Win-at-all-costs manager inexplicably intoxicating

202

You and I were introduced to Jose Mourinho as a win-at-all-costs manager.  He took gamesmanship and bus parking to a new level, one which was successful against more talented teams, but even for those to whom he delivered trophies, he was difficult to love.  The rest of us emptied our store of contempt on him.

He is probably a better manager than I ever gave him credit for.  It takes talent to go to some of the world’s most famously attacking football clubs and stifle the enthusiasm out of their stadiums, but he had the necessary.

The question is, would you have welcomed him at Celtic?  I know what your gut’s saying.  I feel the same right now, but this guy’s arrogance appears to be inexplicably intoxicating.  He has a ‘movement’ on your doorstep, then you apologise for him having to step over it on his return.  For a decade, he was the ultimate guru manager and those who believe in such things opened their hearts to him, even as they watched him rob the game of enjoyment.

On many levels, he is not as good a fit for Celtic than Brendan Rodgers, but he is box office and knows how to set out a back six better than any manager in the game.  Years after regularly chanting, “Fergie, Fergie, shut your mouth”, Celtic fans are mostly respectful towards the former Aberdeen manager.  We are not there with Mourinho yet, but it might happen.

Wish I had those handy to counteract the regular distorted assertions that poor Brendan is at loggerheads with the villainous Peter Lawwell who spends his time attempting to stymie Brendan`s every move…………both on and off the pitch .

    What an insult to Brendan.

He doesn`t strike me as a forelock tugging pushover .

The article you commend ends with the following:

“What is there to fear now from restoring integrity to its rightful place, unless of course you were party to the thinking that kicked the integrity of our game to death in 2012 and are still in a position of influence?”

I don’t want to put you in a spot, but you command a certain respect from the happyclappers that People like Kev aren’t (sorry Kev?)So, in that spirit, can I ask you:

In your opinion, have Celtic taken reasonable steps to restore the integrity of the game?

    =================

That they have raised the issues with the SFA via SPFL is a matter of public record and they might claim that unless other clubs support them, they have done all they can, except state this and their own position in light of the usable evidence Res12 activity has produced to all shareholders.

To allow another LNS type sham, made possible by non disclosure in 2012, to be prolonged for whatever ends, when hard evidence of non disclosure and false statements exist, is in my opinion an error of judgement,

Only an indication that integrity restoring measures are part of discussions with other clubs based on what will eventually emerge happened from 2010 to present day and that Celtic wish a conclusion to the JPDT by say ST Renewal time, would let me answer your question positively. As matters stand there is nothing.

I don’t know what purpose continuing procrastination serves ,other than maintaining for as long as possible an illusion that what we are paying to watch is a fair game.

Thank you for your chat.highly informative as per usual.:-)

May I ask,has the resolution been pursued fully and answers by our board?

If shareholders are unhappy at how their reolution is being dealt with, have they pursued fully all rights under minority shareholders under company law?

I feel the resolution pursues the law today in relation to our company.it is a driving force for change in governance from the bowlin club mentality.but it’s taking time.

One of the things that could be contributing to non/reacting is what is going on at the money launderers, you only have to look at its existence to understand where the toxicity flows.

They died because they lied, and every atom of their story of grotesque self harm was laid out as a business plan.

Looking like a 4 jumpers, 2 pairs of socks type of game for us attendees tonight, brrrr.

Now if Brendan went 3 at the back tonight, that would make more sense than doing it in begbieville, however I think he will revert to the 4,just as long as he remembers Ajer aint a right back .O and play Ollie ( if hes picked) further forward and bring CalMac back one.

  12. Good morning, friends from a crisp, dry, clear skied and cold East Kilbride.

Today, is gonna be the day when we get to see The Champions play…..

Top of the league at Hogmanay is still in our own hands. But a wee favour from Neil Frances wouldn’t go amiss tonight.

  13. Schoolbhoy error already, Neil Francis of course.

The way Brendan was talking pre-match on Sunday it sounded to me as if KT was being given a wee rest/break due to recent hip related problems. So I thought that he might miss 2 or 3 games and maybe return after Christmas. If so, I’m fine with playing Izzy tonight so long as it’s a back 4…

  14. Well, this should be the tougher of our next 2 home fixtures in front of low, seasonal crowd.

The angst levels in our support are already way too high.

Only a couple of wins can reduce some of that fear.

I think we will get the 2 home wins but I still think we are overdue a setback at Ibrox.

  15. Jobo, was saying to my mate yesterday that the suggestion that KT had a hip-related problem was a real worry for me. That kind of physiological problem is often (usually?) associated with stress and when you think of how many games young KT has already played then that would make sense. Added to that the amount of kickings he gets, game-on-game, it’s no wonder he might have that kind of injury. Izzy isn’t the player he was, but is well able to play left back, in a back four, at Celtic Park. His attacking display against Killie was excellent, defensive show not so great. But we are at home tonight after all!!

    Give KT a rest.

  16. Because of historical, social reasons, I believe Celtic Supporters are much more anxious, much less confident than the supporters of other Clubs. I believe that this anxiety has a detrimental affect on performance. I wish supporters would look at the reality of Celtic when compared with every other Scottish Club then transfer the resulting confidence on to the players — who, I believe, manage quite well anyway but would do even better with more positive support.

Tonight Motherwell provide the opposition and will make it hard for Celtic with a park the bus type of performance. While over in Edinburgh Hibernian are so inconsistant they are unlikely to take any points of Rangers we have to try to ensure we dont fall further behind the league leaders. I think we have played so many games that we are mentaly tired but that is not an excuse as Rangers have also played a lot of games I hear Brendan saying we will be stronger after the transfer window but if we lose Boyata im not so sure, However, good luck to the bhoys tonight. H.H.

  21. Hot Smoked…..

Totally agree. I think we have traditionally been the underdog due to so many nefarious hunned-up activities thaq there is a reflection of anxiety in general within the support. Particularly at penalties that feeling just gets more intense.

The truth is that Brendan was very unhappy with how the Board and namely Peter Lawwell performed in the summer. It is a matter of public record.

In the time since and at the AGM Brendan was careful and clever with his words. He did not inflame the situation but carefully laid out his concerns and placed the ball in the Board’s court. There is no doubt the Board are under huge pressure to back the Manager in January.

I do not agree with Brendan’s comment that the Club has been ‘run immaculately’. I also do not agree with Ronny Deila’s comment that ‘he didn’t see what the problem is because Peter has always been successful’. Anyone who has followed Celtic for a period of time knows that is simply not true.

  23. Hopefully some first eleveners back tonight. Confident we will smelt the steelmen into oblivion!

It’s true many are anxious at the current siutation. To have regressed to such an extent is worrying. I would contend that benchmarking against other Scottish clubs is more part of the problem rather than a source of comfort.
