Teams with inferior resources have figured out how to play us

426

Despite benefiting from the worst goal I’ve seen conceded against Celtic, a well-drilled by no more than competent Kilmarnock team came from behind to take all three points and leave Celtic at a multi-year low yesterday.

Excuses are available: the pitch, the fact that we made six changes to the starting 11, but the reality is yesterday’s performance was little different from what we have seen so often this season.  I could make a case that we were worse still in the home win over Hamilton.  The latter performance took place on a pristine Celtic Park with Dembele and Griffiths both starting.

Two seasons on, teams with vastly inferior resources have figured out how to play us and we have not figured out how to compensate for this reality.

I trust the manager.  He has delivered and deserves our faith.  He will get it right and deliver 8-in-a-row, but I fear for our treble on Wednesday night.  Having failed to win any of our three away games against Premiership opposition, the pattern is too complete to ignore.

Apologies for the radio silence on CQN yesterday.  The server was knocked off by the volume of visitors and the recovery process caused further issues.  Been ages since this has happened, but I suppose it’s been a while since we’ve had results like this.

Watching games I am absolutely sure that the players are still good enough but whoever is responsible for giving them the proper number of dots to take with them onto the field is not doing their job! Full stop!??

  2. We need a John Harston. Constant balls into the box without anyone attacking them. Is it any wonder we don’t score? Teams know they can shut down passes through the middle abs allow crosses and we’re unlikely to score.

Need a leaner squad of 25 and lower wage bill. Too many passengers. Should leave over next 2 windows:

De Vries, Gamboa, Hendry, Boyata, Benkovic, Compper, Sinclair, Allan, Hayes, Benyu, Kouassi.

N’tcham will be sold next summer. Christie and Lustig might also go. Would allow us to bring in 4-6 quality players that would genuinely contribute to the team and bring much needed freshness.

Will be a new manager as Rodgers scunnered with Lawwell’s parsimony and Lawwell scunnered with Rodgers’ poor scouting and transfer record.

  5. A great article on Dybala of Juventus. This is not just an article about football … it reads like great poetry.

    Love it.

“Life does not give anything. If anything, sometimes and not at all, it can only offer great opportunities. Those who can grasp the meaning of that precious gift transform the “seed” into a tree rich in good fruits for themselves and for others. Then there are those who, for different reasons, do not realize the potential luck. The fleeting moment is dissolved and destiny, like Paganini, does not repeat.

There is a distinct feeling that the second case belongs to the story that has so far linked Paulo Dybala to Juventus. A relationship born under the sign of a fairy tale marriage which seems to be ending, as it often happens for certain unions, for incompatibility of character and which presages a fatal and inevitable divorce.

This would be a rather painful event especially for the Juventus executives who, with excellent reasons, had elected the young Argentine talent as the man of providence and the player who guaranteed pure fun as well as prestigious substance.

The criticism had superimposed the figure of Dybala to that of the immense and never forgotten Omar Sivori. Juventus had given him the number 10 shirt which is reserved for special players. The idyll seemed perfect. Even in Frosinone, as it has been for some time, we saw that “number 10” wandering around the field with openness and abulia as if the game was an accidental fact for him, with his mind being elsewhere.

The sentence of Allegri to comment on the Argentine was emblematic and meaningful: “The best quality of Dybala is running”. So not the imagination, creativity, genius. Heavy criticism for a champion who is not a marathon runner and who is asked to create more than just run.

The problem of Dybala and his painful black and white eclipse is all and only inside the mind and perhaps even the sole of the player who arrived at a lion club like Juve, not without good reasons, but to be able to become the “Lion King” of the Juventus savannah.

Then Ronaldo arrived with all his experience and appeal as a leader. In Dybala, evidently at the unconscious level, the spring is triggered, not of jealousy (it would be crazy and presumptuous), but of awareness with respect to a fatal “diminution” to have to endure.

And Dybala’s shoulders are not so wide and solid to hold that weight. That’s why, with a bitter feeling, the Argentine champion has already left Juventus in his head. Fortunately for the Bianconeri, Bernardeschi has stepped up behind him.

You are to be commended in the strength and lucidity of your defence of PAUL67. It’s clear that you have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of what he didn’t write, and also of what certainly can’t be proven to be the intent behind his comments.

Of course they are,I certainly don’t have any problems with who people are friendly with and nor should anyone else.

Perhaps, football is a place where it just wouldn’t enter their thought process to consider that type of action.

  17. Reading through the past couple of days blogs and emotioins are raw indeed, understandably so. I reckon more so on this particlar fan-site than others , due to the constant mantra of a ‘generation of domination’ , and other such sayings.

