Teams with inferior resources have figured out how to play us

Despite benefiting from the worst goal I’ve seen conceded against Celtic, a well-drilled by no more than competent Kilmarnock team came from behind to take all three points and leave Celtic at a multi-year low yesterday.

Excuses are available: the pitch, the fact that we made six changes to the starting 11, but the reality is yesterday’s performance was little different from what we have seen so often this season.  I could make a case that we were worse still in the home win over Hamilton.  The latter performance took place on a pristine Celtic Park with Dembele and Griffiths both starting.

Two seasons on, teams with vastly inferior resources have figured out how to play us and we have not figured out how to compensate for this reality.

I trust the manager.  He has delivered and deserves our faith.  He will get it right and deliver 8-in-a-row, but I fear for our treble on Wednesday night.  Having failed to win any of our three away games against Premiership opposition, the pattern is too complete to ignore.

Apologies for the radio silence on CQN yesterday.  The server was knocked off by the volume of visitors and the recovery process caused further issues.  Been ages since this has happened, but I suppose it’s been a while since we’ve had results like this.

He made them invincibles, that was down to top class man management.

What has happened to knock the team out of kilter is what the support are going balistic about, one side are blaming the manager, the other the board, the truth will be somewhere in the middle.

Agreed. He was able to get better performances out of those players than Ronny Deila.

    Not so much now.

  2. The Liam Miller tribute match is not available in the UK & Ireland, overseas only. MUTV are showing it, so why not CTV?…?

  3. We’re 1 point behind the huns – who I believe will be our main “challengers” this season, despite a good start from the minis and a bad start by ourselves. For the time being, we have the squad we have and (IMHO) enough quality – I expect Brendan will get the most out of them, as he does every season.

According to Lenny we’re going to win our 8th league title on the trot – is this P67 grade “hubris” or just the considered opinion of a guy who watches a lot of football?

Liam Millar game is on Virgin Media 3 in Ireland, starting at 2pm.

Good managers are like good teachers.

They have to inspire with their words as well as their knowledge.

Players, like pupils, get bored listening to the same mantras day in and day out and eventually get bored and switch off.

I think that is one reason why managers have a shelf life at a club, therefore if a manager can’t be innovative and update his tactics, he is gone.

Only in Scotland could you have ex Rainjurz, and an ex Sevco player, sitting on the Kilmarnock bench during a Celtic defeat giving his OPINION in a national newspaper

Come on now – this legendary goalscorer did once score against Celtic. About ten years ago. That makes him well qualified to comment

Sensible post T, unlike others on here. Many lack the perspective you have given us.

The bottom line is that, in comparison to previous displays, our recent displays (this and the end of last season) have been of a poorer quality. It is about our lack of ability to turn shots on goal into actual goals. We are still creating chances and having a lot of shots at the goal, but many are not of the clear-cut variety. This was the same with Dembele at the end of last season and the beginning of this season, so losing Dembele wasn’t the reason.

We have a number of creative players, but no one of the Lubo or Naka variety that can, in a crowded attacking midfield area, deliver a killer pass to split a packed defence. Nor do we have a Henke who can find that half-yard of space needed to be in the precise location required to receive that killer pass and make it count.

It was interesting to see Boyata attempting a number of long cross-field passes against Kilmarnock; maybe because those in front of him in the midfield were not getting into the areas to receive a pass; maybe he was tired of knocking a 10 yard pass to Lustig or Tierney just to get it back again. Both Rogic and McGregor have been misfiring recently and although Johnstone shows a lot of promise, he’s not yet fulfilling the role required to get by the defender and penetrate the penalty box; it will come, but it will take time, possibly by cameo appearances rather than starting the game.

The manager and his coaching team are also at fault for not varying the tactics enough when the passing game is too slow to penetrate a crowded midfield and defence. The trio of Brown, Ntcham and Mumumbu would certainly add strength and vigour to the midfield and Ntcham would be able to move forward in a more attacking role; a role I think he is very good in. That means dropping McGregor, Forrest or Rogic but until we can start taking games by the scruff of the neck and winning some battles then we are maybe 1 flair player too many in the attacking sense just now.

The hard work must start in Perth tomorrow night and the players on the park must step up in terms of energy, commitment and passion to show the fans that they know that at this time they are in a bit of a dog-fight.

However, we must still keep the start of the season in perspective; Hearst have had a flyer but I fully expect them to drop back; Aberdeen are a point behind us with Sevco and His only a point in front of us. We are still well in there despite Sevco and Hibs apparently having great start to the season with ours putting us in crisis. It’s only six games gone and another 32 to go. The performances have been disappointing and we MUST improve, but we are not in crisis yet and are a long way from it I reckon.

  7. Listen there is no doubt Brendan is a great manager. The problem is,like everyone else,he has his weak points. It was his undoing at Liverpool eventually. His failure to address the defensive problems. We could all see last season we had a problem in defence. It was not sorted in the window. To me that was were he should have been battering on PLs door and demanding.Instead we got the Mc Ginn saga, who, although a good player, should never have been near the top of our list. Our midfield was our strongest dept. There were plenty out there,Congerton just did’nt know. How many on here were going on about the Killie right back?Even for Scotland ,the boy performs very well.Would have given us a bit of solidity.

I think the problem with Boyata was just blind panic, through not targeting a replacement.Thats down to Congerton and Brendan. Was anyone impressed with the Mc Kenna bid?Reeked of ineptness.Mc Kenna and Ajer, would have given us even more sleepless nights.Add in Hendry and Commper, and its Nightmare On Janefield Street.

Hang in here until January. We will see the mettle of both PL and Brendan.

Congerton,I have given up on.Useless.Sunderland knew that already.
