Technical review needed after Real game

882

The trip to the US to play Real Madrid is core to strategy for Celtic right now.  It allowed the significant North American support an easier opportunity to see the team, keeps the club’s profile high among the game movers and shakers and will have contributed valuable financial resources.

You know there’s a ‘but’ coming, don’t you.

Gary Hooper, Anthony Stokes and Daryl Murphy all picked up or aggravated strains on the trip.  The players are still stepping up their fitness regimes.  Muscles are being stressed, then rested, then stresses a little further.  Returning from two lengthy flights with a high incidence of non-contact injuries suggests we need to review how we prepare athletes for travel.

Do you like the new-look Celtic Quick News?  Some fundamental changes have engineered into the back-end which should make things more solid going forward.  More new features will come on-stream shortly.  My enormous thanks to Kev, who designed the template and everything new in the engine room.

Don’t forget, if you have an article in you for CQN Magazine email me: articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk and let me know what you would like to write about. I’ll be able to give you some pointers. Next edition coming soon.

  1. A fair chance Mulgrew will get crocked by that wee hun Black in training, take him out now Neil,we have bigger fish to fry.

Thanks for the welcome fholks! Sorry if I miss any posts – work interfering (and just when I was getting started on here!)

DBBIA – Marv Levy is a legend (note the correct spelling!). Just a pity when he came back a few years ago and things didnt work out for him). His book “Where else would you rather be” is a fantastic read.

Jungle Jim – Been a fan of the Buffalo Bills NFL team for nearly 25 years so combining my two loves. My wife does complain that my Bills jersey makes me look like a hun since it is red white and blue! :-)

The 1st one about Miller is genuine. The 2nd i have used artistic licence :)

I have just seen the moral coward on SSN furiously backtracking on his statement about Div3 players last week

I will laugh heartily if Black gets injured playing for Scotland. However I think it is far more likely he will be the one doing the injuring…..some poor Aussie is going to be hopping like a kangaroo by the end of the game.

  5. Re Layout. As someone in a certain movie once said:

“That’ll wake you up in the morning bhoy.”

Paul At the Philly game, Real looked far fitter, more energetic much more athletic in every part of the field. Whether it was jet lag, the heat or just that Real had two previous games here I don’t know.

However, even at this stage of the season, I feel that we are not sufficiently fit to compete at our best levels.

What happened to our sports science fitness program much beloved of Gordon Strachan? Has it suffered in the current financial climate? Has the French doctor we had, I can’t remember his name, been replaced?

  6. Is it not the case that Sevco’s season tickets cost more than buying single game tickets over the season?

  7. Ten Men- This may have something to do with huns buying single tickets,no laughing now…..FF has just realised that you can pay into the Govan Stand on a game by game basis approx £5 per game cheaper than ST.

    Beautiful

I , too, am a Bills fan . Actually, “was” is more accurate. I lived near Buffalo for a while ( when Kelly was the QB) and loved the unpredictable manner in which the Bills played. I still would watch if they were on Channel 4 but I couldn`t tell you much about them now.

PS I agree with your wife.

PPS Do you live in the States?

  9. Off to watch some more of ‘In Treatment’…..Gabriel Byrne is far more interesting than Craig Levein…..and I feel the need for some therapy even if it’s by proxy and all pretendy nonsense.

Makes as much sense as anything else in this world turned upside down.

‘Koyannasqatsi’…..a world out of balance. Ancient Hopi Indian prophecy.

    And here we are.

    Livin’ the dream.

    Aye….right.

  10. I don’t see the lack of SB sales causing that much of a problem to an astute businessman like Charles Green. After all, if they know they are going to sell, say 25,000 single tickets for every home game throughout the season then surely he can just approach one of those ticketing factor firms and borrow the money before it comes in?

    Oh, wait a minute…

Curious that Strathclyde police force failed to act upon the same obvious evidence.

    alex thomson‏@alextomo

@sonicscott1 the conduct of Strathclyde Police over this was shameful, quite possibly corrupt. I will say no more – for now.

be good if he found a new corrupt organisation to investigate

  12. “But if we leave fans to one side for a moment, while ever that lot are against us, I’m not leaving. There’s no-one spoke for this club for three or four years. It’s not had anyone standing up.

“I am going to get fined every week, I suspect, or I will get banned.”

Aye right Charlie, not leaving until the share issue and you and your ‘investors’ run a mile with the cash.

  13. I am almost hoping for the Aussies to hump us if it means getting rid of Levein.

With him in charge we have no chance of qualifying.

    saltires en sevilla,

A terrific itinerary. I will not be risking it though due to the ticketing prob.

    Think their ground holds 17.5k.

A shame as flights from Tooting to Malmo and Copenhagen are keenly priced.

You will regret not going big man :) I can sense something special happening in Europe this season …don’t ask me to explain Btw!

Dushanbe I am like an oul’ salmon slowly working my way back up the river to the seat of the Great de Wallis …i was always a bit wary of PA9 ..far too close to Kilbirnie and Beith for my bluid mon!

Just kiddin any Celts from those far flung parts. :)

The Bills were doing not too bad for the first half of last season, but then fell away.

Patriots still No1 in the AFC East :-)

It’ll be a fight for second again this year I think between the Bills, Jets and Dolphins.

BBB, I know how you feel about wearing a Bills top!

To wear a Pats red, white and blue top takes a bit of getting used to.

Jungle Jim – Wow, dont meet too many Bills fans round these parts! Good to make your acquaintance. I am born and raised in Glasgow with no connection to the Bills. I just started watching them in the late 80s and chose them because they were high scoring and because they were not the Dolphins, Cowboys, Raiders or 49ers etc. (Apart from Celtic I always go with the underdog!). I have made it out to 7 games, most recently the Eagles @ Bills last year. I watch the games every week using NFL gamepass and get the Bills Digest magazine sent out to me weekly. My house is full of Bills gear including signed photos, helmets and a 4 foot long photo of RW stadium – I am a tad obsessed! :-)

  19. Richie

I will be supporting the Aussies. As far as I am concerned, “Rangers” `well being still mean more to the SFA than does the success of the national side. Until that changes, you can include me out as a supporter of Scotland`s football team.

I lived in Brockport, NY and visited Buffalo a few times (my then girlfriend lived there). I liked the place….had a good feel about it but never actually got to visit the RW. Good to talk with you.

PS I, too, am from Glasgow but now live in Arbroath (better stop. Beginning to resemble one of those rambling posts Kev was referring too!)

    Shocking decision.

I wonder who has told him to pick the thug.

I’ll wager that Charlie will play the full game as well.

If I were Celtic, I would pull him out, after all the huns did it with impunity.

  25. ok, probably only me, but…

    on the laptop (win7, ie9) everything’s hunkydory.

on the phone though (android 2.4) there’s an odd thing…

the “share on f’book or twitter” buttons don’t appear. now, personally that makes no difference to me, and it might just be some quirk of my browser. buti thought i’d let you know incase it’s a wee bug no-one’s spotted.

also, the page width, to scroll across to the right hand edge of the page on my android is huge. there’s nothing there, so it’s not really an issue, and again it could just be how my browser’s set up, but just thought i’d give you the feedback.

Scot Pats Fan – I was wondering when I would meet you “face to face”. All I can say is that we are gonna prove last year was not a fluke but this team we’ll beat you home AND away. Mario Williams can’t wait to hit Brady a few times ;-)
