van Dijk signs four year deal

1571

Absolutely delighted at the arrival of Dutch under-21 international central defender, Virgil van Dijk, on a four year deal.  A central defender was one of three priorities for this summer and we have secured our first choice target.

The signing will also give a boost to the squad, and a timely reminder to all that amidst talk of player potentially leaving ‘at the right price’, the Celtic Story is one of progress.

Celtic had the tallest team in the Champions League last season.  They were also top scorers from headed goals in the competition until Bayern Munich caught them in the semi-finals.  With the addition of two 6’4” players (van Dijk and Balde) we look to be consolidating our strengths.

Welcome to Celtic, Virgil.

  1. My Dear Kojo…..

    Joe’s Overall Contribution To Celtic’s Play….

    Cannot Be Readily Appreciated….

If One Is Only Viewing The Match..Thru The Medium Of The Big Screen….

One Must Observe Movement Off The Ball….

Even From The Restricted View Available

To One Squinting Past The Ootsized Heids…..

    Of Oor Gazebo Gang Chancers…

He Still Comes Up With Vital Goals….

Even Though He Spends Much Of His Time….

    Coverin’ For Izzie’s Attacking Forays…

    And Most Importantly….He Is A LEFT Fitter…..

And They Are Rarer Than Hen’s Teeth….

Or An Intelligent Comment Fae KK….

Sure….He Would Be A More Effective Player If He Had A Bit O’ The Devil To His Game….

But Then…..He Gets Penalised So Regularly By The MIBS….

Even When He Plays In A Most Sporting Manner…..

And Both He And Our Manager Realise…

That Our Team Will Be Much Weaker And Lacking In Shape….

If He Is Absent Thru’ Suspension….

    No….Joe & Victor….

Are The Very Backbone Of The Team…

  5. I think we have a great talent in Efe. He can hold onto the ball for too long and end up running into blind alleys, BUT given proper coaching he will be a class act IMO.

Sammi was almost hounded out, but showed great resolve and look at him now. Don’t do the same to Efe pleeeeeeeaaase.

Efe a definite for next season? Please, no!

A total liability. A very poor man’s Bobo. Get rid pronto.

You are entitled to your opinion. I disagree with it however. :D

Efe showed more than enough last season to show that he will be a real asset to this team as it develops.

Neil played him against the Italians despite, well you know the whole rigmarole, let us not dwell on that. Efe is only human and the Juve game affected him longer than he probably imagined. He needs Support because he is a very classy player and I am sure he will show it, this season. ;)

So unless we get a £10M bid for him, I don’t want him going anywhere. :)

I genuinely respect your entitlement to hold and express an opinion such as yours that Efe Ambrose is a classy player…

£12M and a sell-on, we will take that.

From beating Barca to scrapping Hull to avoid relegation. Enjoy it Victor…

  11. Dexter

Maybe you should take some alcohol/drugs if you think Efe is a poor Bobo Balde. :P

Bobo was Great at defending, nothing else, whenever he started thinking he was a footballer, well I was cringing.

I guess it is all about how you look at a game.

Bobo’s strength as a Defender is one of the pre-requisites I have for a Defender. Efe is not a good defender. Nor is he good on the ball- he thinks that he is better than he is.

Plays like he’s on alcohol and drugs ;)

I remember Efes’ debut (in midfield!!) in a midweek cup game and a number of posters on here said it was the best debut they could remember.

The ANC did him no favours and I don’t think the Confederations cup is going to either, the guy needs a rest.

Aye, but coming from you that’s just made up Timmy lies from an obsessed Timmy. Coming from Jack Irvine, it’s a wake-up call to the Sevco support. Spivs moved in and anybody they paid did and said anything they wanted.

    What is different today?
