Why Morgan was bought now instead of on a pre-contract

613

What’s the difference between Celtic signing Lewis Morgan now, then loaning him back to St Mirren, or simply signing him on a pre-contract agreement to join the club on 1 June? Primarily, it is about the player’s training regime.

Celtic are paying St Mirren for the privilege of telling them how Lewis should train, what dietary rules he should follow and what developmental objectives to prioritise. He will train, rest, eat and sleep according to guidelines Celtic set out.

The cumulative effect of sports science is difficult to quantify, but it forms the basis of much of what the technical staff do at Lennoxtown.

NEW! The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 29th instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Big Jimmy, 07;10 this morning on previous item.

Backed your two Henderson horses, nice wee profit with that double.

    Hope you backed them.

    …………..

.Yes I backed them at the early prices of 01/11 and 7/2.Pity about Hendersons third horse today in the big race ?

    Anyways 2/3 aint bad.

I also had Godoplphins only runner today ( which I didn’t mention this morn) which won at Kemptons 6.15 tonight at 11/4. I had that at an early price of 0/30, along with the two Henderson winners.

I’d settle for 3 out of 4 every day.

    I did suggest that

    Cheers.

  2. I remember Wallace getting slaughtered for saying they had first class breakfast at Murry Park

  3. From post above.

I dsid suggest that the fact that Hendersons NO.1 Jockey was NOT riding for him in the Welsh Gran

    d

National at Chepstow, but rather one

horse in Sandowns 3.35, was maybe a tip in itself ?

It certainly seems that way,,,especially when Call Me Lord bolted up under Jockey Nico De Bonville.

That’s defo one of Hendersons to watch out for in March at Cheltenham ?

  7. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gearoid, I need to stop letting Nicholas annoy me, but its very difficult.

The ex Celts in the media who were Celtic fans as boys are the ones who are the most annoying for whatever reason . Nevin also falls into this category.

Tom Boyd is a notable exception which explains hee haw media work.

  8. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Big Packy, ex hun and Thistle player, Alex O’Hara .

They had a youth goalie called Liam Kelly

  9. Dallas.

Tracey says thank you very much for your kind words. Aye I can see Tony ‘s face at you saying you’re supporting Bankies. I’m have a wee laugh here.

Big Jimmy. Yes. Call me Lord very impressive carrying top weight, especially on such heavy going.

I had a frustrating day, had a three winners but not together. Call me Lord being one, I had Buywise at 20/1 with Hills this morning and Toriano 4s.

Anyway thanks for advice. I’m back to work on Mon, for a day, then off for 2, that’s just to annoy Gerryfaethebrig. :-)))

Disappointing result for Cumbernauld after eventually getting the game on , Girvan game called off again , seems to be one area of the pitch that’s troublesome , fingers crossed for a game next week !

  12. Gearoid-was watching ss and watched him say ‘my team’ I just laughed and said you’re feking welcome to him:-))

  13. Dallas.

Pollok tweeted Today’s Southside classico attendance 1,125.

    Fairly impressive, I would say.

    Hail Hail

  14. here is the problem, to spend lets say 20ml on three players plus wages (40 to 45) per wk.

we would have to win spl every year and quilify for the cl group stages.

i think it was here or kerrydale st. that our profit was 7ml last year,i am sure someone here can confirm or get the figure right.

my point is we can afford the 20ml but watch our wage bill go through the roof. imo.

  15. Park Rd 67.

    Thanks. Pitch held up well.

I met, by chance, the chairman and secretary this morning in Costa, they were really looking forward to it but that’s football.

It was 4.0 at half time, who would be a goalie, the poor soul, remember he was MOM in last game against Beith, today was just not his day. Honestly he should have saved them all, after the first I think his confidence went. Hopefully he will remember how well he played last time rather than today. That’s why I always have that bit more time for goalies, their mistakes are accentuated, whilst outfield players tend to get away with their mistakes the majority of the time.

    Hail Hail

  16. Dallas-my sister in law is best pals with Tommy’s sister, the night after MON treble win was Tommy’s night in the Thistle hotel,we had Tommy’s dad in our room singing Celtic songs.Brilliant night so it was

  17. Yogi Hughes/ Tontine et al

    Re the Jinky: Henderson issue.

The main point I was making is that it was not ALL based on religion.

Willie Henderson was a good player- international class- before Jimmy was – he was also 8 months older. Henderson had over 10 full international caps before Jimmy was first “capped” (for the under-23 side in February 64- he did not get a full international cap till Oct. 64). That reflects their form in 62 and 63 when Henderson was better.

Henderson earned 23 of his 29 caps between 62 and 66, and he only had 1 cap after 1969.

Jimmy’s record by year was :-

    64:- 2

    66- 2

    67- 2

    68- 1

    69- 2

    70- 2

    71- 4

    72- 2

    74- 6

So, the SFA were slow to appreciate Jimmy’s abilities but, as Jinkyredstar said, 1974 was his best year for Scotland appearances and how much of his non-appearnace in the 3 WC games that summer was down to religious bias or the douce Sunday Post attitudes following on from the Largs boat affair is up for debate. I suspect that Willie Ormond had no religious bias but was capable of being overruled by SFA blazers as he was with the Kenny Dalglish, successive Scotland appearances record. I would not excuse the blazers of the charge of religious bias.

  18. We must have faith in our youth academy and play our young bhoys regardless. It’s the future I tell you. That and a return to our favoured 442. Hh

Oh dear. Celtic making a big fuss over the Lewis Morgan signing. Paul having a “special” article about who will tell Lewis what to eat. Earth shattering stuff.

Or perhaps a sign as to quite how little incoming transfer activity there is going to be at Celtic. Once again a stunning lack of ambition appears to be on the horizon.

    ============================================

Less than six days into the transfer window and Violet Elizabeth Bott starts to scweam and scweam and scweam….

Jimmynotpaul, I hope Tracey does not suffer any long lasting after effects of her illness.

Tony , with a smile on his face , called me a rat when I told him at Big English’s memorial , I was supporting the Bankies in the sectional league cup final the following week. I didnt make the game as my dad passed away on the day of the match.

Fairhill Bhoy, that must have been some night. Tommy Boyd is definitely one of our most underrated and under appreciated players of the last 26 years.

  29. Park Rd.

Girvan are doing all right back in the big league. Hopefully another 3 points next week.

Cumbernauld have Petershill at home, earlier in the, season inthe away tie, Paddy was booed before the game, seriously tannoy announce says, number 7 Paddy, boooos from the Petetshill fans. He’s still to go to Larkhall this season too. :-))
