Teams with inferior resources have figured out how to play us

426

Despite benefiting from the worst goal I’ve seen conceded against Celtic, a well-drilled by no more than competent Kilmarnock team came from behind to take all three points and leave Celtic at a multi-year low yesterday.

Excuses are available: the pitch, the fact that we made six changes to the starting 11, but the reality is yesterday’s performance was little different from what we have seen so often this season.  I could make a case that we were worse still in the home win over Hamilton.  The latter performance took place on a pristine Celtic Park with Dembele and Griffiths both starting.

Two seasons on, teams with vastly inferior resources have figured out how to play us and we have not figured out how to compensate for this reality.

I trust the manager.  He has delivered and deserves our faith.  He will get it right and deliver 8-in-a-row, but I fear for our treble on Wednesday night.  Having failed to win any of our three away games against Premiership opposition, the pattern is too complete to ignore.

Apologies for the radio silence on CQN yesterday.  The server was knocked off by the volume of visitors and the recovery process caused further issues.  Been ages since this has happened, but I suppose it’s been a while since we’ve had results like this.

  1. Mulumbu impressed me yesterday got on the ball a lot and played with a lot of determination and i wonder if Killie would have scored that headed winner if he and Benkovic were on the pitch with their extra height they can offer at set piece. This guy was not overawed playing in a Celtic shirt for the first time. So now we have another crocked central defender just when we thought the Croatian was the answer albeit temperary to our defensive problems.

When you take players like Dembele, Armstrong, Roberts and Scotty Sinclair with his form lapse out of the Celtic attack it is understandable that the flair and pomp of yore has taken a huge hit. However it’s early days and there is still 32 games left in the Championship race. Brendan and the team have to sort things out to deal with packed defenses and meet the big challenge ahead.

  2. RIP Jim Brogan

Great servant of Celtic and a great fullback and wing back.

Not to mention one of the toughest players ever to don the Hoops.

Deserved every honour he won wearing green and white, and a player you would want in every Cup Final Celtic reached, and he played in plenty.

Thank you Jim always, condolences to family, friends, and former team mates.

KT wisnae the MOTM against Rosenberg; he was given the award but Boyata or Benkovic were far better; for my money Ntcham and Brown were as well.

KT gets a free pass even for a bad game.

Brendan was leaving from the moment Seethin Gerrard was announced, at least thats what SMSM wanted to create.

Celtic fans ‘buy in’ the moment BR went too public on transfers and the rumour mill went into overdrive, as each poor result followed in the CL exit.

A wise poster said the only club that can prevent 10 in a row, is Celtic.

bada bing i remember all the managers and still loved them because they coached my team, they still had faults and upstairs more faults.

*naw not wee Skip tae Ma Lou or Mogga, this first one walked out on the Big Mhan, had talks with Liverpool, one of the local papers down there had a headline all ready tae go “Liverpool Lou” but walked out on Shanks tae who stated that it was a waste of time talking to him as he knew where he was going, the Doc had him tapped.

As for Mogga, might have given us the huddle but that was it, cost us a LC game at Hampden by stating after w had beat them 2-0 at hades that the hun forward line was meat and potatoes to him, that was posted on their dressing room wall and Chauncey scored their winner before running tae their end with his fake tears.

He also picked a player on a bossie going tae them on Black Sunday and was content tae sit on a 01- loss.

Wee Lou was only backed as far as the ould board could afford but Mogga was given plenty of money, he was aloud to sign MAF who cost us a fortune, pun intended, that followed with Robbie Keane, Jos Hooiveld, Morten Rasmussen, Edson Braafheid (who later on won a WC silver medal same as Henke) and Ki Sung-yueng, so much for PL not backing the manager.

I’m pretty confident we’ll come good as a team and that europe will be the tonic.

Panic is never constructive. Whether that’s in the boardroom, the dressing room, or in the stands. Hail hail negative bams

  10. If BR goes only Stephen Clarke or Lenny could replace him…but I doubt either would want the job…will be difficult for the next man…

Some guys on about ‘arrogance ‘,how arrogant is it to want rid of a guy who has gave us the Double Treble, and arguably our best manager since Jock Stein, who are we going to get who is better? Sure we have problems right now, this is when he needs to earn his corn.

*Said the same in the summer, IMHO BR has had a pretty easy ride up until now, Europe is an exception, now he has to earn his huge contract.

“We’ll still be here when you guys are long gone…”

    ******

Well some of us will be here. Some of us will be gone.

Some will be here who haven’t been born yet.

However, in recent memory we almost had a situation where we were all here and the club gone!

Players come and go. Managers come and go, but the club has to be viable and sustainable.

Fans without a club are like Belfast Celtic.

  13. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Kilmarnock on the plastic Rugby Park with there top rate manager Stevie Clarke will surprise more than just Celtic. It is in my opinion much to early to press the panic button but one thing does bother me and that is Brendans team selections some of the teams he has put out recently just dont make sense in my opinion we should allways play our strongest available side. To win games you must score goals and at the moment are struggling to find the net we must get behind the Bhoys and help them to find there lost confidence the Griff will come good and we will be in the mix for the SPL title come the end of the season. H.H.

I might be wrong (i usually am) , but was Stevie Clarcke not sounded out for the job before and said something along the lines , he would’nt put his family through all the nonesense that comes with it .

  15. Brendan will see out the season. We’ll know after the January transfer window whether he’ll be here next season.

  16. When you’re up against it, in bad form, you need to go back to basics. Make yourself hard to beat and work your way out of it. And pick players you can trust. Yesterday i commented before the match that the team looked solid from back to middle, but when i saw Hendry on the pitch that went out of the window. On Wednesday i would go with the same back 7 as was supposed to start yesterday assuming Benkovic is fit. That will give us a solid platform.

The trouble thereafter is we need the front four to score the goals and create chances. Griffiths has scored in the post two games and whilst he wasn’t very good yesterday overall he deserves to start. I would go wth Edouard on the left of the three and Morgan on the right. You could pick anyone from three for the no10 role but the smart money is on the Managers favourite McGregor. Of course with around 10 players to pick from and only 4 spaces BR will probably choose something different. The game will be won or lost depending on what front four is selected and what they can conjure up.

  17. Ron 67………….. Couldn’t agree more regarding Leigh Griffiths. What in God’s name is a top class striker doing taking corner kicks when his place should be in the box. As you say probably unique in World football.

  18. MARSPAPA- I think that was just after Neill was subjected to the bombs and bullets from the Ibrox Gang,

  19. pet hate of mine , can we not get someone else to take the corner kicks and free up LG to be available to play the second ball , he is by the way our centre forward and we rely on his finishing , so why oh why do we send him to the furthest away point from the 6 yard line where he is needed most.

  20. FAIRHILL BHOY, sitting on balcony in Madrid having a beer waiting on wife and friends getting ready, seen you asking for me last night on another blog cheers for that all the best to you and family, away now to spend some quality time with them HH
