  1. Green man. Peter lawwell is not clueless but a very sharp suited man when it comes down to his pension plan

He knows exactly what he is doing

I knew the damage he was doing our club at the willo window. He admitted years later it was a mistake by him and he regretted it

So be under no Ilusions that he does not have the power to sanction funds release

We were in debt to about 5m then

Willo window cost our club about 30m and 2

    titles

Peter will never admit his mistakes again

Peter lawwell is the no 1 enemy of the Celtic team

  2. Green Man.

I certainly don’t accept second rate. But I know that in life, achieving anything first rate is a complicated, difficult, and often painful process.

Celtic is a very well run club. Can we be better? Of course. But I am dismayed by the entitled “I’ll pay my money I’ll slag the team” attitude that permeates the support these days. Especially when few of the people so loudly shouting have any real solutions beyond “sack Peter and spend more money”.

Calling the team “gutless” and the board “clueless” is just playground stuff. I’d be disappointed if my 6 yearsold achieved that level of analysis.

  3. I agree with you Italiabhoy, more like ff on here sometimes. Is deluded a contagious condition? Try not to stand too close to buns. Well done to the hoops who pulled on the jersey and beat St Johnstone, a recent bogey team no god given right to win uber. Well done bhoys. Stand up , you are the champions. Hail hail.

  4. Italiabhoy

I cannot for the life of me understand why people are so resistant to change.

And by the way….don’t think you are taking any higher moral ground, by saying that calling the team gutless and the board clueless is “playground stuff”

The GB love their team as I do….they have every right to complain.

Would you rather fans just shut up eh.

You can make as many excuses for PL and the PLC as you like, spin as much as you like.

It will not change the reality.

And things will change….no matter how resistant you are.

    HH

  5. TaurangaBhoy

Next you will be telling me…that I’m a bad supporter, and you are a good one.

    Spare me.

IMO…anybody that wants to shrug their shoulders at a Celtic failure….should go watch somebody else.

If you have no ambition….watch Dunfermline

    HH

  6. The Green Man

    ———

What is the change? And how are some fans resistance to it?

  7. Italiabhoy,

Our CEO has cost the club £50M of revenue over 12 months. He selected the Manager and the coaches. After Lenny he would never allow a Manager to bring an Alan Thomson, that is the level of control Lawwell exercises.

Next seasons CL failure will bring the total revenue miss to £80M.

Can you imagine what Celtic would be like with an additional £80M.

Into the bargain the person who has overseen this catastrophic failure is the highest compensated employee in Celtics history. In any other field of business a CEO withthis track record would have been sacked. However Celtic is not any other business answering to a board. It answers to an absentee landlord to whom Celtic is a dinner conversation in Dublins refined eateries.

The scale of failure considering the resources we have is off the radar scale. The fans are being cheated by Lawwell.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

  8. Green Man,

Over the last few days I have suggested ways we can change our strategy – seeking to recruit older players occasionally, limiting the alacrity with which we seek to sell players to the EPL. I’d previously suggested we abandon US pre-season tours and get back to basics.

Change is necessary – but incremental, considered change is almost always better than revolution. The trick is to work out what these changes are and how best to implement them. Not to blithely demand the head of a scapegoat director and authorise a splurge of money.

My criticism of the fans is the self-obsessed nature of many of the posts on here (and the comments I hear in the stadium). That defeat should be taken as a personal insult, rather than a naturally occurirng vagary of the game. That failure on the park is the result of a “suit” sneering at the fans whilst quaffing champagne behind the curtains of a private box.

This is a childish, selfish, and unenlightened way to analyse our situation, and it ignores not only the immense good work the board have done, but it serves up a tired old caricature of “us” and “them” which bears not resemblance to reality.

We must improve, yes. But we must all be smart in how that is achieved.

  9. Latchford.

You know for sure we are not going to qualify for the CL next year?

You got the lottery numbers too?

  10. Latch ford , painful as it is , Football players are on the whole mercenaries. They will pick the most lucrative game in town and no matter what we think it ain’t the SPFL . We don’t sell Virgil we lose him one year on and have an unhappy player in the dressing room. Now that would be incompetence at board level, and no coach wants a player who doesn’t want to be there. Can anyone who uses this argument to slaughter the team they follow tell me that they know Virgil and Wanyama wanted to play for the hoops, re- sign their contracts. You don’t need to like it but at least understand the reality. This fan entitlement crap is really pis sing me off. I don’t know if PL could have played a better game at his end of the park but I have yet to see a single fact on hear to convince me any armchair warrior has an answer.

