Teams with inferior resources have figured out how to play us

426

Despite benefiting from the worst goal I’ve seen conceded against Celtic, a well-drilled by no more than competent Kilmarnock team came from behind to take all three points and leave Celtic at a multi-year low yesterday.

Excuses are available: the pitch, the fact that we made six changes to the starting 11, but the reality is yesterday’s performance was little different from what we have seen so often this season.  I could make a case that we were worse still in the home win over Hamilton.  The latter performance took place on a pristine Celtic Park with Dembele and Griffiths both starting.

Two seasons on, teams with vastly inferior resources have figured out how to play us and we have not figured out how to compensate for this reality.

I trust the manager.  He has delivered and deserves our faith.  He will get it right and deliver 8-in-a-row, but I fear for our treble on Wednesday night.  Having failed to win any of our three away games against Premiership opposition, the pattern is too complete to ignore.

Apologies for the radio silence on CQN yesterday.  The server was knocked off by the volume of visitors and the recovery process caused further issues.  Been ages since this has happened, but I suppose it’s been a while since we’ve had results like this.

  1. 50 shades…it’s not crap…if BR and PL have fallen out then it’s not going to be repaired. The trust is gone and the team will suffer. One of them has to go…and, as it is unlikely PL will go, then it has to be BR…to hang around will only damage the players and his own reputation…I’m just sick of the overblown egos that are harming the team…btw, I am not a spoiled git who has lost the plot, just a realist. If it’s not working, it has to be fixed…it won’t fix itself…

  2. ‘Some or others’…too much of a sweeping statement.

We are in tough times but I SUPPORT the club & the manager.

Hope we get through this as I am sure others will.

  3. And btw, I am not an ‘alleged’ Celtic fan…another poster who wants to impose his opinions on others…

No I can’t, just what I have read on here with no rebuttals from anyone.

If the board, the PR from the club were inclined to share { selected } information with the people who pay their wages, the need for idle speculation wouldn’t be required, they could teach the masonic lot a thing or two about secrecy.

  5. My friends in Celtic,

Imo Steve Clarke hasn’t got the necessary charisma to manage us. Putting a team on the park is only part of the job.

BR is the perfect fit for us. However as an intelligent man , he will know we need to get it right. The worst start to a league in 20 years doesn’t make good reading.

    HH to all.

PS : what have Patrick Roberts, Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong got in common. ? They leave Paradise and cannot get a game. I will watch their careers with interest and best wishes.

    “Our treble”?

    Good God almighty.

Ever read the Greek dramas, Paul?

    Hubris and all that?

Bit of humility wouldn’t go wrong, eh.

  7. `… it’s common knowledge that Paul has the ear of Peter Lawwell, it’s common knowledge that some of the CQN blogs are published with the say so from on high at the club,`

I`ll be polite. That is uncommonly hypothetical.

  8. HOT SMOKED

So when a newbie says it, it’s uncommonly hypothetical, it’s been posted on here for years that Paul has the ear of Lawwell, as I said to Adi with no rebutals, why has that changed now, doesn’t fit with the Lawwell can do no wrong agenda ?

The three you mention in your PS have one very necessary commodity in common…..a willingness ,when faced by defenders , to take them on rather than stop and pass back/sideways. At the moment we seem to have only one player (KT) who has this as part of his game , but lately he seems reluctant to do it until later in the game when the chips are down. Forrest has stopped doing what he does best , and Sinclair isn’t even worth a seat on the bench on current form. Johnston and Morgan , especially the latter, look as though they could provide this much needed spark. The worst that could happen is that we win a few free kicks around the box for Griff or Ntcham to have a go.

  10. Hot Smoked- the blog is much more aligned to the Celtic Board and policies, than it was when it started HH

With respect I don’t think it suits ‘the board’ to create a divided support, especially if as you say theres only one winner anyway, I do think it suits our rivals. 56, 000 for the inferior Europa Cup was Europe’s second highest attendance and feels like our support is backing the club, despite football blogs, big or small.

Wealthy men in the fantasy of football clubs will always fall out about the running of Celtic.

In the modern era alone Tommy Burns and Wim Jansen very quickly fell out, with those running Celtic’s finances, and up to date so did Neil Lennon and his close friend Brendan Rodgers allegedly. Presently, we’ve no idea of the extent of a fall out, despite the body language experts and rumour mongers aided by SMSM who’ll stoke any Celtic stories they can, and even write them for you.

Brendan Rodgers has to earn the massive salary he signed up to, and I’m confident that’s his focus, with games coming thick and fast.

As someone has already said its time for us to circle the wagons.

“So you think the stuff you post is worth reading, you are still on the toilet duck.”

If you can read, I’m sure you can, re read what I posted, nowhere did I say anything like what you have quoted me as saying.

I am not that vain to think I post stuff people want to read, I post my thoughts, you make a habit of slagging off posters who you don’t agree with.

