmonious?

Brilliant – but I’m not happy with your theory

If we are all to hang (together or independently) what’s the bloody point !!!!

    Hail Hail my friend

  4. He also said we were “passive” despite this game supposedly needing a “reaction”.

And nobody seems to be questioning the fact that he said some don’t want to be here and should maybe leave yet those players are still being picked to start.

He also said we were “passive” despite this game supposedly needing a “reaction”.

He has used that word a few times this season,

What does that say about his motivational skills and about the players themselves who decided to be passive…..

  7. Newspaper polls were absolutely disgraceful.

I would almost Think that Lenny would be entitled to take Legal Action against them.

They are certainly endangering his employment & his standing as a Football Manager.

Regarding Paul’s Article and the views of those criticizing it, as ever the truth is somewhere in the middle.

There is little doubt in my mind that we are currently playing well below what we are capable of, but it is equally true that injuries & Covid have been a contributory factor.

Some criticism is entirely justified but in the disappointment of a poor performance or a bad result, some ghuys are prone to going over the top, then add in a few sneaky Huns who enjoy the show & stir it up a bit more & all rational discussion is buried in a slanging match.

  8. What nonsense Paul. dont you know we have to be winning at Half time and full time in EVERY game. Anything else is unacceptable

  9. Paul The Spark,

Condolences on the loss of your Mum, and thoughts and prayers with all who are affected by her passing.

  10. While I am no fan of the SMSM, imo, it is not down to them. We have been playing poorly for much of the season. Again, imo, we are playing as a TEAM. I feel this is not down to the players but to the manager. Axtion has to be taken and taken soon.

Great to see some of the old CQNers returning to the fold. Still, it would be good to hear from GG and SoT, particularly.

  11. It’s pretty clear that there are issues within the club that need to be sorted. CalMac alluded to that already saying the there were “internal issues” that need to be addressed.

We have a mole in the camp and several players are seemingly unhappy with how the coaching team work. This is well known to the Celtic support.

So we are far from a united group and if that is not addressed y whatever means necessary, including firing those individuals who are responsible for the disharmony we will not kick on and the ten will be gone.

Have you had it diagnosed by a doctor?

If not, don’t assume you know what it is. See a quack. If you can’t move ask them for a home visit.

They might be able to prescribe something strong enough to numb the pain (eg morphine).

Longer term, physio is your friend.

    hot smoked

please do not deliberately mis-interpret my words to make up stuff

i didnt have a go at paul for supporting the team

he is having a go at me and others for being critical of celtics performances this season

and he is also making stuff up – a bit like yourself – by saying the criticism is disproprtionate for dropping 5 points in a week

this isnt just about this week – as i said in my earlier post if you would read it with both eyes – and your brain – open, many people have seen this coming from near the start of the season and it has still been allowed to happen, thats what the criticism is for

  15. It all started after the Ferencvaros debacle, when Lennon criticised the players. “This has been bugging me for a while” he said . What does that mean. Meanwhile all players are still there and playing. There is something not right and it won’t just right itself.

  16. MNCELT on 27TH OCTOBER 2020 1:23 PM

Couldn’t agree more Paul – sadly it doesn’t work that way with the new breed of Celtic supporter

    _____________________________________________________

Very true. Support now seems conditional. Conditional on the choice of manager, coaches, CEO and his driveway etc. etc..

Some people attend, say, Morton’s or Ayr’s, every home game – in spite of serial disappointment. This is in stark comparison to some Celtic supporters’ qualified enthusiasm for the club.

  17. lets all do the huddle on

Slightly off topic folks, anyone got any remedies for sciatica? Have never felt pain like this in my life, can’t even stand up, crawling on my hands and knees to the bathroom.

