  1. Just listened to BBC Shortbread’s morning sports report. Jeezo, they’re hurting bad.

Traffic reported heavy towards Erskine Bridge.

Don’t know about the players, but I was drained after watching that pulsating 93mins.

Brendan has restored our credibility at CL level, no doubt about that.

We are back where we belong in the Europe top football competition, representing our country as Champions.

We may not have the riches of most of the clubs that find themselves in the competition, but we have other things far more precious.

  5. Dark , wet and windy in darkest Lanarkshire, however we put on a show. Our club punched to the weight of our glorious history.

The MSM , apart from Tom English, are ignoring the resurrection. They will be re doubling their efforts to find any trace of English football’s dirty “secret” to connect to our manager.

Well done players, staff and fans. ..great to be a Celt…

It wasn’t a different perspective between stadium and TV; I watched it back last night when I got home,

No fear whatsoever from our team last night and of course we struggled at times. This Man City are probably the form team in Europe at this time. £440M against £20M!

NB puts his foot on the ball and deliberately takes the sting out of the game at times – it’s needed. He was strong all night.

SB had a great game and kept going to the very end. Joint MoM with Moussa.

Look at this performance in perspective. There is a massive difference in spending power and (supposedly) ability but we held our own for very large periods in the game last night and are the only team not to be defeated by Man City this season. They scored 5 against their last 2 European opponents!

I don’t want to be critical of a good performance.

    Proud of my team tonight.

Biton showed a very nimble touch to pass to Tierney in the 3 goal build up.

His pass to Rogic who set up 2nd was also good.

But to put some perspective all 3 of their goals came straight through the middle so his protection was less than stellar.

The first goal came from a pass through central area after a clearance.

The first goal came from a cross from the right that neither Lustig or Toure cut out and the Man City player cut it back; the ball broke out of the box and a scuffed shot from Zabalata fell to Fernando. Nothing to do with Bitton!

When Moussa gave the short pass to Brown for Sterlings goal Bitton should have been the next line of protection but he was missing.

No he wasn’t; he was to the right of Brown marking Noilito. The ball was played to Streling who had 3 defenders around him plus the keeper. It was slack play from Dembele and great skill from Sterliong.

Likewise when Gordon saved on first effort for 3rd who was tracking Nolito?

No-one though Lustig was closest but static. Bitton was on the left side pressing Sterling. Again, fantastic play by Sterling, Silva and Aguero. Brown, Sviatchenko and Tierney were taken out by the quick 1-2.

Biton is showing signs of improvement but we still lose to many goals from central midfield area.

This should be the area i expect Brendan to address in the next 2 transfer windows

Don’t post very often but wanted to say how proud I was of our team last night, no one outside of the Celtic family gave us an earthly and what a fright we ended up giving Pep and his multi million pound squad.

Atmosphere was amazing, nowhere comes close when our singing is as loud and proud as it was last night.

Bring on BMG for the double header!

PS, watched full game again when I got home, BT Sports is on a different planet to Sky, so glad they are doing the CL now and long may that continue.

Work will be a joy today ☘

  10. So enjoyed last night…. understatement!

But the Nou Camp was only a fortnight ago.

So our European reputation is not yet restored….but….our pride is.

If BR can discover our Holy Grail of a successful system for playing away from home in Europe then hang onto your hats!!!!!

  11. Due to very unfortunate holiday planning I missed last night in Paradise and my Killie supporting mate used my ticket for his first ever Champions League game. Txtd me immed after game “Is it always like that? Absolutely incredible.”

Even in the noise in Mollies Playa Blanca (thanks CRC) we could hear the crowd!

Fantastic. Now desperate for the Borussia game.

    Hail Hail

  12. Not that we want to sell anyone but games like last night provide a platform for Dembele, Sinclair, Rogic, Forrest, Tierney.

Suddenly those players are worth north of £5m at least each. Turnover more than £80 million and make incremental improvements with topping and tailing the squad.

Dembele is raw but boy is he in the right place at the right time, lucky strong fit and quick.

All it took was a good manager.

    Enjoy Thursday

    VFR8000A8 – I never realised there was a fourth “i” in “infinitesimal”.

But somehow this morning I’m not that bothered.

  14. Thrilled by our performance last night; still can’t quite believe the way we played – that we would dare to play that much football in an open, attractive, free flowing style against one of Europe’s biggest spenders who have been playing at the top of their game. We have seen some stylish performances against second or third tier spenders in the CL in the past, but always against the biggest spenders we have had to play a more sterile game with the odd foray up the park to get the result.

Further evidence that it’s a different game on TV from in the stadium. I’m pleased to see that it has been noted here Brown received a short pass for their second goal. It was so obvious from where I was in the main stand – from the second the pass was executed – but not so on TV, and Roy Keane was not slow to put the boot into Brown on ITV highlights.

  15. Enjoy the day, the time for analysis of what went wrong is when it goes wrong.

If we lose the next two games it will be an awful place on here; breathe in the good stuff leave the nitpicking to the Hunnish hordes.

    There are plenty of them.

  17. It’s difficult to overestimate how important that point could prove to be.

    Fantastic performance, fantastic result.

  18. Still feels good the morning after.

Canny even get distracted by our resident squirrel watcher, Kev J, who, with his opinions, is attempting to ride more horses than Lester Piggott managed. As someone said, one bad result against out German opponents and he will revert back to the swap McGhee for Rodgers campaign. Tabloid through and through.

Can’t wait to discuss last night with anyone willing to confess to having Zombie tendencies. I am finding them harder and harder to detect these days. It’s like they’ve all gone on their annual holidays together.

Think I’ll leave the car and just float into work

  19. “They scored three and but didn’t make many more chances”Think I would settle for that in any champions league game.

