Time for an inquest into fragile Celtic limbs

822

One of the things Neil Lennon may have on his agenda for the international break is an inquest into the physical condition of his playing squad.  The season is a month old and Celtic have an injury list which would wipe out pretty much every other team in the country.  If this was an isolated occurrence it would be no more than curious but we have written about, and discussed, the fragile limbs of Celtic players since the Lennoxtown Training Centre opened nearly five years ago.

Since then Celtic ‘lost’ (more on that at a later date) three leagues by a maximum of six points and lost valuable form and points due to first choice players sitting in the stands on match day.

On Saturday our central midfield was without Ledley, Brown, Wanyama, Kayal and McGeouch (on a non-fitness related injury), while even auxiliary stand-in for central mid, Charlie Mulgrew, was on the list of others getting treatment.

The run of bad luck has moved clearly into the realms of statistical relevance.  It is not luck at all, we are doing something wrong.

Football clubs look to sports science to deliver multiple objectives.  Competitive pressure is put on players to become faster and to be able to run as effectively late in games as they can in the opening minutes (which for now is a physical impossibility but remains a key target), but we are clearly missing a trick.

Hi Paul. IMHO, NO!, we are not doing anything wrong at all, and YES!, this is absolutely staistically relevant! What is happening is that we are getting kicked all over the park, under the watchful eyes of the clearly biased (statistically and otherwise) Scottish Referees. I know it, you know it, the Celtic Support know it, Craig Levein knew it before his head was turned, SFL3 teams now know it, and every fair-minded fan in Scotland knows it. To me it is no coincidence that we have had some good performances in Europe when we are allowed to play football on a level playing field.

Surely it is time to do something about this? Sort the Referees and the statistical skew towards injuries for Celtic Players will dissapear. (Well, statistically anyway.)

    Yours in Celtic,

Best way to sort the obvious problem wi the referees in Scotland is to move to summer football.

    Including the marching season………

  4. Low cost airline Jet2.com has announced and extra Glasgow flight to Barcelona for Celtic’s upcoming UEFA Champions League tie.

The Parkhead side will face FC Barcelona on Tuesday, October 23, and the Leeds-based airline has arranged for a special Jet2.com flight to leave Glasgow Airport at 11.20am.

A return flight will depart Barcelona Airport at 2pm on Wednesday, October 24, to bring fans back to the west of Scotland.

  5. Because of one club, the huns wi’ a whistle culture epitomised by Dullas, the corrupt undermining of the game by a mason infested set of governing bodies, the game in Scotland is finished. Irrevocably. Get used to it. And someone please get us out if this rotten setup, because that’s all it is : one big setup for the loyalist culture.

  12. Just read the Levante statement and , as ever nowadays, seems there was an element of agent mischief making or trying to cut a deal.

Nowhere in the statement do Levante mention taking action against Celtic or, for that matter, the player.

Makes me wonder why Shortbread and the MSM in general were touting out so loudly that UEFA could take action against us.

Yet more wishes denied them and shameful, though not unexpected, reporting from the MSM.

We should kick the lot of them out and deny them all, not just Keevins, access to CP using Press passes.

    Personally I believe the following

1 That everyone claiming unemployment benefit (except for those who are physically unable to do so, and therefore should be on DLA) should have to work in their community to claim their money.

    2. Pensioners should be given a 100% rise in their state pensions.

    3. Pensioners who have a private pension should be given everything a pensioner who gets a state pension gets (in addition to their private income)!

    4. Gas, Electricity, Water and Public Transport companies should be re-nationalised and be run as non-profit making organisation. But should charge enough to modernise the sysyems they use.

    5. Fuel duty should be cut by 50%.

    6. The Human Rights Act should be scrapped and a Bill of Rights introduced for citizens of the country.

    7. We should get the hell out of the EU (and the UK)

    8. Life should mean life and if you are sentenced to say 10 years, you serve 10 years.

    9. Judges, the Procurator Fiscals and Chief Inspectors of the Police should be made to stand for election so the public can decide if they are doing a good job.

10 . Free prescriptions, dental care and eye tests for all citizens.

    11. No death penalty – EVER.

    12. Prisoners should get basic facilities, no perks whatsoever. (btw, perks means Tv, visitors, phone calls etc) Make prison a place you never want to go back to

    13. There should be 2 seperate elected houses in parliement and no person is allowed to sit in one for more than 15 years. No more old boys clubs. MPs must have actually worked in the real world for a minimum of 10 yearsd before standing for election

    14. The government should build a minimum of 100000 houses for social rent each year for the next 10 years.

15 . To gain entry to the country to work you must be able to speak english fluently and be able to support yourself and your family for at least 2 years (as they do in Australia) if you do not.

    16. Scrap the royal family

    17. All aliens (legal or illegal) who commit a crime are deported, with no right of appeal.

    18. Methadone programme scrapped

19 All monies raised from Road tax is actually spent on the roads

20 All people who work for any Government run organisation banned from being a member of the masons, the OO or any other secret society.

  22. Oh Dear, I feel I must say something here.

Slovaks and Poles coming to Britain cannot be solely blamed for the increase in spending.

I personally know hundreds of folks who went to the UK, did a job for a time and went home minus claiming any kind of benefit – disability or otherwise just as I work over here and claim no benefits whatsoever. It is and was a life choice to improve the quality of your life. Some folk cheat the system from Eastern Europe but so do plenty born and bred in the country as well as from NON-EU countries.