MRI scan to see what is actually causing it then probably an operation

but if you dont have private healthcare the chances of the doc referring you forva scan are probably remote because of the cost

they will just prescribe you ibuprofen continually and maybe refer you to physio. but its unlikely to solve the problem

  18. Firstly,Paul the Spark, please accept my condolences. may she rest in peace.

Paul 67,quite right, lets get behind the team, and Manager,I don’t know how we will fare this year, but I will renew irrespective.

Neil Lennon correct to call out the campaign against him,Club need to act against STV, Daily Record and others.

I see James Forrest also called out the Daily Record.I tried to record my appreciation of this on the comments page, but was defeated by numerous adverts etc. so I will do so here.

Every man and his dog are jumping on the kick Celtic bandwagon,of course there is genuine concern, and each has their own method of resolution, but do we as the support really want to be lining up with the likes of the Daily Record, Raman Bhardwaj ,The Herald , Sportscene ,BBC Sportsound and numerous others.

    I don’t think so.

  19. ONENIGHTINLISBON on 27TH OCTOBER 2020 4:01 PM

I had sciatica last year, it was murder, you have my sympathies. You need to see you’re doctor and her nerve pain drugs like amitriptylene or gabapentin in conjunction with painkillers. Physio and time, no quick fixes I’m afraid.

  20. “several players are seemingly unhappy with how the coaching team work. This is well known to the Celtic support.”

I hear you but, with all due respect, the buckling down, nothing to see here, in Lenny we trust narrative is equally over the top in my eyes.

There are different views of the problem and differing views of the solution. Makes for a passionate debate.

Lastly, I am intrigued – who are the ‘sneaky Huns’ you mention?

Of course there is. It’s on the internet. And the internet is never wrong…

  23. Listening to Neil Lennon on Sky Sports just now ,I’m going to cut him some slack,he is saying a lot of us think and what the media are up to and Printing all bad negativity about everything Celtic Football Club especially players and Coaches,What Celtic should do is what the Sneakies at Sevco did they banned BBC Sportsound Scotland from Ibrox, and they have had a easy ride since then,As for The Daily Ranger Shopping Scott Brown if he gets a ban then for God Sake Celtic ,firstly ban them from all media conferences up at Lennoxtown and Celtic Park,Indefinitely, secondly get your lawyers on to the SFA regarding Morelos slapping Scott Brown on the head ,which surprise surprise that lousy rag or media didn’t pick up,

There’s no insult or even slight intended as to where you, or others get their view, posting Celtic dissension and negativity on the internet is a pure waste of time in my view, it serves no purpose. Fortunately, I can restrict myself to being generally supportive. Yes, I’m experienced, and yes I’ve been there, in the car park, bought the tee shirt and done it. On one occasion I only had to wait until the next day for Tony Mowbray to have been

    rightly sacked.

CQN is a one thread Blog there’s no response, no debate, certainly no intervention from the writer, posters giving their opinions On a ‘Knock yourself out’ basis.

Neil Lennon’s demeanour, his 3-5-2 under coached, 4-5-1 4 -2 -3- 1 or blah blah blah, is quite frankly for schoolboys, or amateurs coaches, by all means get it off your chest, if they must. Tedious, one line negativity like the Daily Dafty goes in one ear, and out the other when I’ve forgotten to scroll past. Posts without argument basis or facts, I scroll past, the same as I scroll past the ITK Brigade that are dying to bring their anecdotal knowledge to the Blog, quite frankly as my youngest daughter says WGAF.

I hope you don’t know my view on Neil Lennon’s suitability or competency, I keep it close to myself, and leave the running of Celtic to the ‘experts’ who appointed him, damn right I’ll stick up for the Celtic manager ( unless its Tony Mowbray and his 4-0 V St Mirren ) and stay closely with the facts, its not an opinion about what he’s achieved since Brendan Rodgers abruptly left.

I sent the link for the Herald one to John Paul Taylor, he agreed it was disgraceful. Even though they removed the content. I hope Celtic bar the group from Celtic Park. Wasn’t aware of any others.
