Celtic delivered a textbook performance in securing the win in Trondheim last night. Rosenborg are bottom of the group and were effectively out of the competition before kick-off, but only a year ago Anderlecht came to Glasgow after five Champions League defeats and wiped the floor with Celtic (Anderlecht remain a poor side, accruing only two points in a weak Europa League group this season).
This was Celtic’s third away win in European group stages, but the second in two seasons. If we have genuine ambition to progress in Europe, we needed to win games like last night’s.
The contrast between this performance and the one in the same stadium in Augusts’ qualifiers was stark. In the earlier game Celtic were poor in possession, unable to impose themselves on a Rosenborg team who needed a goal to draw the tie level. Instead we ground out a 0-0. Last night, the passing, pace and control from Celtic was vastly better. Rosenborg didn’t get a sniff.
James Forrest ended a spectacular month by creating the winning goal for Scott Sinclair. Scott still had plenty to do to guide his header into the top corner of the net.
Defensively Celtic were imperious. Any anxieties were limited to what potentially could happen when the home side were able to lob a set piece into the box, but chances were limited, giving Craig Gordon one of his easiest games on the road this season.
By full time, the players looked exhausted. My mind immediately turned to Aberdeen players, who will have watched from the comfort of their homes. It is easy to say, “Go again”, but players are not machines. Sunday will be the seventh time they have climbed the domestic mountain in succession.
Legs and minds will be tired. If Celtic lift the trophy at Hampden, heroics will be required. But this is Celtic, so we have hope in our hearts.

Well the usual caveats apply, insofar as I’m in no way an expert on this and welcome enlightenment from the wiser heids…
Reading through reports and TSFM who are in a class of their own with this stuff… Easy Jambo and JC attending Court and gleaming the facts and nuances.
It seems to me, in broad brush stroke terms…
Before proceedings TOPs seemed to come to an agreement with DCK regarding the offer he was supposed to make, which from what I can gather was this…
DCK has to make an offer to RIFC shareholders who are outside his concert party to buy their shares at 20p per share. If over 50% want to sell the purchase goes ahead.
Now the concert party had 34% of the shares, so the threshold for the offer to take place is 33% (half if the 66% out the concert party).
One of DCK’s arguments for not going ahead with this has been that the offer won’t meet the threshold therefore the whole things a waste of (his) time and money, money that he swears he doesn’t have.
Of course TOPs view has been that all of that doesn’t matter the rules are an offer MUST be made, an offer that complies with their regulations.
DCK doesn’t seem to have got the rules and regulations bit…
So they seemed to have reached a compromise… TOPs seem to have accepted that if DCK can get 33% of the offerees to give an “irrevocable undertaking'” that they won’t take up the offer, he doesn’t have to proceed.
This I believe is the basis for the rather bizarre goings on in the Court yesterday. For although shareholders such as Club 1872 seemed to be willing to give the undertaking, it seems DCK was short of his 33% target so made certain claims to get him over the line…
One was that RIFC had put a block on some shares as they believe that the shareholders could be involved in organised crime and using the shares to money launder.
If DCK bought these shares knowingly then he could be deemed complicit. Therefore he deemed these shares could go towards “his” 33%.
Also there were shareholders who he believed indicated to him they wouldn’t sell the shares, such as Mr Easdale but would not give a legally binding irrevocable undertaken. He nonetheless deemed that these shares could go towards “his” 33% also. Later Mr Easdale refuted the suggestion that he’d given any undertaken of this sort to DCK.
The court of course did not accept that either the non binding undertakings or the suspended criminal shareholdings could be excluded from the offer… as it wasn’t backed up by legally binding evidence would be my guess.
However making these claim in court seems totally bizarre. They put DCK in the position where an allegation that he misled court could be made and the reputation of RIFC PLC is further tarnished by connection to organised crime and money laundering. For me it has the appearance of drowning men and strawz.