  11. Meant to say pl can release funds

But of course he won’t as that could affect his bonus

  12. THE HUDDLE

We need to change a failing PLC and their horrific strategy.

We are underachieving on the park…..while the PLC are rewarded for failure.

That’s no way to run a football club.

I don’t have all the answers…..but I can see with my own eyes, the diminishing stature of the team.

Its one thing to have a memorable history and stadium….but quite another to have a substandard Celtic team.

Whoever thinks that replacing VVD with a loan signing is a progressive move, is either taking the P, or is quite obviously an idiot in football terms.

This is what we are reduced to…replacing our best players with loan signings.

That is the strategy…of people who are indeed clueless.

  13. theglasgowcelticway on

Did I like the GB’s banner yesterday? No.

Do they have the right to protest in such a way? Yes.

Is RD the right man for the job??

Is there an alternative way of running Celtic which would improve the team?

When the Newco team appear in the premier league next season will we have allowed them to arrive on a par with us because of poor decisions and investments??

All valid questions and worth debate.

  14. The Green Man Celtic are the champions of Scotland, went through two qualifying rounds against other countries champions, lost one game failed at the last hurdle. Now in the EL with many other decent football teams. Still in all if the Scottish Cups this year. Top of the league and staying there.

I think you might want to follow Man City if you want a team that is winning every game , for now, you can switch later if they lose a game.

I wanted the same as you. Sacking everyone is not going to get us any closer. We have enough enemies outside of the club. Get back up , rebuild, try again.

  15. The Green Man

    ————-

That’s not really an answer though, you response is do things better. Of course we all want things done better but how do you do that.

How much more money would you spend? Where would you get that money? Who would you sign and from what league? Who’s going to come to Scotland and how much are you going to have to pay him to come and play here?

  16. Come on now….is there anybody here who will defend selling our best player, and replacing him with a loan signing?

Come on…..lets hear you spin that one.

    HH

  17. I just did mate. Tell me the flaw in my argument

We don’t sell Virgil we lose him one year on and have an unhappy player in the dressing room. Now that would be incompetence at board level, and no coach wants a player who doesn’t want to be there. What do you know about our players ambitions and money expectations that I don’t. Pissing in the wind.

  18. THE HUDDLE

you are just repeating the mantra of the…we cant do this, we cant do that brigade.

look at how much money has been wasted on crap players for example….I could go on all day, but I wont.

    PL should resign.

    That’s my opinion

You do know that VVD doesn’t want to play for Celtic? Would you rather not selling and he leave for free next season, or sell now?

  20. Should be replace with a new signing not a loan but again I have no idea what players Celtic are looking at , maybe Hugh Keevins does.

  21. Auldheid

“I’d like to see the figures published along with the risks in order to be sure the support at large know what they are.

Remember that what we spend could turn on the result of one qualifying match against champions of each country we face.

What I am absolutely against is us becoming dependent on CL money to support our spend, not just because of the risks to us but because of the corrupting effect on our game.

When survival depends on winning titles a club might be tempted to do anything to ensure winning and the national association might be prepared to do anything to keep such a club winning titles.

A lot more than RFC going bust happened when they embarked on a CL money dependency policy, Trust in football governance went out the window and it has not returned.

I’m all for prudent spending but find it difficult to draw the line between what constitutes that and becoming CL dependent to sustain it.

One of the risks I have not mentioned is that as sure as guns are iron, if TRFC start to challenge us for the title they will spend to win it knowing that the national association will do nothing to stop them whereas I’m not sure Celtic will enjoy the same latitude.”

The figures should be published I agree, but using some basic information, it’s not difficult to work out approximate numbers….

Annual revenue i.e Season tickets, merchandise, sponsors, match day income etc.

Must be in excess of £20-25 million per annum

Annual expenditure i.e wage bill, utilities etc.

We know this figure to be around £30 mil per annum

This leaves us short of 5-10 million year on year

Barring catastrophes, we will make this up with qualifying for the Europa League & of course we have playing assets to sell incase of emergency.

We all know the financial constraints & understand the need for fiscal prudence but it’s not what we are spending on the football team that is angering fans. It’s how we are spending it, who might be responsible & most importantly when we spend it

Any successful business if run properly will have assets & these are offset against profits & losses. Currently as a club we are fortunate to have two or three valuable playing assets available to sell if needs must.