  20. Brendan…..

“He said: “There are areas of the field where I know we need players, at this level of football, to keep pushing forward.

“But of the players we have and the club, I can’t ask anymore of them.”

BR knows where it’s at…..now is the time for all of us, board included, to support to the maximum.

  22. Morning all.

Marvellous performance and result last night, and another unforgettable CP experience.

The next two games against the Moenchengladbachers will be crucial. Can we get 4 points from them? I believe we can.

    All to play for.

    HH!!

  23. After two years with no CL games at Celtic Park, I’d say that was a pretty special evening. I hope all of you who were lucky enough to be there savoured every moment.

This morning I dispensed with the space hopper for the commute and instead floated in…on a Marty McFly hoverboard…

  24. I wrote this, sitting on the high stool in my local pub in Ireland, 10 minutes after full time.

Not bad after 7 pints of Guinness and no spellcheck on the phone. Anyway, it comes from the heart, still buzzin this morning.

    I feckn LOVE Celtic FC.

Their history, the way they survived sectarianism at high levels in Scotland, their support for the underprivileged, their Irish roots and Scottish heritage.

The fans who support Palestine, the Basques, the Kurds, the underdog.

The songs, the craic, the good naturedness, the love of life.

The swagger of the players, the heart they show.

The way your hair stands up when 60,000 fans sing the Irish national anthem in english, to remember their heritage.

They are far more than a football club.

    Decent result tonight.

A team from england valued at £700,000,000 comes from behind 3 times to force a draw against a team who, in monetary terms are probably valued at £25,000,000, but in terms of heart are…….Priceless.

We maintain our record of never been beaten by an english team in the European Champions League, at home.

I suspect it’ll be a bad move but let’s see.

  26. My friends in Celtic,

Put simply, that was one of the best Celtic experiences I have ever witnessed at Parkhead.

I think it is the only game I can remember where we could hardly hear the GB singing from the Jock Stein stands, such was the noise and intensity around us.

Don’t know what it came across like on TV, but it was possibly the loudest I have been at.

  27. Good morning CQN, another special night in Paradise!!

Celtic in the Champions League – anything is possible in that atmosphere and is often achieved.

Don’t know what it came across like on TV, but it was possibly the loudest I have been at.

    ————————————————————————————————————–

It was amazing. I had the volume cranked up and it felt (just a little) like I was there. My neighbours probably felt like they were there too – I don’t think they would have appreciated it as much as me :)

At one point the cameras panned to a shot of the fans in the standing section bouncing, except you couldn’t tell where the standing section started and where it stopped. The commentator just said something to the effect of “Look at that”.

    Incredible to watch. Very proud.

  29. For sheer noise, I don’t think anything has beaten the roar at Naka’s goal against Man U.

The moment the Hoops and Barca walked onto the pitch, and the whole stadium was adorned in “125” imagery, was ear-splitting too.

The best YNWA? Maybe against Valencia?

But for continuous, constant, high-level signing and chanting, last night was the best.

  30. Every time my gaze turned towards the jumping section I could only think of the wildest young cqn Reb Jobo!!

We desperately needed a break and the timing was not right. I couldn’t find a stream where we were an so relied on CQN throughout the game. In between checking the blog, I paced a dark, stormy Ballearic beach in a foolish attempt to calm the nerves. What a result and it could have been better! Well done, the Bhoys and thank you CQN,

  32. If, not when, a fully-fledged Pan-European League becomes a reality Celtic will be there. They have to be.

Broadcasters like BT will surely demand it.

There is nothing quite like a European night at CP anywhere on the continent. Just ask Paolo Maldini, Xavi, Messi, Zlatan and countless others.

    HH!!

  33. The morning after the night before, still a great feeling of contentment having done our club and its fans proud, one thing I dont like and its talk of Moussa bullying or being a bully, it is not in my eyes worthy of him or his performance, it is a negative description but maybe thats just me, emphasise his power pace skill no need for saying he is a bully.

This stuff about managers the Telegraph is exposing, I wonder who as yet have not been named how far this goes back have people who worked in Scotland been part of this , will the full list ever see the light of day.

  34. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Grateful thanks to PF AYR who declined the option of giving me a doing for jumping onto him when we scored our first.

Not a pretty sight, and fortunately his glass was on the bar,not in his hand.

    Enjoy yer walk,big fella!

Pleasure to meet Gerry Hart too. Sad to hear about the band’s gear getting nicked in Leipzig,I hope you get the show back on the road ASAP.

Huge HH to the rest, great night great game great Guinness!

  35. Morning

I woke up with cramp this morning. God these Champions League take it out of me

I think that last night’s game was a classic – best since Juve 4-3 at least as an actual spectacle. I thought though that BR made a mistake putting on Paddy for JF. The game was just , finally, drifting away from us and no doubt the winger was tiring but I’d have put Leigh on at that stage and kept Nir B on for the whole game. Small quibble and BR’s problem for BMG might be managing expectation which has soared. It is right to soar but a lot of work has to be done all the same. I have faith it will be done.

As so often at these big European nights the occasion is about the fans and in the early minutes I was minded of a quote by Alex Ferguson that teams can melt at Celtic Park and at times in the first half City looked to be thawing quickly. Their support was noisy before the game but as the teams took the field they too sagged. In the final minutes I really do think the support helped our team over the line.

Finally a more personal perhaps overly sentimental memory. As I walked behind the Jock Stein Stand a dad before the game a dad was walking beside me with his 6 or 7 year old daughter on his shoulders and they were both singing- each as excited as the other. I still thought we’d get thrashed and wondered how this wee lassie would feel at the end. And then I got into the ground and knew that she and the rest of us were going to be all right.

    Mon the Hoops.