  15. And this thing about Griffiths taking the corners…so what? No one else takes a good one…N’tcham hits first man and CmcG floats them to beyond the back post…only Boyata seems capable of getting on the end of a ball into the box…Kane takes them for Spurs and I saw Mo Salah take for Liverpool on Saturday…not the main issue…

I’ve no idea if Brendan and Peter have fallen out mate, your whole premise there is IF, you might know better than me but until one of them says our working relationship is over then they will work together imho.

And as for me trying to” impose my opinion ” on others, dont see it mate were did I do that, I called out people for starting to mention whose next if Brendan leaves, bit early for that mince dont you think .

So mate dont have your whole premise based on” IF this or If that ” we have the papers for that crap. Deal in facts, if you know the facts between them come out and say it, other wise it is crap mate.

  17. BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 7:51 PM

As you said we don’t know the facts, so what do we do, we speculate, I have listened and read to what the manager has stated publicly, I can see with my own eyes and ears that there is a problem surrounding the club just now, the cause is probably down to quite a few factors, I doubt that there is one thing or person to blame, the support will choose sides, it’s what they do, the manager needs to get his act together as does the CEO, can this happen, I hope so but doubt it.

We are in the hands of the football gods.

No toilet duck was taken in the production of this post.

‘No I can’t, just what I have read on here with no rebuttals from anyone.’

Does that justify the detail….? No

‘They could teach the masonic lot a thing or two about secrecy.’

If you think Celtic will come out & say anything about what the internals are…I think you will be waitin a long time.

IMO I dont want the club to go into that detail as the scum press are desperados for stuff like that & are jumpin on it now.

  19. Oh for a return to those days of good old fashioned factual journalism!

    When exactly was that then?

  20. The remnants of a once proud football club, lay in a pile of ashes, on a football pitch, in Athens, a few weeks ago.

    Tic, toc…..

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  21. So, 4 losses in 96 domestic games and some numpties on here are calling for Strachan, Lennon or Clarke to replace him? Jeez.

The treble has been in our possession for 2 years, so I do consider it ours until such time as some other fortunate captain gets to lift one of the trophies.

    In Brendan I trust.

  22. Adi-Dassler

When I said it was common knowledge, it is just that, common knowledge, there will be very few posters who will rebut this, I am not stating facts, just posting what I think that most on here and other blogs believe that Paul has the ear of Peter Lawwell.

I know I will die before the board tell us anything, that’s why I put the word selected in { }, they tell us nothing, even if they attempted to pacify the support by feeding us garbage it would be better than nothing, at least we could argue over what the garbage meant.

  23. We do not play to players strengths.

JF has pace to burn but when was the last time someone put the ball behind defender for him to attack?

Though he seems perfectly happy standing still and facing Craig Gordon most of the time.

Young Johnston has the ability to take on players but Lustig yesterday constantly turned back and passed the ball to the central defenders rather than give him the chance to do so.

Morgan looked like he wanted to take opponents on yesterday but how long before that nonsense is knocked out of him and he starts making simple backwards and sideways passes?

Griff is a shooter but we have now trained him to play with his back to goal and go wide.

Calum can shoot and create from central areas but now spends time drifting aimlessly to the touchline.

  24. MNCELT

Those stats are good due to a brilliant first season.

But there was a marked decline last season and this one looks like it will be worse.

A new tactical approach is needed .

Ask the Arsenal fans where the sentiment to Wenger’s first few seasons got them in the long run?

  25. 50 shades….IF you can smell crap it’s probably on your shoe or your nose is too near your arse…

  26. IF there is an ongoing problem between BR and PL, can it be rectified? Yes? Great! Get it sorted…

IF not, what is the solution? When there is a loss of trust between partners, what’s the best step to take?

Unfortunately, in football there is no such thing as a trial separation…Lawwell looks favourite to stay, he’s DD’s man after all…so, let’s be practical, what do we do? Any suggestions?

Write them on a postcard and send them to…..whoever.

  27. Fan a Tic

Wenger had some very good players at his disposal when he joined them, he also signed a few quality players, then it all went to the dogs.

  28. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 8:04 PM

And this thing about Griffiths taking the corners…so what?

‘so what’ if our return from corners taken is poor from LG our centre forward and dead ball experts delivery then you would think that allowing anyone else to take then and allow our No.9 to take his rightful position in the box ‘alert and in right position’ playing the second ball would be more beneficial for us.

  29. Media stoked disharmony abounds. Made up pash about splits and resignations when its clear that we are seeing a rerun of Ronny Ds plan of sticking rigidly to plan a, and to just keep trying different players in a now redundant formation. Time for a plan b involving on form players.

  30. Fan-a-tic

In my view, that’s a very hunnish attitude (not you pal, talking generally). I think we give Brendan a chance to earn his corn

  31. There was discord between BR and PL after the Transfer Window, DD should have stepped in during the international break, if he couldn’t sort it ,then serious decisions should have been made IMO.

  32. BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2018 @ 07.51 pm.

Absolutely remarkable attendance against a very well aquainted, but not box office team in the so called inferior European league.

Just about every team in the competition wish they could replicate our magnificent support.