Unless you have figures to hand about benefit cheats/fraudsters all being Eastern Europeans it is unfair to tar them as the reason for an increase. EU citzens of all member states including Western Europeans – French, German, Spanish etc have the same rights as Eastern Europeans and can work in the UK, live there and no doubt claim disability benefit truthfully or fraudulently so it is wrong to simply have a go at folks from where I reside.

Slovakia in particular is a country of 5M people – the same as Bonnie Scotland. I don’t think all 5M have traveled to the UK so I’d be interested to see how many actually are there currently.

You all know I reside over here and I am entitled to employment and should I decide to get full -time residence here (something I can do November 2013) I would be entitled to more benefits and of course re-employment. I agree that other countries have more strict policies but that’s just life. Change the system.

In general Eastern Europeans who have gone to Britain have worked hard and honestly doing jobs that British people (peepel probably) are unwilling to do or at least were unwilling to do when the boom years were there.

I am not looking for a fight or having a go at any particular posters but I get fed up to the back teeth of these discussions where blame is laid at the door of Eastern Europeans when Western Europeans have the same rights and Germans (or any other nationality) can be lazy nogoodniks too.

Quite frankly when you discuss many of the problems that Britain and British people have (although naturally not everyone) you’d think the place was all clambouring to be on the Jeremy Kyle show.

If I offended any posters with what I wrote above I apologize but believe me I do find this very frustrating.

I was once assured on a return to Scotland at Christmas time by “friends” that we couldn’t possibly get a taxi for a trip into town because the traffic was too bad and there was too much snow.

When I replied that cars over here travel at Christmas time in far worse snowy conditions I was met with the lovely response – Aye but there’s more cars on the road over here than there and people here don’t travel with horses and carts.

Suffice to say this chap was not a Celtic fan but I have heard similar from Celtic fans – after Celtic played Rapid Vienna I was heading back to Scotland for Christmas and met many Celtic fans in Bratislava flying home also – when I explained I teach Slovaks for a living I was met with one guy saying “Aye so they can come o’er here and take all our jobs”.

    Shocking.

Imagine our forefathers coming to Scotland (if that was the case I cannot speak for everyone) and being met with similar attitudes. I never thought Celtic fans would end up doing the same but there you go.

As I say, I do not want to pick a fight or offend anyone but I think that kind of talk is unbecoming and I generally keep out of political discussions but if you lived in a country where the average wage is 500 Euro or less a month as it is in Slovakia and you had a family to feed – what would you do?

  23. Paul, it must be the telepathy thing.

Only yesterday I was thinking about Lennoxtown and injuries.

It seems like some time ago now that NL was connecting Lennoxtown playing surfaces and multiple injuries.

It is to be hoped that PL has not been having another bout of fiscal prudence, this time surrounding the possible relaying of surfaces at the training complex.

    Wc Melville says:

I would suggest you do a little more research on the Author who is a well known IRA activist who lies through his teeth about himself. Here are some questions for him:

    1. You once described Graham Spiers as your “new pal”. Subsequently, Spiers described you as “an odd and slightly vulnerable man”. How do you answer these allegations? Do Mr. Spiers’ claims have anything to do with your mental illness?

    2. How do you answer internet allegations that you were part-responsible for the death of a pensioner in your care during your time with Glasgow Social Work Department?

    3. How do you answer internet allegations that you abused a young boy at a five-a-side football venue whilst you worked at Glasgow Social Work Department, resulting in one of your colleagues, namely ex-Morton player Jim Rooney, threatening you with violence?

    4. Please explain fully the circumstances surrounding your departure from your position with Glasgow Social Work Department and indeed your subsequent departure from Scotland.

    5. You claim to be a journalist. Please supply details of any relevant qualifications you hold and any full-time permanent employment you have held, and the publication(s) that employed you.

    6. Why have you used three different surnames during your adult life, namely Gillivan, McGillivan and Mac Gorrilla Brain?

    7. You once claimed live on Real Radio that your daughter Roisin was 8 years old when you explained The Famine Song to her, and that as a result, she was reduced to tears. Registrar records show Roisin to have been 14 at the time. Why did you lie? Was it in an attempt to invoke sympathy?

    8. Is it fair to say that you are currently unemployed? If not, please name your employer.

    9. Talking on the Slugger O’Toole website of your time as an SNP activist, you described yourself and your colleagues in the East End of Glasgow as “the SNP Provos”. Please explain why you used this term.

    10. On the same website, you claimed to have “five brothers……a big family of fighting Irish.” The Registrar of births shows that your mother Bridgette had one child other than yourself, a girl, your sister. What made you tell this lie?

    11. You recently claimed (on your blog) that you “regularly frequented a rather exclusive gentleman’s club in North Belfast…….The Felon’s Club in New Lodge”, a drinking establishment you claim was for Provisional IRA ex-Prisoners. Extensive enquiries concluded that no such club exists, or has ever existed. Can you explain why you concocted this fantasist lie?

    12. Please state clearly the reasons for your wife Kathleen leaving you.

    13. A “schoolteacher from Donegal” (with a Glasgow accent) phoned Real Radio claiming he and his children had been terrorised on a ferry trip from N.I. to Scotland, by bigoted, drunken, violent Rangers fans. Strangely enquiries to both the ferry company and supporters buses that had made the trip, found the “schoolteachers” pronunciations to be a pack of lies. You boasted on CelticMinded.com of having made the call, and you were subsequently banned from Real Radio. Why did you do this?
