We hurt Newco players, Sunday will not be an exhibition

327

I know a few who were indifferent about winning the league at Easter Road on Sunday with the prospect of winning it against Newco this weekend, but it is not how Brendan Rodgers views things.

It doesn’t matter how you regard Newco in a historical context, these games bring an inherent pressure for Celtic to win (and Newco to at least lose while competing) that it would suit the manager to have already won the league before crossing swords with Graeme Murty for the third time in seven weeks.

We should also remember, this is not a Harlem Globetrotters game, where an exhibition of slick entertainment will take place with the result predetermined.  We hurt Newco’s players.  They have been professionally embarrassed in a very public manner, something which could inhibit their career opportunities – and let’s be clear, many of them will want to move on from Murray Park this summer.

We have to anticipate that they will play better at Celtic Park than they did at Hampden.  At the very least, someone inside the away dressing room is likely to say “Lads, can you keep an eye on the big Australian guy?”  They have learned several of our stock plays in recent weeks and they have learned what does not work against them.  This fact alone will make them better prepared.  Napoleon warned his generals not to fight the same opponent too many times, as they will learn all you moves.  He had a point.

Scott Brown quite rightly called the prospect of winning the league on Sunday the “sweetest” way, but this is not what you want to hear from players prior to a game.  As the captain himself noted after our Scottish Cup semi-final win, do you talking on the park.  Opponents use words like this to create a common purpose, especially when they are struggling to find any commonality naturally.

Raffle to play in an 11-a-side game at Celtic Park

An incredible opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park around the end of the current season 2017-18, in Club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing’s match.

You will be provided with complimentary Celtic kit and receive the full match-day experience including arrival through the front door, access to the dressing room and proudly walking down the tunnel to enter the famous field of play.

Both squads will be managed by a former Celtic player. Date TBC; please note it may be a weekday. All monies raised will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number SC024648).

To enter the raffle, make a minimum donation of £5 to the Foundation at this MyDonate page.  Then send your donation confirmation email to this address: celticquicknews@gmail.com

The opportunity to play on Celtic Park is just beyond words.  I did it a few years ago, the memories will live forever, as will the photographs.  The experience of preparing in the dressing room, as so many greats have done before, was fabulous.

You can enter for yourself, or gift the prize to someone you know aged 18 or over. Competition closes at 15:00 this Friday, 27th.

Good luck!

  1. Good evening friends.

Firstly, glad to hear some positive news about BMCUW. Hopefully the new will continue to improve.

More generally, thanks for all the posts and emails regarding my Bhoy’s trip to Liverpool. I’ve sent all of the suggestions on to him and he’s overwhelmed with thanks. I think he now has more than enough so thanks again.

    Big Packy,

sure you can afford it so whats the problem? smiley thing

40 quid tip,,gimme a shout next time you need something done eh?

By the way great 5 miler with Hamish yesterday and will post some pics later but hes become bored as we have a new wee one now so I was thinking it might be best to get another dog for company for him.

Then just this morning I see pups advertised the same kind of breed as Hamish,,half Irish wolf hound and half German shepherd but the wolfhound is white where Hamishs dad was black.

Anyway my questions for you are,

if youre gonna bring a new dog to the family does it matter what sex,,should it be the same sex or opposite ideally?

Also should you get the same breed,,i mean will they both vie for dominance?

Or would you maybe suggest a little and large combo,,not another big dog but a wee one?

Any advice appreciated and i hope you Franky and Benny and the upset missus are well.

    Hail Hail

  4. I see that Craig Thompson is the MIB on Sunday.

Can anyone confirm if he retires at the end of the season ?

If so, will he plan to go out in a blaze of glory with a few honest mistakes.

Anyone able to confirm this ?

Hope you don’t mind me butting in, you are the alpha, if you allow any dog to be the alpha you will have problems, if you take control they will obey, it’s as simple as that, never allow them to dictate in any way whatsoever.

I have a pack, thirteen presently and if I gave them an inch I would be fecked, they do what they are told when they are told, no question.

  8. So a most interesting flight today back from Heathrow.

In the duty free a young Chinese couple with 2 baskets of make up. Literally hundreds of items.

Half way getting scanned they ask how much so far . £2900 .

I am guessing they are entrepreneurs going to make money when they get home.

Meanwhile for the 4:20 to Glasgow. There is a big family of middle East persons. About 16 of them. Various traditional clothing and the kids with a Mish mash of outfits.

They got to clear the gate first with a lassie helping them. She is wearing a logo sweatshirt. IOM.

Some grumbles from the priority boarders. But we get on first anyway. I then watch the family pass me as they get their seats.

Oldest man and woman look 70 easily. Then 2 couples with a range of kids. 2 to 16 I would say.

I asked IOM girl. What’s the story.

Syrian refugees being placed in Scotland.

I said. Good fantastic work. Well done.

She said thanks. You know we hardly ever get that.

None of them said a word the whole flight. Not a bicker from the weans. Not a cross word between adults.

Not being dramatic but the kids did look vacant.

I hope they find a life in Scotland.

  9. CCB…

I’ve tried to contact Mick, reckon he won’t have the energy as yet as it’s flattened him.

Wish him all the best and hopefully he’ll be up and about soon. HH

    TET,

dont mind you butting in one bit and thanks for the advice.

Just to be clear,,youre saying it doesnt matter the sex or size etc what matters is you maintain dominance and discipline? They shouldnt fight if Im dominant?

If i wasnt in charge he would walk all over me this one trust me.

    Hail Hail

  11. MAHE THE MADMAN this is our experience – we have always had Westies (and Yorkies) … always boys and have never had a problem with fighting or dominance etc. They need ground rules just like children do. We also took the older ones with us when we went to collect the new pup. So they meet on neutral ground and then we would all come in the house together and let them sniff the pup through the crate and slowly open the door and monitor them closely until they were okay. We never left the pup alone with the older dogs. We had a puppy pen so the pup could see the the older dogs and vise versa but they couldn’t get to each other if we were out and to give them space from each other as pups can be too lively for older dogs at first. Or you can crate the puppy so it’s safe when your out. Also, remember to give the older dog space away from the pup as it may be too lively for the older dog at first. Supervise meal times as the pup may want to steal the older dogs food. Again monitor the situation and gently guide the pup back to it’s own food bowl. Hope this helps … hh.

    Thanks Big Packy.

No decision made yet. Hamish was a handful those first 6 months and i couldnt go through that with a wee one now as well.

The wife doesnt sound too interested in another but shes the type of person when its lickin her and playin around she will say can we keep it.

Riseth was one of two home players sent off in the match in 1999, on a day when fans ran on to the pitch and referee Hugh Dallas was struck by a coin amid ugly scenes at Celtic Park.

It’s all about control, if you dominate they will obey, it took us a while to suss everything out, but the bottom line is you have to take control.

It makes no difference size or sex, unless you have, or introduce an intact male, then it’s a slightly different ball game, but the basic rules are the same, you have to take control.

We get people all the time telling us they can’t take in another dog or cat cos the ones they have will fight and go for it, truth be told they don’t want the hassle.

Big Packy has also given you a few pointers as well, problem I have is numbers, thirteen is a bit of a mare, not a hassle but they get a bit excited at feeding times cos they look forward to their food so much, they all have their place and they wouldn’t dare try and eat anothers, it takes a bit of time and effort but well worth it.
