We were mocked for Jozo, a stunning signing

323

The siege mentality which Celtic endured two years ago now feels like a different world. The pursuit of £3.5m defender Jozo Simunovic was a significant statement of intent, but even that was mocked by many now close to the club. A critical assessment from a Balkan writer for The Guardian was enough for the club’s critics to tell us how ridiculous Celtic were.

For months I endured one character repeatedly imply we had bought a crock who would never complete a season. This story had what all good conspiracy theories have, a curious fact which, when revealed, was enough to inspire fantasists.

Jozo was injured when Celtic signed him. The club sent him to London for an assessment from the top man available. The verdict was clear: the injury would heal, but while personal medical details are kept private, speculation was rife.

The truth is we did remarkably well recruiting Jozo. If he wasn’t injured, we may have been priced out of the market, but we scouted him (a John Park player), got the best medical advice available and put money on the table, while others read The Guardian and pondered knee injuries.

Many have spent the last two weeks marvelling at the tacking ability of Jozo.

Lisbon Lions Raffle
20170510_092803

Last year we got this retro Celtic top signed at an event by several Lions: Willie Wallace, Tommy Gemmell, John Hughes and Charlie Gallacher. Willie has told us he’ll ask the others to add their names, when he’s over later this month. I intend pinning the Original Holy Goalie before then. Former captain, Paul McStay, was also kind enough to add his name.

We’re raffling the top, all proceeds will be spent on the Lions, or descendants, where appropriate. The objective is to give the Lions and their families a memento to mark the 50th anniversary of their greatest achievement. Many no longer have their medals, strips or keepsakes from that era.

£2 each, you can buy a bucket-load HERE, if you like. I guarantee you the winner will cherish their prize.

  1. Firstly, condolences to SFTB at this time. I honestly cannot even imagine how you are feeling at this time.

Second, good luck to Mouldybhoy and the rest of the crew cycling to Lisbon, there’ll be a pint waiting for you when you get there.

I have 8 more days on this side of the planet before I leave my lovely wife again and return to Glasgow. I honestly don’t know how she puts up with me.

  2. I’m just dipping my toe into some political discussion here. After the 2015 election I came on here and said I’d be joining the Labour party and trying to vote for a far more progressive candidate. Everybody on here wished me well (even the SNP voters)

Thousands of other likeminded Labour voters have done the same and the party has went in the direction I’d hoped. The leaked manifesto is the best I would have hoped for from a Labour government.

I like Jeremy Corbyn. He is reserved, empathetic and thoughtful. Unfortunately, that doesn’t transfer to the wider electorate who prefer lizard people who cannot consume human food.

I can understand why many of you will be voting SNP. What I will say is…. anybody who tells you that Labour are “Red Tories” are absolute numpties

I hope things are ok on what you have to organise. The birth certificate issue was common in the new free state, especially after the 4courts went up with all those records.in my family we celebrated my ma n das birthday the day before it was.I was touched on reading about your mum being ‘hired’out, I recall my own father talking of getting ten shillings as a shepherd boy aged 6,for 6 months work.I still recall the smile and shake of head when I as a 7 or 8 y.o suggested that must have bought a lot of sweets. The money was already spent feeding his brother and sisters.a massive insight for me into the harsh poverty he was rared in.he was born in 1906.

Any I am of on one T.God bless your family at this time,

  6. I like Corbyn too, free thinker, and doesent budge, red Tories , same as the Rangers never died myth, all media outlets against Labour, they have to do what they’r bosses and the lodges tell them, all about opinions a suppose, been a Labour man and a Celtic supporter all my days I’m way to set in my ways to be swayed any other way, as a previous poster said, just dipping my to in the political water, no offence either, but I’m also not interested on a debate in it, HH

Following many discussions over the last week the Club are pleased to announce that they have secured an initial allocation of 19,874 tickets for the cup final. There is a possibility of a further 1,344 tickets being secured if the initial allocation is sold quickly. To secure the initial allocation, the Club agreed to guarantee the face value of these tickets.

AFC Chief Executive Duncan Fraser said. “The issue of ticket allocation for a Cup Final has as expected taken some time to work through. In securing the possibility of a 50/50 allocation we have again guaranteed the face value of all our initial allocation.

“We are pleased with the outcome. It is for the Aberdeen supporters to make this a very special day for the city by travelling in large numbers. We have always understood that to win the national cup you have, more often then not, to beat a Glasgow Club at Hampden and therefore it will need Aberdeen supporters to make this feel like a neutral venue which I am sure they will do.”