    In simple terms

Annually we make a loss of between £5-10 million but this debt is wiped out with Europa League qualification.

The issue I have is with the current strategy of bringing in loans and kids, does not guarantee us another valuable future asset to help offset any annual shortfall. Not having the foresight to use the value of our current & past assets to aid us in qualification to me has been s huge planning failure from our board.

For example this season we have Virgil, his value could have easily wiped out any failure to qualify for European completion. A smart ambitious club would have invested a portion of this future transfer fee & front loaded our chances of qualification.

How many opportunities will we have to front load our challenge to make the champions league in the future?

The more times we fail to dine at the top table of European football the more likely we will struggle to make it there in seasons to come. All we are asking is for some foresight, planning & ambition. No over stretching of finances just clever business, sadly for this season it’s too late. I only hope next year we have a similar asset in the squad to speculate with.

  22. TUARANGABHOY

    Sorry…but that’s just BS.

If you want to see loan signings, and pay through the nose for the pleasure, watch sevco.

Mantra? And again all you can spout is sign better players, don’t waste money. We’ve got all day why not enlighten us on how we should run the club better.

  24. THE HUDDLE

VVD wants to leave…that’s fine, no bother.

So…go out and use some of the money and buy a good replacement.

Or do you just want to do it on the cheap…with a loan signing.

    HH

  25. Italiabhoy

I don’t think we are a particularly well run club. I’m not calling for hun like spending we can’t afford. The buy quantity over quality policy has to change sometime. Project manager and project players will often be inconsistent risking CL qualifications.

  26. We signed VVD, we signed all those players from Dundee Hibs, we spend money. Sure you might not like where we spend the money (i dont) but we are spending money.

Loan signings are great in my mind as long as you have a buy option at the end.

How much do you think we should spend each summer to guarantee CL qualification?

  28. The Green Man on 30th August 2015 8:46 am

ER….we don’t have an option to buy…..that’s the problem.

    ————-

And that’s a mistake, I was saying I prefer loans with a right to buy

  29. The Green Man on 30th August 2015 8:32 am

Tyler Blackett will not be the only Defender to arrive before deadline. From what I hear there will be another, a CH. if this happens Blackett will most probably compete with Izzy.

From what I hear as well there will be a Striker as well.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  30. As I said, a few have been dying for the Malmo defeat on hear, so that they can put the broke record back on AGAIN, same goes for the section of the crowd who stand in the North East corner at Celtic Park, gives them a chance to let the 14 15 16 year olds a chance to hold up a banner airing there same old agenda, what’s next sending those kids out again to be kettled? Because it won’t be the leaders, the rest of Celtic Park told them in no uncertain manner and the banner was down as quick as it went up.

All I would, and will, say on this matter is, ignore them, do not give them oxygen, give them enough rope they will do the rest, highlighting them suits there agenda, .

Great result yesterday, that last fifteen minute switch off has to be looked at, and please please get that PA system fixed at Celtic Park, it’s not working properly since the commonwealth games ffs.

  31. The Green Man on 30th August 2015 7:50 am

“Elite supporters eh….dodgy handshakes and secrets….well, you can fe*k off with your secrets, go watch the huns, they love handshakes and secrets.”

    ——————————————————————————–

Its all about opinions, and although I disagree with many of yours, IMO you have got it absolutely spot on with your statement above.

The last thing we need is a so called secret clique of yet more businessmen.

What we do need is players who play to their full potential in pressure games.

Talk about some Celtic supporting businessmen being elite does not sit well with me. From the most under-priviliged to the so called ” elite”, we all are equally Celtic supporters.

    HH.

  32. As far as I knew, Blackett has an option to buy… therefore calling him a loan player isn’t strictly accurate.

  33. Anyway…im offski, wasting my time here.

    Supposed Celtic fans….applauding failure.

That’s not the Celtic I love.

You want loan signings….fill yer boots

  34. Possible that the Increase in signing Scottish signings is an attempt to recruit players more likely to re-sign contracts and build a team core. Not your marquee players but for those who talk about our history, that one decade we dominated football, we had players who were all local. Build a local core and find players like Henrik and Lubo and Stan who get what it means. Stand up for the Champions.

  35. Green Man,

And now people who disagree with you are “supposed” Celtic fans.

Your agenda becomes less attractive with each post.

  36. Kip time for me too. The Green Man keep the faith. Many good times ahead, just not this year unless they can do miracles in the EL.
