What Stein got wrong in Lisbon

433

Jock Stein didn’t get it all right in Lisbon 50 years ago. He told his players Inter’s weak point was their goalkeeper, Giuliano Sarti, who passed away within the last day, aged 83. How wrong could he be? Sarti played the game of his life, resisting Celtic for an hour, and then keeping his team in the game until the end.

Inter’s famed defensive structure was unable to adapt to Celtic’s ability to create space, but a combination of Sarti and the woodwork kept the scoring down. Twice the keeper benefited from the West German officials, once when he stretched behind to claw the ball out of the net, and once when he grabbed Willie Wallace legs inside the six-yard box.

Sarti

Sarti was Inter keeper throughout the Grande Inter period, when they twice won the European Cup and Serie A title. He earlier won the league with Fiorentina, as well as the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Great, though he was, he was no King Canute, and could do nothing about Big Tam’s tidal wave, which changed the course of football.

  2. I swore I wouldn’t comment again about oldco and their demise. However, having watched both STV, BBC and in particular Mark Daly it is clear that there is one person to blame and as the Court concluded it was not Whyte. Johnston fudged his thoughts when asked about Murray. In God’s name, the man that had most Journalists in his back pocket, that had Bankers eating out of his hand, multi million pound empire and who said in 2006 that he would only sell oldco to someone like minded and who had the interests of the now murdered institution did not have the foresight or resources to find out Whyte was skint…aye right, I’ll crack the jokes. Murray new exactly what he was doing, he offloaded them to save himself, gluttony.

Regan, lol…taking advice on whether to pursue Whyte for £200k and he will not darken the doorstep again of Scottish Football…as I said, I’ll crack the jokes. One man to blame for bringing Whyte to the table, you don’t need to guess, I’ll tell you, Murray!!

The thing is Murray tried to cover his tracks and will argue there was financial gain for MIH, our problem is getting Murray to Court.

His title stripped and their titles stripped, nothing more, nothing less.

    Keep the Faith!

    Good Evening One and All.

And so it comes to pass that Mr Craig Whyte, mythical self-made Billionaire, was found not guilty of all charges by a Scottish Jury.

I predicted to some on here weeks ago that Whyte would not only be acquitted but that he would lead absolutely no evidence in his defence as there was enough evidence in the Crown case itself to instigate a reasonable doubt in which case the accused must be acquitted.

What I could not predict was the ineptness and downright failure of some of the crown witnesses who could neither remember what happened when nor what was actually important or material at the time.

What did become clear is that from 2009 onwards David Murray was desperate to sell Rangers. One poster on here used to swing a golf club with Murray’s finance men and their repeated advice to him was to ditch Rangers as it was always going to end in tears.

It is advice he ignored until it was too late.

The evidence surrounding the share sale and purchase agreement made for excruciating reading for a professional. The wording of the document was most bizarre in some places — so bizarre and meaningless that someone, somewhere with a law degree must have thought “This is cobblers!”

The whole data room disclosure process was a farce and it was blatantly obvious that Whyte was borrowing from Ticketus.

Murray was in trouble and remains in trouble. He is not the establishment pet that some would have you believe. Far greater establishment figures consider him a chancer and a rogue with whom they don’t want to share the same air.

However, the most substantial and stupid squirrel of the day goes to Stewart Reagan who, in absolutely no knee jerk reaction at all pronounced that he was going to take legal advice about pursuing wee Craigy Baby for unpaid fines etc.

    Oh really?

Good try at getting the press to focus on this aspect of the days events as opposed to analysing what has just taken place.

For the avoidance of doubt, If Whyte was nade BANKRUPT IN 2009 Then you can stick Reagan and his fines where the sun don’t shine because if you are made bankrupt then all your debt dies with you and there is no legal way of recovering any money and in my opinion and Regan should know that.
