We want a win, but let’s not kid ourselves

964

We are almost week on from Morton (our only mustn’t lose game in March) but there will be a business-like atmosphere around Lennoxtown today as the team prepare to go to Ibrox, scene of three consecutive wins since Newco were promoted to top flight football.  Brendan and his players are all too aware of the big talk coming from Murray Park.  If ever they needed motivation, they didn’t need to look far.

Fans of either colour, who have been around long enough, will recognise the occasion, but this is not the way you and I used to feel about going to Ibrox.  Back in the old days I preferred to go there as slight underdogs, which was often as good as it got for Celtic fans.  Now, we travel to every ground in the country as strong favourites, no matter what our form.  This is nothing like it was in the pre-liquidation years.

I want to win, of course, but I would have been devastated if we’d lost to Morton.  Sunday’s game cannot reach me the same way.  This is a step on the road to what will hopefully be a treble, don’t pretend it is about winning the league, it’s just not.

    Stéphane Mahé isn’t a madman.

That myth was perpetuated by the SMSM.

They singled him out, vilified and persecuted the fellow for some unbeknown reason.

Yes, he did lose his temper during a game involving Deadco Rangers and a particularly hateful, cheating MIB.

Anyone could have lost their cool in those circumstances, when confronted by the most blatant mibbery imaginable.

Oh,I’m so jealous. There are some places in the world,I recall an interview in Rotterdam for The Gulf about 89. Four x 10 day breaks and a six week break, company flies you wherever you want, then back. We were actually discussing the bucket list-and for some reason,Bob Dylan-when an injudicious comment about stewardesses caused the withdrawal of offer!

Wuckfit. I was only 25,it just came ooooot,as they say. But the six week breaks?

Oz,HK,USA,there’s my top three in no particular order. Maybe a train ticket round Europe.

25,live the dream. 25,open your mouth and eff it up,more like! Easy tax-free £50k plus comm.

    Plus bliddy holidays…

  13. Joe Deacon was a terrible DJ, he played the tunes though that got the place rockin’.

Billy Reid was also a very poor DJ, mixing wise I am saying.

    NJOI Ibrokes tomorrow Celtic.

What was the name of the pub you suggested in Reading for the game tomorrow, and how far from the rail station is it?

Brentford and Wimbledon have rail disruptions tomorrow with replacement buses :(

    Or any other suggestions?

  16. Mahe the Madman on

    16 roads,

    Stephane Mahe,,,,,

No he wasn’t a madman, he was an EEJIT many many times though.

When I think of him I smile. I’ve posted this in the past so if you’ve read it before please forgive me.

When he was our left back I used to go regular, my job at that particular afforded me that, wasn’t in that job long and it was soon back to weekends and bad hours so basically no more travel.

That’s kinda why he’s special to me, because I was there live watching this.

And I will never forget what he did,,every single game!

At least once a game he got the ball and if he had ten yards of space in front of him he would put his head down and bomb it.

And then he would get pressed, and adjust his direction but never ever passed,,tried to beat the man with a bit of pace and power ( he wasn’t a weakling) and never EVER looked up,,just continued to fight off his harrying opponent while bombing it and nudging the ball .

At least every 3rd time,,and I counted,,he ran the ball out of bounds without knowing it. He wuldnt have a clue where he was. Most of those times it was straight over the hoardings into the support .

And then that look,,,he would get up and look around and go where am I with this amazed look on his face!!

I’m sure some of you noticed this also. So it became a running joke between me and my dad (rest in peace) sitting in the jock,,,we would wait for it the elbow each smiling saying he’s off lets watch what happens now.

I didn’t know at the time anyone noticed or found this funny or whatever .

Anyway I was loving it throughout the season , however the seats behind us belonged to an Irish based CSC also.

So it was usually other Irish men obviously.

This one week,,,I’ve no idea if the seats where sold or if he just decided to sit there,,,but this big big hefty Glaswegian is in the seat right behind me. He’s lively and he’s had a few scoops and his big deep voice is belting out opinions in that Glaswegian lilt. I’m enjoying it as it’s different than the usual suspects. Nice to hear that accent also.

Now remember I’ve never seen or spoke to this fella in my puff.

But what happens next ,, Mahe starts off on a headless chicken,,,,I’m about to elbow my da only to find he’s beat me to it and is already nudging me,,

I turn to at him smiling thinking here we go,,,,,

And I’ll never forget to my dying day.

The big man lifts his strip up ,,,the big big gut just hanging,,,and goes ” Ah Jesus the madman’s on the loose” and pulled the strip over his eyes so he couldn’t see what happens !!!!!!

My and my dad pissed ourselves,,,I’m talking tears.

    Hence the blog name.

    They were great times.

I like Stephane Mahe,,happy I got that blogname.

    Hail Hail

  17. Gutenberg.

I think your spending to much time on your day job and very little time dedicated to picking a decent coupon to add to our European travel money pot?

  18. Murty has done well.

He knows nothing though when saying the newco CELEBRATED being drawn with the BHOYS.

Murts must stay after the game Tomorrow.

    Mahe the madman

Will you pass the blog name onto the kids :-)

Celtic are much more enjoyable than Stephane Mahe, who was a very good defender, it was the tabloids that encouraged your moniker :-)

The fellas who work in our press shop in Oxford-which is a very expensive place to live-are on a basic-and the days of overtime are gone-of less than £20k.

Work for the same company in a much cheaper place-Glasgow-for The Herald, you can add at least a third. It’s a disgrace what has happened to the industry over the last fifteen years or so.

I remember the first time my MD-who I genuinely thought the world of,pretty rare for me!-mentioned digital content. And driving it forward,as he put it.

You canny expect people to buy the paper when you can get most of it for nothing. And that was at least twelve years ago. 50,000 a day, down to four figures now.

Btw,I used to do Print Design. We got a sub-contract for a promotion in Asda. Mid-90s. Could not find a Pantone match,so I phoned Asda in Leeds and asked them for the mix.

Not telling you, that should be kept in-house,and that’s the way we’ll keep it in-house.

Had to refuse the contract, and so did the main contractor. Could not match it,no matter how we tried.

  21. Whatever team Brendan picks tomorrow , should be aware there’s no hiding place for them . Every one in the hoops must turn up , if we do that ,we won’t lose . No doubt they have improved , yes they have been on a good run , but as yet they haven’t faced the calibre of player we have , but our bhoys must want it as much as our fans in the stand . If Brendan has them prepared for the battle , and prepared for the inevitable honest mistake , I expect us to be 9 points clear with a game in hand . And the fat lady singing . Go get them bhoys , show them how it feels to be celtic .
