Tallinn or Gibraltar in Champions League for Celtic

532

Brendan Rodgers will start Celtic’s Champions League trail against Flora Tallin, from Estonia, or Lincoln Red Imps, from Gibraltar, in the tournament’s second qualifying round.

Flora, who are seeded against Lincoln Red Imps, are midseason, but went out in the first qualifying round a year ago to Rabotnicki, from Macedonia (who reached the play-off round before losing narrowly to Russians, Rubin Kazan).

Red Imps won the big (cough) Iberian derby last year when they eliminated Santa Coloma from Andorra, before crashing to Erik Sviatchenko’s Midtjylland.

Neither are the British Isles-based tie Brendan Rodgers would have preferred, travelling arrangements will cost an extra day’s training, but there were far more arduous opponents in the draw.

Games take place on 12/13th July and 19/20th July. The away tie is scheduled first – but you know the drill, don’t book flights until Uefa have ratified match arrangements.

If the team from Gibraltar make it through to face us could I appeal to the basqe and Catalan separists within our support to leave those flags at home and take the flag of Spain to the occupied colony ?

    TET,

UEFA in response to their own questions.

    TBB,

When you see the statement, you can tell us if UEFA responded to our questions or responded to the letter, subtle difference.

Errrrr – “Rangers” were banned from Europe for three years? Must have missed that one…..

  4. Great to see the Pics of the players training at Lennoxtown today. Was trying to identify as many as possible.

Efe was unmistakable, Think Ciftci & the new lad Ajer were there. Was trying to spot Mulgrew & Fisher as they are out of contract in 10 days but couldn’t spot either them or Izzy. Anyone know if they were there.

  5. The UEFA reply to STV questions are what I expect, with a little STV spin thrown in for good measure.

At no point did I equate Res 12 to a question about Rangers. How can UEFA investigate an entity that is in the throes of liquidation?

Res12 is about the SFA. Of which there is nothing in the quotes provided by STV. And probably didn’t form part of any questions posed by them. Of if they did, they are not publishing the answers.

  6. TET

STV are relying on a statement from UEFA from questions they have been asking in a series of emails, timescale not known. Grant Russell is refusing, on twitter, to state what the questions were, which, pardon the pun, poses the question por cierto.

  7. The huns were granted the licence in 2011 to compete in Europe, nothing is ever going to change that fact of the matter. UEFA have quite clearly stated that their bastard child was banned/barred from European competition and we ALL know the answer why! They had only just come into existence in 2012 so they were barred from competing. Maybe STV Grant could not clarify why the said Club/Clumpany was banned/barred.

Also Res12 is not about the zombie club and its unholy genesis but about SFA governance or lack of it.

Time for Level 5 to create some more fiction about the undead.

They’ve been rumbled and they know it and STV Grant has unwittingly (?) revealed that the zombies could not compete in Europe – the excuses why should be hilarious.

Except they weren’t given a licence in 12/13 because they were in administration could not produce audited accounts and had overdue payables to tax authorities…

    http://stv.tv/sport/football/302538-rangers-will-not-get-uefa-club-licence-insist-scottish-fa/

Now UEFA have not said in this report that it was the wee tax case overdue or the big tax case overdue. With that said it is not important and is a conflation –

Did Rangers meet licence criteria as at June 30 2011?

Grant Russell has form for that kind of thing.

Back in 2012 he was telling Twitter he had an email from UEFA confirming Rangers was the same club.

It took him a long time to post the email on Twitter, and when he did, it was a generalised comment talking about an interruption of membership. I don’t think it even mentioned Rangers by name.

Then, as now, he refused to publish the email he sent to UEFA, showing what they had actually responded to.

Grant is okay, but he knows where his bread’s buttered.

  11. Going by what is being said by Grant Russell and the comments from Res 12 reps here his summary will be as accurate as a horoscope, I await the Res 12 reps statement and be guided by that.

  12. Poor attempt to massage some fears and muddy some waters by our friends in STV.

Res 12 is about SFA oversight of our game. Rangers entered liquidation in 2012 and are not under the remit of UEFA – the SFA are. They’re the guys in our crosshairs.

Very telling that STV are not publishing their questions. We’re effectively been given answers to unkown questions.

IF that STV quote (in quotes) of what UEFA have said is true, then what I find shocking about it is that it says that the ‘Club’ who went through Administration etc., then entered the fourth tier of Scottish Football. i.e. UEFA’s view is that the Liquidated Club then continued as the same entity in the fourth tier of Scottish Football. Shocking acquiescence to the perpetuation of The big Lie by UEFA. IF this is UEFA’s Official Line…

  15. My Bhoy has just been watching a CTV interview with KT. Apparently he took on a personal trainer during his break to maintain his fitness. Such a professional head on the young man. Some of his seniors could maybe take a leaf out of his book instead of lying about in tattoo parlours embellishing their body ‘art’

  16. Thanks Gary67, That makes sense. Agree with Big George & Starry, Ajer looks massive.

Unsurprising for someone in the Scottish media to portray resolution 12 as a Celtic against deadclub situation .
