What’s it to you, Charlie?

640

The news yesterday that HMRC would appeal the decision by the First Tier Tribunal (FTT) to reject the part of their tax demand against former club Rangers which was still open to dispute was received by most with passing interest.  The FTT returned a split decision, with the minority view giving HMRC substantial grounds for an appeal, and as we have heard often in recent years, HMRC always pursue tax under various circumstances.  Reasons include when they believe wrongdoing has occurred.

As such, it seemed strange that The Rangers chief executive, Charles Green, issued a statement on the subject yesterday as the on-going tax dispute “will have no affect (sic.) on us”.  He also wrote “in the strongest possible terms to HMRC pointing out the futility of such an appeal”.

If Green expects HMRC to read this letter and to countenance a change of tact he has a regard for his own abilities which are, frankly, a little curious.  No mere mortal could write a letter and bring about any change in such a dispute, which leads us to another question, is Charles Green a mere mortal, or does his aim occasionally stretch beyond his reach?  I’m sure we’re not dealing with a Self-Certified-Superman.

The point to this exercise is that while Green’s newco is not liable for another company’s taxes, his football club inherited the SFA place vacated by Rangers, including pesky football liabilities.  Fifa and SFA rules on paying social taxes are clear – avoid them illegally and face disciplinary action.

As the matter is on-going, the football authorities have yet to issue any disciplinary action for the non-payment of taxes for the five players Rangers conceded to the FTT.  Should the courts ultimately decide in favour of HMRC for the balance of players still being disputed, a fresh wave of disciplinary measures would be due against Green’s club.

Last summer we discussed how the toxicity which was attached to the club Craig Whyte inherited, and then relinquished in a worse state, would make going forward as a Newco with any connection whatsoever to the SFA membership of Oldco very difficult.  Many, including the Blue Knights consortium, concluded it didn’t look viable.

It still doesn’t. Scottish football needs to consider how to deal with the long term consequences of these matters.

Im getting worried bout you fella,

are you really advocating healthy eating or is that just for the others?

  3. Lee Wallace will not start for Scotland but if he does a friendly against Estonia is probably the best place to check him out.

I don’t mind where players are playing to get in the Scotland team. If they are good enough they should play.

The same applies to England. I can’t believe Hooper is not even in the squad for Hodgson to get a close look at him. Even though he plays in the SPL the guy has to be the most in form striker the English have at their disposal!

Keeps him fresh for our matches but feel for the lad. He deserves a call up with his goal scoring form this season.

Whatever we think, or not, of Charlie Green, he did not bring about the downfall of Rangers FC. Sir David Murray achieved that, and got a knighthood for his efforts. Not to say Green has nothing to lose, but it is Murray’s name on the charge sheet, along with the usual suspects of course.

Remember the fanfare after the First-Tier Tribunal 2-1 ruling, Murray claiming vindication, to all and sundry and his favourite pet lapdog James Traynor blaming the Internet for all of Rangers’ woes. Before heading for Ibrox that is.

    Where is Murray today?

  5. Gordon Strachan has let James Forrest leave the Scotland squad. He didn’t want to take any risks with him.

If you’r going to travel all the way from Fifeshire, shirley you would eat in the restaurant…..rather than the burger bar…..where the chips and veg are only to fill the plate….leg room is tight, due to table congestion.

They do a nice Mid week special in the restaurant for £42…..VG….

Companies House appear to have made a huge mistake – The company(Rangers International) that runs the club(Sevco, ‘The Rangers’) were BOTH incorporated in 2012… surely some mistake, 140 years of history and all that;)

The first company mentioned was originaly called SEVCO SCOTLAND LTD, but changed it’s name on the 31st of July 2012 to THE RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB LTD.

Since, and I’m assuming here, SEVCO SCOTLAND LTD aquired the assets of SEVCO 5088 LTD, then this is the company/club that players like Elbows transferred over to, and is the one which was awarded the associate license from the SFA to allow them to compete.

If so, then what is the name of the team who played Brechin in the Ramsdens Cup three days before the name change, SevcoFC or The RangersFC?

Rugby – was once tricked into going to France v Scotland in Paris (was working there) – felt like a complete alien amongst them – the Scottish Rugby lot. The game itself was effin awful. Complete waste of a dayout. Hated it so much, and that was twelve years ago, that couldnt even be bothered turning up for free bar and barabecue day out at some 7s tournie in Glasgow last year.

Paddy was not on the bench for the 2-2 cup games vs Deadco on 6th Feb 11. The first time he had not figured since 6th Nov. I don’t know if this was due to injury – in the team news article I could find he was not reported as injured.

Paddy’s run came to and end as Commons was signed and as you may recall, Kris started with a bang, having a stormer v Aberdeen on his debut, then scoring agianst dedco in the aforementioned cup game. He then figured in every game that season bar one when banned after being sent off v Hearts.

At the same time as Commons arrived, Ki and Samaras came back from lengthy spells out. It looks like Paddy could not get a place in attacking midfield positions once those 3 were available, especially Commons.

    Cults…,

Celtic is no longer his concern he needs to keep all clubs fans happy, sadly, it is his concern that as many supporters as he can attract to the game, turn up and support his team. Yep he works for the SFA now, it’s obviously a consideration he has dealt with.

He’s taken their shilling, expect him to give no less than he gave us.

He is the national manager, it’s his job to unify the nation behind his team.

I thought his comment about the noise that went up when Rhodes came on said all he needed, he wants supporters at his games, he believes there is such a thing as a good hun :o)
