Sweeten the medicine, Celtic

991

There is an unusually sombre tempo head of tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 tie, a consequences of the 0-3 reversal at home three weeks ago and the general sentiment around Scottish football this week, but this match is an excellent test for both manager and playing squad.

We are a Champions League team again with aspirations to achieve at this level next season.  Having finally overcome the hoodoo of never having won away from home in the competition, we must use occasions like tomorrow to continue our growth in the competition.

We defended our 18-yard line in the Camp Nou and almost got away with a point.  The plan was wrong in Lisbon, where a talented Benfica controlled midfield and recorded a narrow win, but the win against Spartak in Moscow was deserved.

Celtic might not be able to qualify for the quarter finals but they can win the match tomorrow; this is an achievable objective which would sweeten the inevitable medicine.

  2. Moonbeams, fair point, but disagree.

Doing fine, enjoying the blog. Tough day, another tomorrow. Bit of respite tonight.

As-I-Thought given a rough time earlier for reporting what he saw, any sort of rowdiness on a plane nowadays won’t be tolerated, so learn the lesson Bhoys.

Hope everyone else enjoys the trip, stay safe.

  6. Roy Keane was never afraid to give it out, and he did, frequently, and deliberately with malice to boot. How he can agree with that referee and say that was a straight red is beyond me, nani was looking for the ball, the player came in behind him, ok he caught one on the chest, it was a yellow at best, he rolled around on the floor, made the most of it as they do. But for Roy Keane, of all players, to say that was a straight red, I am amazed.

7/4 or something like that – got a pass on 3rd attempt and told to lose 8 kilos!

  14. A wee bit of balance about the Heathrow incident.

It is stupid of fans to risk missing a game when they have had several warnings about their behaviour on flight.

It is also stupid of the plane personnel to get too heavy handed about a wee bit singing.

What will the non-football fans on the flight think of the “so-called greatest fans in the world”. (the phrase used by as i thought)

I’d guess they’d think both of the thoughts I expressed. They’d be annoyed at the undue delay but they’d apportion blame equally between the daft fans and the heavy handed aviation authorities.

Aeroplanes regularly transport screaming weans, stressed traveller’s who drink too much, over-indulged rock stars, and pissed holidaymakers. They do not enjoy papping too many of them off a plane and inconveniencing other passengers but they look on football supporters as a soft touch.

And yes I have seen bad behaviour from our support. Never saw much mileage in trailing it over the blog though. What influence, for good or bad, will that have?

  17. Twomacaroons, a fair share of the blog agree with keane that it was a sending off, the fact that he wasnt shy to put the boot in doesn’t make his opinion less valid

  18. A Ceiler Gonof Rust on

Look at MWD’s post above. Scroll down the list of donators and find the poster that everyone has jumped on the “your a hun” bandwagon tonight about. Then log into the wee oscar just giving page and look at the amount this poster donated. Then hang your head in shame for your stupid hun accusations.

How do I know this? I know this because he put his donation there at my request in return for a rare bottle of whiskey after a chat on here about a month ago.

As a relatively new poster on the blog, one thing that stands out is that when things are not going our way in the fight against the hun, in the BTC, in the title stripping, in any game we don’t hump the opposition senseless, we turn on ourselves.

    Very un-Celtic behavior.

HH Celtic men and wummin, fight the huns not ourselves.

Utd were comfortable with eleven, when nani went off mourinho brought on modric who was excellent then after going ahead he brought on pepe to shore it up . I also thought it was a strange starting eleven but then my dad used to say even big jock made odd team selections at times
