Two faces of Sturgeon for Celtic/Aberdeen and Newco

281

Ask anyone at Celtic Park or Pittodrie what the consequences are when players at Scottish clubs are and they will tell you: games cancelled for two weeks by the Scottish Government, a “yellow card” issued by the First Minister herself.

At the time, Ms Sturgeon said, “We can’t have privileged football players just deciding that they are not going to bother.  This can’t go on.”

There was, however, no grandstanding from Sturgeon yesterday when two Newco players were caught by police breaking Covid rules.  Instead, the Scottish Government slipped out a statement COMMENDING Newco:

“Players maintain the sporting bubble by not compromising any of these things when away from the heavy regulated training or match environment, and we expect clubs and their staff and players to fulfil their responsibilities and apply all of these measures rigorously.

“We commend Rangers for taking such swift and decisive action in this instance, to protect the rest of their squad and wider public.”

One club is commended for doing that two others were punished for.  I know how things work in Scotland.  The SNP is far from popular among supporters at Ibrox, which remains an important political constituency, but turning a blind eye when the First Minister grabbed the opportunity to jump on Celtic is unworthy of the office.

This is as good as I could find:

” A spokesperson for the Scottish Government said: “The return to training and match protocols mandate strict adherence to all government guidance in place, including on gatherings and physical distancing.

readin back to overnight, the revelations about Rocky being a cat and the ongoing patter was quite funny, comedy gold.

however it was obvious he wisnae a hippo, you cant keep a hippo up a flat, they cant get up the stairs.

    ……………

To those STILL asking IF Rocky is a Cat…. ?

As Inspector Clouseau would say…” The case is SOL….VED !

Rocky Bhoy the CAT… is a wee Guy who has been my best mate for over 14 years. He relies on me to look after him, which I try to do…I rely on him for his companionship…and making me laugh at times.

Someone else asked about a Hippo in my Flat and taking a Urine Sample from said Hippo ?……….Im gonna need a BIGGER Bucket !

    LOL.

  5. Sevco players clearly compromised the sporting bubble protocols put in place. By mingling with more than 1 household.

The fact that they did not get the chance to turn up for training is neither here nor there.

Sevco players have breached protocol… Simples.

  7. Celtic legend Chris Sutton admits the Scottish Government’s positive response to the Covid breach by two Rangers players has left him baffled.

Jordan Jones and George Edmundson were suspended by the Ibrox side on Monday after being fined by police for attending a house party at the weekend.

The Scottish Government “commended” Rangers for their swift response to the incident, despite criticising Celtic and Aberdeen players who breached regulations earlier in the season.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon had warned football was on a ‘yellow’ card after Boli Bolingoli’s trip to Spain and the Aberdeen 8’s night out.

And in the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast, Sutton revealed he was left confused by the change in stance as he blasted the two players for their actions, branding them “clowns”.

He said: “First of all the players, what a couple of clowns they are. Steven Gerrard and the Rangers hierarchy must be absolutely furious with the whole thing. It seems like Rangers have handled the situation really well.

“What has baffled me, absolutely baffled me, is the Scottish Government commending Rangers on that yet with Celtic and Aberdeen, the Scottish Government rounded on them. All this yellow card stuff and what have you? It’s remarkable how they’ve changed their tune.

“Most people across Scotland will find that as a real head scratcher, but a lot of things that have happened up there have been like that.”

Back in August, Sturgeon had said: “We can’t have privileged football players just deciding that they are not going to bother. This can’t go on.”

And when reminded of those quotes, Sutton continued to lay in to the Scottish Government and queried why there was such a difference in their views.

He added: “It’s a complete U-turn. Does that not apply right across the board? That’s what people will say. I have massive sympathy for managers across the country. We did a column a while back where we said this will happen again but this seems to be a change of language from the Scottish Government.

“Maybe they forgot what they said about Celtic and Aberdeen, I don’t know. It’s a strange one anyway.”

    I agree 100%.

Did the two Huns INTEND turning up for Training after attending that Party…Of course they did !

They were NEVER going to ” Grass” Themselves up…were they ?

Its only because they were caught by the Polis…that obviously prevented them from going to Training the next day or whenever, as they knew that they had been caught out and guilty as charged, so to speak.

If the Polis hadnt been “Tipped Off” and hadnt caught them at the party…BOTH those Huns would have kept quiet and turned up for training and Match days etc.

Eric Heffer was a High Church Anglican. He and Harry McShane left/were expelled from the Communist Party at about the same time.

No apology needed mate, no worries.

I NEVER at any time Posted what kind of animal Rocky is…it was others who just assumed that he was a Dug !

i did read some Posters that made that assumption but to me it didnt matter what Rocky was…he’s MY Rocky Bhoy, and he means everything to me.

I just went with the flow LOL.

DAVID66 knew that Rocky was a Cat as hes been in my hoose when he did shopping for me back in March/April due to the Virus. I did think that DAVID66 might have let ” The Cat oot of the Bag” so to speak and “correct” some Posters..but he didnt…so I just went with the flow.

Chris Sutton is something of a latter day Cyril Horne. An Englishman pointing out the peculiarities of Scottish football that otherwise go unmentioned.

  22. Re PhilMacs article. We are invited to draw our own conclusions . Not an especially difficult exercise.

Perhaps the SG after yesterday’s fawning and drooling, should ask the Harry Margolis for a copy of the Incident Log which the Officers attending the Devonshire Gardens birthday party would require to raise.

The Gers are certainly masterful at media management – certainly teach the SG a thing or two.

“The Gers are certainly masterful at media management”

    Agreed.

But then again it is so much easier for them.

Sevco & SMSM are largely dependent on each other for their joint survival.

Which makes the phenomenon of Celtic fans believing and/or promoting the SMSM all the more baffling.
