We spoil the league

782

Illustrating the very high regard the business community and people of Barcelona hold Celtic fans, one of the city’s top restaurants, Cinc Sentis have donated lunch for two towards our annual charity causes.

I am assured by our resident food critic (WDH), Cinc Sentis is a fabulous dining experience.  The auction has just gone live – so get a low bid in early – and ends Sunday.  If you’re heading to Barcelona next week, or anytime thereafter, get your eBay bid in here.

Many thanks to Cinc Sentis and WDH.

Read lots yesterday about the vast majority of people in Scotland missing the ‘Old Firm’ games.  Trying hard to inoculate myself against any “bravado” I really don’t see this.  The edge we used to feel when going into the final minutes of a game needing a goal is no longer there, but I’m really not sure that edge is healthy or necessary.

More than this, I don’t know a single fan from another Premiership club who regrets the liquidation of Rangers, or feels their life is enhanced by the presence of Celtic.  Everyone is aware of the harsh reality – we spoil the league.

We do, of course, sell copy, as did the liquidated lot.

  9. the league title was designed in such a fashion that it was stacked in celtic and rangers (IL) favour because of the: amount of money celtic and rangers had in comparison to nearest competitors, the number of games played against competitors (4) over the course of the season and the sameness of our competitors (only celtic have a significant finance and quality gap) now rangers are dead and aberdeen, Dundee united, hibs and hearts etc… all being much of a muchness we play in a dead duck of a league.

the upside of our league is that clubs got better t.v money and two visits from celtic and rangers. the downside being that town clubs have lost their supporters in significant numbers because they don’t have a realistic chance of challenging, let alone winning the bent league.

t.v income is now dire and the league have had to negotiate a deal without being able to sell the 4 ‘old firm’ games. if celtic and other clubs truly desire a more competitive league they need to expand to 16 or 18 teams (1 home and away game) league.

with time a gap will form with our bigger town clubs i.e. hearts Aberdeen, Dundee united etc… being able to sustain consistency in the league. would need to increase relegation places and play-offs as well as, European play offs to keep the whole league interesting, but no body can tell me adding another 4 or 6 clubs from the 1st division would reduce the overall quality of the league.

without changing the structural deficits (bent) in our games we will simply have to wait on sevco getting into the spl before we see a challenge to our thrown, but that will signal further demise. we need several teams challenging for the title every season not celtic and a tribute act, 30 years is enough proof that change is needed

Former music promoter Milorad ”Michael” Trkulja is suing Google in a bid to have his name essentially erased from the internet after the search engine continues to link him unfairly to Melbourne’s criminal underworld.

The self-described “Yugoslavian” community leader says he has taken legal action against the ”evil” internet giant because Google has not blocked access to the material despite his win in a defamation lawsuit last year.

When Google repeatedly refused to remove links to the images, Mr Trkulja successfully sued the internet giant for defamation and received $200,000 in damages in 2012. That followed an earlier legal victory against Yahoo where he was awarded $225,000.

”Fining Google $200,000 is like charging you or me 20 cents. This time I want them to remove my name from Google.”

Big Nan– petition signed with pleasure, I hope it hits its target.

May I advocate another petition which can be found hear: http://t.co/S3xZZr59NE

Basically it is a petition to bring a motion before Parliament which discusses foodbnks and why we actually have them in the 21st Century.

I have no problem with the good that they do or the kindness and generosity of everyone who donates, but the very fact that they are so widely needed and supported is a complete failure on the part of this Government.

We are literally one step away from the reintroduction of “The Poor House” — how can that be classed as any kind of social progress or Governmental success in 2013?

So please help boost the numbers if you too are aggrieved that the fact that people are simply left to be dependent on foodbanks.

Quite separately, Alan Green of Five Live Radio publicly stated that he found the atmosphere at Celtic v Rangers games to be poisonous and absolutely horrible. I am not a fan of Mr Green to be honest, and he got a real hard time for some for so describing the great Glasgow Derby.

However, long ago I felt he was right. I have always known publicans, taxi drivers, restaurateurs and the likes who always prayed for a draw or if forced to choose would always opt for a Rangers win because of what they feared in terms of public atmosphere post match. All took the view that a Celtic win could be very bad news in terms of trouble and grief.

Of Course I loved the wins when they happened– and I have seen a lot of them — but I don’t miss either the fixture or the grief that goes with such a football match.

I also remember the tensions when playing against very good Dundee United, Aberdeen, European and other teams. There could be great excitement but all without the strange edge that came with the Glasgow Derby fixture.

As a Father and a mad keen Celtic supporter, I will be more than happy if my kids grow up without knowing that Celtic/Rangers tension that I have witnessed all my life.

There are other thrills in life that are worth preserving and cherishing far more than that nonsense.

Good on you. The worst night since the great storm of 1998 when an electricity pylon came down on our felt roof at 0300 hrs. Although this was a more severe storm, thankfully the pylon has been replaced to fall away from the house rather than on top of it. And, god knows how, the roof survived with only the felt needing replaced. Wit a night that was. :))