The reality has been somewhat different, and of course others can paint the past in whatever way they wish, but we cannot ignore the current situation that is harming Celtic. This is not the fault of newco or the SFA, but of two men, both in positions of power at the club. Both have gotten it wrong this summer ( and in the past), but they now need to come together to get it right, for the good of the game in Scotland.

This cannot be allowed to fester , for as oft is said on here, ‘We know how this ends’, and in this case, not in a good way.

I’m not talking about the boring trolls who do nothing but criticise and abuse Celtic supporters but those of us who try to see both sides of the argument and criticise when we deem fit.

P67 will always be there for a pot shot as he is perceived by many as a PL mouthpiece. I don’t agree with everything he writes, the tone of the current piece being an example, but do agree with many other opinions via the blog. What he writes should be a starting point for healthy debate, unfortunately it becomes a catalyst for personal abuse and the usual suspects posting the same garbage day in day out.

CQN’s editorial policy is certainly not if the boat rocking variety when it comes to the plc. Which will be more widely accepted and tolerated when ‘the good ship celtica’ is sailing in the right direction and good pace.

The recent transfer window and CL qualifiers were a ‘clustermess’ and out form is rank and has been suspect for some time.

So no wonder there’s anger and difficult questions. The ‘there there….we’ll still win 8IAR’ type of leader that avoids such questions will, inevitably, increase the anger.

I am assuming that it was Paul 67 who wrote that. Now, I am asking you and all those who jumped on the “our treble” statement:-

    Did you take this literally?

    Did you take it seriously?

or did you take it as a bit of triumphalism to wind up the resurgent confidence of the Hun and to counter the mounting negativity of our own.

Did any man or woman, of sound mind and body, enterrtain the notion that they were being promised the league title for ever an ever?

Is it in keeping with the oft-repeated mantra on here that leagues are generally won by the team with the most money, but there are no guarantees?

If not, why use it now against him?

Paul67 did not cause the defeat to Killie nor did his alleged triumphalism or complacency and I stand by that. He got it in the neck for this side issue, as a consequence of being seen as a privileged “ear” to the Celtic Board, unlike other Celtic blogs, and so he shares his space in the firing line as a proxy for PL.

Did I admit there were problems on the field (I can provide the quotes if you doubt it)? Did anyone? There may be differences about how serious are the consequences of our defeats but there is no-one saying they are unimportant. Is anyone denying that Paul67 has a better relationship with PL than many bloggers? Where is this stated? Who is on the drugs here?

But denying it,or asking for irrefutable proof? That’s what this blog has become now? Can’t voice an opinion,an observation,a perception? Proof only?

NOPE- my point was clearer than that i.e.- there were other interpretations of the “our treble” point that posters failed to consider as they rushed to conclude that Paul was talking about the future and not our current earned treble. I was not the one that was demanding proof. I was the one asking posters to consider the possibility that they could be wrong. As could I, if Paul 67, the only one who really knows his own mind, comes out and says- “Aye- I meant it all and I meant the future titles and trophies and we are going to win forever”.

How likely do you think that is?

As for happyclappers and mineshafters vying for the prized position as an oppressed minority on here, I have no doubts.

I state it clearly, the majority of match day attenders and, in the wider celtic support, ARE currently in the “mineshafter” bracket as they, and I believe there is something wrong within the club. We only difer on the odds and likelihood that it can be fixed.

The second part-there was a clear separation between the two-was a more general point.

Come on,T. You’re a decent guy, problems exist big time and you are holding people to Supreme Court standards of proof-and even that isn’t good enough,it seems. I quoted the article,ffs!-and hiding behind pedantry. People aren’t coming on here criticising the state of the club because they feel like it,it’s because they are genuinely concerned. And they are,in my opinion, quite right so to be.

  26. Reading back, still so many would like to put the blame for the present shambles on the Board. Not backing the manager.Once more I will put out the figure.Brendan has been given £ 30 million to spend.Amazingly, you all know this, but chose to either ignore it,or even more amazingly, refuse to believe it.That is not failing to back the manage. How many times do you have to hear,Mc Ginn chose Villa, before you will accept it.The Italian many are using in their rants, how do we know what his demands were?£ 60-70 grand a week.No one knows, but he chose another club. What we do know is,our scouting department were abysmal. No replacement for Dembele lined up.Their answer to the CH problem,Mc Kenna. Not another CH mentioned from the team that gave us Commper, and a project from Dundee. The Killie right back, ignored.

The problem is,at the moment,we have the best pool of players in the league by a country mile. For whatever reason, the manager at present, cant get them gelling as a unit.It will come, but to try and blame all the ills on the Board is nothing short of moronic. That team should be ripping up this league,as Liverpool and City are doing in England, because, they have the best players.Every other bit of noise is just,as many on here like to use, just a Squirrel to divert from the real problems. They are all on the park.
